Trying to attach the sound file directly. Not sure if MP3 files are allowed on this forum.

Just rented a bungalow in Thap Lan national park.
When we got back from our trek tonight, we heard a very loud sound.
At first we though it was a fire alarm of some sort.
On closer inspection it seemed to come from a tall tree nearby.
I can't stress enough how it was much louder than anything we'd heard coming from insects before.
Here's a recording I made.

Would anyone be able to give us any indication as to what it might be?

What's that bar in Maya? I'm intrigued.

Am at Club on niman 7 now. Place is nice, good food and crowd. Parking super convenient and I don't mind THB70 for an unscratched car. The music though ... gonna fall asleep any second now. Good suggestion though.

Thanks LivinLOS, that was constructive and interesting. We indeed have had enough of Zoe and Spicy and looking for something less backpackery.

It's not that we don't like fighting through a horde of 20 year olds in tank tops to get a drink but ... ok it kind of is.
Any place that has more of a 30 year old vibe, decent music and (and I know that's asking a lot), a dance floor?
Location not a problem as we have a car. (please don't say "Bangkok" )

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll try one of those.

Hi guys,
Took my rental car to Pai. Exterior got pretty dirty due to construction on the road. I'm sure if I give it back like this they'll charge me much more than if I bring it to someone to clean it. Where can I do that?

Thanks for the helpful tip.

There are no shops running pick-up as you describe from Bangkok. It's too far.
Generally speaking, Mermaids is the biggest with shops in both BKK and Patts, and they have a good reputation.
Thanks Joe. That would explain why I couldn't find anything on the web.
Sad, I would have liked to mix in a day of diving in my BKK work trips.

Hi guys,
Anyone can recommend a shop doing daily day trips out of Bangkok, preferably with a hotel pickup?
I suppose destination would be Pattaya in most cases but I'm open to anywhere as long as I'm diving.
The only I could find by a quick search shows transfer to Pattaya at 1700BHT one way - quite the ripoff given that this is more expensive than a regular taxi, while the shop would be moving all customers in a single minivan.
Honestly I don't want the trouble of having to checkout from my BKK hotel, hauling everything to Pattaya, and then doing the same in reverse, for just 1 day of diving.

Thanks Pavan but I'm looking for a Bangkok based team. Your website only mentions India.

Hi all.
I'm looking to outsource a longterm software project (Microsoft technologies) to a company in Bangkok.
Any recommendation on a serious company for this?

Thanks for the indications. I'll poke my head in next week.

Hi guys.
I'd like to find tanned leather sheets in Chiang Mai for arts and crafts projects (such as belts, knife sheathes... ). Any idea where such a thing could be had on the cheap ?

Thanks klons.
That looks better indeed.

Hi All,
I've been viewing กบนอกกะลา on youtube to improve my thai listening skills and understanding of thai culture.
But the low quality on most videos makes it a bit painful.
Has anyone notice if any big chain DVD shops carry those documentaries as dvd boxsets? I would like to pick one up next trip.
Thanks

4G or LTE is reserved for post pay customers only.
Sadly I believe that's true for now.
There seems to be a "Manchester United Sim" that's prepaid and has 4G access, but it's pay by volume (1 THB / Mb ?!) and seems really inefficient.

The True shop at BKK is vey convenient for getting a mobile line as soon as you touch down.
But I've never seen them display promotions that include 4g, only 3g.
Has anyone succesfully bought prepaid 4g from one of the airport shops?
What bug makes this very loud sound?

It did sound similar to cicada, but the ones we have in Europe are nowhere near that noise level.
