  1. "In response to claims the Yuan Class S26T would not be useful because it can only dive in shallow water and are easy targets for enemies, the Navy argued that the Gulf of Thailand is about 50 metres deep and some operations need to be done near the shore. Planes cannot see submarines which dive down 20 metres, it said."

I guess the Admiral has never heard of sonar buoys.

  2. "But this time has been different. Lake, Carmen's biological father, had already met the surrogate prior to going to the hospital to pick her up, but Santos had not. The couple believes that the surrogate, who can only communicate with them through a translator, refuses to sign the papers because they are gay.

"We got a message from our surrogate mother's translator saying that she wanted to keep Carmen," Lake said. "The initial message did not say anything about why.""

Why? It would not have anything to do with more money not yet being passed to 'Mum"

  3. There is one foolproof way to test his claims. Give him the option of standing in front of a firing squad wearing one of his amulets. If he is unhurt, he goes free. If not, Som Nam Na. The only problem would be finding enough police / soldiers who can shoot straight.

Given that the ASEAN community is all about co-operation perhaps the Thai's can ask the Indonesians to send over one of their squads from Nusakambangan.

  4. I hope this is the right place to post this topic. If not, mods please redirect.

I was asked an odd Q this afternoon. A couple living here in Thailand, both European although not from the same country are about to have a child born here. They want to know can the child obtain Thai citizenship/passport as this is what they want. I have seen plenty of examples where one parent is Thai and the other a foreigner but this is the first time I have seen this.

Can anyone answer this please. A authoritative source would be good so the couple can check for themselves.

    TIA

  5. I clicked on this article only because of the nice shot of an A330. As for the numbers... same-same drivel from TAT... *yawn* coffee1.gif

Actually the figures in the OP are from AoT not TAT. Not that that matters much because within 24 hours TAT will issue a press release trumpeting the huge increase in tourists using the same data. Remember TAT's mission goal is to issue as many press releases as possible regardless of the substance or accuracy.

Yet where are all these tourists? Previous posters here have said that the tourists are not in Pattaya or Samui. I don't think they are here in BKK either. I was in MBK and Central World this afternoon and both places were quiet. In MBK there were a few arabic speaking people and some scandahooligans but that was about it. Central World was virtually empty although I did notice from the BTS on the way into Siam that there were approx 12 tourist busses leaving Paragon, maybe Chinese on tour packages?

  6. I have been unable to do my 90 day report online for the last two times. I have to use Nonthaburi Immigration. The first time back in April I think the system was still being fine tuned. I asked the Officer and he said no can do. This time I just could not get a confirmation receipt online even after trying for several days. So off to Nonthaburi again this morning and it's pain in the rear end to get to that place!

There has also been a change in the process. In times past the IO just did the quick check on his computer, filled out the bottom of the TM47 and handed it stapled in your Passport back to you. 5 minutes tops. Today the process is extended in that a Supervisor checks the paperwork before the IO gets to give it back.

Has anyone living in Nonthaburi been able to successfully do a online report?

  7. OP, just have fun but get yourself a little education as well just incase marriage gets mentioned. Have you ever heard of Sin Soht? If not head over to stickmanbangkok and read "The Case against Sin Sohtand other reasons not to give Thai women money" This article should be essential reading for anybody contemplating marriage to a thai particularly so if she is a bargirl.

  8. The Thai attitude of "I am entitled to make a living regardless of the law" rears it's ugly head again. A lot of street, pseudo black taxi drivers and beach vendors (jet skies, beach chairs, food outlets) think the same. Walk down soi 11 and see the abuse of law, albeit with suitable payment to the 'relevant' paymasters. Money is God here, forget about Buddha's teachings it has no meaning in Thailand.

  9. I knew an oyster farmer in Tasmania who was suffering constant theft of mature stock. He decided to camp out on the hill overlooking his farm with a friend. His friend was a high powered rifle and he didn't hesitate to fire a few warning rounds in the direction of the thieves when they came at night. The police paid him a visit the next day and he denied any knowledge. The police never charged him with anything but the word soon got around and the theft stopped.

  10. If your Sat dish is receiving ThaiCom 5, ThaiCom KU, and China Sat 6a, then you're likely operating DiSEqC switches and your DVB-S2 Set Top Box setup menu needs to be set accordingly ...ThaiCom 5/6 C-band is on DiSEqC LNB x, ThaiCom 5/6 Ku in on DiSEqC LNB y, ChinaSat 6a on DiSEqC LNB z, etc.

I think the GMMz boxes have a horrible user interface for changing which Satellite it's looking at via DiSEqC. Much prefer the IPM DVB-S2 box, but then it doesn't get the GMMz exclusive/encrypted program feeds.

    Link: Lyngsat ThaiCom 5/6 C/Ku at 78.5°E Lyngsat ChinaSat 6a C at 125.0°E

I managed to change the language to english (trial n error). I found a setting page which lists the DISCEqC for each satellite yet there appears no way of changing it.

    Satellite C_Thaicom

    LNB Freq 5750

    Transponder (13/117)4160 V 30000

    DiSEqC1.0 Port 1

    DiSEqC1.1 1 Cascade M3: Port 4

    22K On

    Polarity Auto

    Signal Intensity 45%

    Signal Strength 10%

The values can be changed e.g., Freq, Ports etc yet no changes results in an increase in Signal Intensity or Signal Strength

    Hell I am frustrated!!!

  11. Thanks for the reply.

Maybe I have not made myself clear. The net and IPTV are now True (optic fibre, 30mb and IPTV) which only feed the wireless router and the downstairs TV. We have three satellites installed all which used to work fine with 2 x Openbox S10 HD PVR. These set top boxes are really cheap chinese crap, one failed about 6 months in and the other will now only pick up 2 stations each from ThaiCom 5 and ChinaSat 6a. I was told by the salesman in Tesco that the GMMz box should plug straight in and work out of the box with the satellites facing as they are. All I am trying to do is get TV upstairs via the satellites.

Are you saying that I need a satellite guy to come in and install the GMMz box or should I just return the box and get IPM DVB S2 box? Where from? I am really out of my depth here, obviously.

  12. Since posting the above I found a page which, in english, tells me how to 'ota recover all.abs' whatever that is. I executed the software apparently successfully however I still get 'no signal' on all stations.

  13. I hope someone can help me here. We just changed our ISP from TOT to True and have IPTV with them on one box downstairs. I just purchased a GMMZ HD Lite box for upstairs. We have 3 satellites (Thaicom 5, China Sat 6a and Thai KU band). The Openbox we had gave up the ghost hence the new GMMZ box. No instructions came with the new box. I just connected all the cables (HDMI, power and satellite in). All I get on every station is 'no signal'. Is there some setup routine I have to go through? I can find nothing on the net, at least not in english.

When the True technican was here the other day he checked the satellites reception because the Openbox was only receiving 2 stations. He showed me on his monitor that all the stations were working, said need new box.

I honestly thought it was plug n play.

  14. "Landlords of venues near schools will also be accountable if they lease the site to outlets selling booze, he added. For a long-term solution, the police and the Public Health, Finance and Education ministries would determine the appropriate legal radius."

Sounds like double speak for we have yet to determine the appropriate 'license fee' that must be paid daily.
