  1. No, the point of this whole "scheme" is to profit the people who will provide the tablets, infrastructure, wi-fi access, upgrades and before this is all said and done they will decide that while this scheme failed we owe it to the students to do it right the next time. and off we will go with another round of spending for no real return for the students only profits and payoffs for those involved in the procurement process.

  2. I would question the source of the E-mail. As has been posted the large factories that produce food for export are all well versed in quality control. I would suspect that the source may have been pushing for Australian Supervision of the factories or just promoting Australian produced products.

  3. The US placing Nalinee on a list of people who US companies or citizens can not do business with has no effect on the Thai constitution. It does call in to question the logic used to place her in a position where she is to have trade discussions with the country who put her on the blacklist. These kind of things should make any normal government think twice before putting them selves in such an embarrassing position.

  4. The better to remind the monk of the suffering of others, and to take the monks mind off of caring for himself. This could become a form of self indulgence which would be wrong. It gives the monk more time for meditation which is the purpose he is in the Monk hood for in the first place. In allowing more bathing when in border countries I can only imagine that the effort of traveling in less advanced areas would subject the monk to other bites, cuts and stings which if not cleaned would endanger the monks life or health. Most of the precepts have very logical reasons behind them but it takes some mental gymnastics to get your mind where theirs was.

  5. The AC unit is sized incorrectly, it is too large for the area it is cooling and is not removing enough moisture. The unit shuts down too early because it has reached the temp you are trying to achieve but did not dehumidify the room. if the unit is sized correctly check for proper drainage from the condensing unit. Look for the clear or white plastic drain line from the unit where the mold is.

  6. I don't see the impeachment having a chance of being sustained. Never heard of a passport being issued to a convicted criminal who is on the run from a prison term at home. But, the passport was revoked using a narrow reading of the law and reissued using a different narrow interpretation.

I see the PM as a puppet of her brother with Chalerm as the guide or control. This government already has it's hands full with the flooding and the normal running of the country. But they continue to ignore that while they get on with returning Khun Thaksin to Thailand.

The Democrats also need to do what they were elected to do and work for the betterment of the Thailand, spending all of their time on Thaksin is as much a waste of time as it is for the Puea Thai.

When Thaksin returns the Airport Blockade and the Rajprasong protests are likely to be mild in comparison, I just hope the government is ready.

  7. Thailand and the Buddhist world has lost a very well respected Monk. We should all take some time and think of what we have done or can do to help people as Luang Pha Maha Bua did in his life. And to reject the pursuit of wealth and money for it's own sake. My thoughts and prayers are with him today.

  8. Seems like the Reds are the logical group to look at, either because of the outcome of the election or as a way of reminding the population that they are still alive and able to cause disruption.

It could also be done to have the Gov't reinforce their desire to keep the state of emergency in place which the foreign press has been showing as the "Elite" repression of the "poor" reds.

This does not mean that the Leadership either endorsed or even knew about it. The Reds seem like quite a fractured group and any one of a number of people could have set this up.

If it was the southern insurgents you would hear about the reason in short order as they would be interested in spreading their attacks to the greater population to bring more attention to their "cause".

I agree with a number of previous posters that the placement of the device in a trash bin was more likely a convenient hiding place to get the device into a group of people where it could do the most damage.

Most bombings of this sort are not to destroy property, that takes a larger device and is more difficult to design/build /place but a shrapnel bomb creates a lot of personal damage and creates fear, worry and distrust .

Which is just what a politically minded bomber is looking for.

Like everyone else I hope that the injured recover quickly and that the bomber is found and brought to justice.

I am concerned that the government, police force and military that the Thai have been supporting/allowing in the past are not as interested in the Thai people as they are in themselves. And until the Thai decide that they are not willing

to accept things as they are, and are willing to hold local Politicians/Police and Military commanders accountable for their actions. Then we will see the Thai people get the government they deserve. I am under no illusions that it will happen soon

but a mindset has to change before progress can occur.

  9. Most of what you have posted is either a true statement, your opinion or the general consensus of farang opinion.  But as others have pointed out it's also a matter of viewpoint.  <div><br></div><div>Comparing a National Airline like THAI with a public company like EVA will normally produce the head shaking price comparisons you have quoted.  And as long as THAI can pay for fuel either with ticket revenue or subsidies they will continue to fly.  </div><div><br></div><div>As for the lack of value due to the Thai Baht's strength vs the Euro, Pound & Dollar I think the westerners have themselves to blame for that.  </div><div>And we have more than enough highly positioned families and politicians who use their power to keep themselves in power and their families out of the spotlight.  I have always said we have just as much backdoor dealing in the west as they have in the east, we are just better at hiding it from plain sight or feel that we need to.  </div><div><br></div><div>As far as the low life peddling porno to farang families on holiday, while I am disgusted that  it happens you will never see a merchant selling something that no one will buy.  So ask yourself who is buying the stuff?  I think is is more of your value price tourists than other Thai's so that is who the street merchants are targeting.  </div><div><br></div><div>The two tier price system has been in Thailand for longer than the 30+ years i have been coming to Thailand.  I don't think it's going to end soon and you might ask yourself, as a visitor making 90 pound / 110 Euro or 130 Dollars a day can you afford to pay more than an average Thai making 500Baht a day.  This country may seem to be full of Mercedes with drivers but that is only here in Bangkok, for the vast majority of Thai"s it's a 5Baht non air bus ride.  The national parks and other venues are for them.  We are not hurt very much by the pricing scheme, I know it bothers people, it bothers me as well but just stop to think about it and your heart will cool down.</div><div><br></div><div>The Thai are very pragmatic, they can see no gain from trying to swim upstream when they can float across and walk just a little farther to get where they want to go.  When they like us decide that they want real honest government in their moo ban with no favoritism EVEN WHEN IT BENEFITS THEMSELVES, then here in Thailand like in your home country we will see government improve and be more responsive to the real needs of the people and not special interests.</div><div><br></div>

  10. Why go to all the trouble and potential trouble of having your phone unlocked either in Thailand or using some software that may give you headaches later? I have been given unlock codes by AT&T & Cingular for 4 different phones which have been used in Thailand, HTC Tilt/Tytn and others with and without 3G or Edge internet connections. Just call customer service verify your account and explain you are leaving the country and need the phone unlocked. The last time there was no wait I recieved the code over the phone, before that it was a 1 hour to 2 day wait for E-mail with codes & instructions. And besides all that it's free.

  11. Try looking up Bird-x on the internet and find out if their bird spikes are available in yur area. Glue them down in the roosting areas and in a day or so the birds will be gone. You might need to place them in any other shady areas where the birds might relocate to but they are very efficent at getting the pigeons to find another place to sit.
