Do you ever feel like a prisoner in Thailand?
oxo1947 replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I live in a city , that is not that affect so much by Russian tourist - I know they can cause some problems, but then so can the Larger Louts from the UK etc. What I find amazing is some the comments about them being here because they wont fight in the war---- Good , they should get a pat on the back for refusing to fight in an Unjust war. In the 60s in London we had a heap of young Americans--not wanting to fight in what they said was an unjust war--Vietnam-- but we didn't have as many as Sweden Canada, France etc. So many fled that country--ones who didn't were either jailed or had other punishments dealt out to them, -

If your staying at a hotel --then you must show your passport at check in--they photo copy and the inform I.O at the end of the day list of guests. If your renting a condo etc then why wouldn't your passport be there if you are genuine. Yes the area around Arab town Soi 3 -5 will be policed more often-- and if you have a black face--rightly or wrongly you will be stopped more often But these sort of fear posts --really grasp at straws --I mean if they put you in Prison, then when are they ever going to see your passport which is at your home Most embassy's warn you about Passport thefts, carrying passports --- -

So ChaiyaTH you are saying if you walk out of your hotel with out your passport (which I would advise everyone to do when shopping) and you get stopped for a check---you will end up in the IDC prison ?? Are you related to Bob or something.................... -

mokwit--do you know of any other person that is arrested and locked up in IDC , when their Passport is just sitting at home/Hotel/... maybe your reading to many of Bob's fear posts. Yes its always good to have your Passport on your phone, or at least back up with photo copy, in case its lost. -

It's difficult to understand with your posts why you are living in Thailand (if indeed you are) . What would be the the normal inspection for 95% of the people here-- "May I see your Passport"---OK you have a current Visa thank you" Business owners may be a little more complicated---thats to be expected. I wonder what your next Fear post will be about..................... -
Thai-ed up: British man’s terrifying prison ordeal in Thailand
oxo1947 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Yer Same for me Andrew ---I'm a plastic Oz 20+ years there--great place. I had some contact with a few embassy's as I was Prison visiting for some years--The Tourist Police who handle a lot of stuff with embassy's used to say that of all the western embassy's Scandies were the best--Americans and most of what we use to called the western Europe OK, but sometimes they would wait for weeks to get an answer from the UK to simple question like-- can you contact & inform prisoners family so they can send money (you can buy better food etc) -
Grace Grace is back---Season 4 --just 4 episodes all out-- This is the only Trailer out at the moment---AI voice etc Terrible...

The IDC detention center--is a nightmare, much worse then the BKK Hilton. But you are only there until deportation-- no one is given a set sentence to the IDC center. Your embassy is advised & If its the UK one (hard luck) they will then try to access family members to pay for your fare, e & are reluctant for the embassy to pay for it if it isn't forthcoming from another source. But it does seem to be a long time for him to be in there waiting for deportation.
