  1. Yes, and as for financial exploitation in the sex industry, I think it is high time all those bar girls are packed off back to Isaan to work in the rice fields instead of ruthlessly exploiting all those poor ignorant sex tourists that come for their two weeks holiday in Thailand.

There are so many cases of farangs being financially ruined by getting entangled with these devious creatures, I think they should all be ashamed of themselves (bar girls that is)!

  2. You're all a bunch of hopeless scaremongerers.

Why not just go back to to your home country once every 15 months and get a 1 year non-O visa. Easy as piss, just what is the big deal?

All Asian consulates have a poor reputation for handing out visas freely, once you are back in your home country though you are calling the shots.

Surely you've all got family to see back home anyway.

  3. In Penang if you want to avoid the hassle of going to the consulate yourself there are a number of expediters on Chulia Street who for 50RM (500 Baht) will handle all the paper work and take and collect your passport for you.

They won't increase the chance of getting the visa you want but they do mean you can avoid having to deal with Thai officialdom so in that respect the service is cheap at the price.

  4. blow some of that wad on setting up a thai corporation, then go back and get a non immigrant B visa not an O

Appreciate the advice Huski but wouldn't setting up a Thai corporation involve me in 10 different types of bureaucracy and hassles such as tax returns etc???

Setting up a company (when I am not even working) sounds like an awful lot of aggravation unless you know different.

  5. No Markt, but checked out the Prangin mall and there were some real babes in there. I dunno that cute Chinese look does it for me even more than Thais!!! Just the thought of all those cute Malaysian 'good' girls wandering around :D . Maybe it was worth going after all :D

Other good feature of Prangin is it has more software shops than you can shake a stick at. All for 50 Baht a CD. Might be a good idea to check the s/w works before you leave the country though :o

  6. Just thought I'd add my own personal experience to add to the publicly available pool of knowledge.

Had read one or two posts on here that suggested most anybody could get an Non-Immig 'O' visa from Penang if they showed up with a smile and a bank book showing a wad of money in the account.

This is not the case. I am a single, 30 something British citizen with independent means who does not want to work for a year or two. I showed them a healthy bank book, a rental agreement in Thailand, proof that I had registered my address with immigration, and a return ticket out the country. My application was declined and I was given 6 months of tourist visas instead. They initmated if I had been a bit older they might have considered it, but for younger people looking for an extended stay in Thailand do not bother going all the way to Penang just to get a couple of tourist visas.

There are plenty of other places you can go that are easier to get to (from Phuket anyway).

  7. Hi All,

Am British citizen currently in Thailand on 2 Tourist visas good for a total of 6 months with extensions.

I would ideally like a 1 year visa as I guess it works out a bit cheaper than tourist visas and generally less hassle. Trouble is I am not working as such and am only staying here on an extended holiday so do not really have any documentation to back up the B-visa application.

Are there any visa friendly Asian offices people would recommend where I might be able to get a B-Visa? I am quite happy to travel to get one as I guess getting one in Kingdom is a bit dodgy these days.

Thanks for any advice, first hand experiences.

    Cheers,

    JJ

  8. I was looking for a reasonably priced central BKK hotel that has a reliable phone connection (and jack plug) so that I can dial out from my room to the Internet.

I could use mobile GPRS but at 100Bht/Mb pay as you go it is just too expensive.

Hope someone can help with first hand experience of using their laptop for Internet use from a hotel.
