  1. The truth is nothing will change. Musical deckchairs in the case of TG. What Prayut really needs to do if he is serious about turning these state enterprises around is hire foreign consultants/CEO's who are experts in the field and have no regrets about significant restructuring and that includes retrenching large numbers especially in the 'executive'. The Thai mentality will never allow it.

    Edit: my recalcitrant keyboard

  2. Why not just place money into savings account then AFTER your extension moved into fixed term account. Can also do what you suggest but we are talking about 3 months interest.

Thank you for the reply. I have read in previous posts that other people have successfully renewed their retirement extensions many times using the same term deposit. I don't need the hassle of transferring money between fixed term and savings accounts.

  3. Hi All,

My retirement extension is up for renewal late next February so I am thinking of relocating the 800k to Thailand. I have read a lot of the previous posted topics on the subject. I read that:

    1. If the money is in a fixed term deposit, it must be able to be withdrawn immediately (preferably with no penalty)

    2. The bank will withhold 15% of the interest on maturity which I can claim back from the tax department.

    3. If I provide the bank with a tax number, which I have/had? when I was working here (last tax return 4 years ago) the bank will not withhold any interest.

I live in the Nonthaburi Immigration district and they do not (yet?) accept 90 day reporting online so who knows if a fixed term deposit will work.

    My questions are:

    1. Has anyone successfully renewed their retirement extension at Nonthaburi Immigration using a fixed term deposit account?

    2. I yes what type of fixed term account?

    3. Given that my last tax return was four years ago is my tax number still 'active'?

Any other information on the subject of the current acceptability of term deposits gratefully accepted, particularly which bank is easiest to deal with both in terms of opening an account (currently with Kasikorn) and getting the necessary paperwork when applying for the extension. Naturally interest rate is one reason why I am asking these questions.

    TIA

  4. As per my previous post I successfully lodged an online 90 day report and received a TRN. My address is in Nonthaburi. Every time I checked the status the reply was pending. So I was forced to go to Nonthaburi Immigration yesterday to physically lodge the paperwork. I showed the IO the TRN on my iPad and asked what was happening. He just said 'does not work'. I feel for anyone who lives in Nonthaburi and has to go to Immigration. The office is in the middle of nowhere and severely understaffed. There must have been easily a hundred people waiting. I was lucky as the 90 day report line at least moved, albeit slowly. It took me an hour to file the paperwork and I was only with the IO for maybe two minutes. Nonthaburi requires TM47 and signed copies of your Passport, Non-O, entry stamp in Passport and entry card. This is different to other Immigration offices. I hope this helps others who have a Nonthaburi address. There is a place where you can get photocopies of the necessary paperwork on site.

  5. Tip #1. Be prepared for the unexpected at the Singapore Embassy. They make up their own rules as they please. It is not unusual for them to vet applications before you can lodge them. A thai woman regularly checks applications while you are waiting in line. She is quite aggressive. She will tell you what extra documentation the Embassy wants even though you think you have it right. Make an allowance for an extra day to lodge your application to get what she demands, however trivial it seems. Speaking from experience here. I have seen many people thrown out of the Embassy before they can lodge an application due to this bitch.

  6. Just adding to the mix. Arrived 28 July 2015. First report due soon, so decided to give the online a shot.

No Mac browser worked, as referenced many times here in this thread.

I have Win10 installed as a dual boot, and IE10 loaded the page beautifully. All fields were smooth and all entries worked without delay or problems, drop downs for nationality, entry date both worked great.

As soon as I entered the Captcha, I got a green 'verified'.

Unfortunately, that is where the love ends. Submitted the form and immediately got the 'Report to Local office' blah blah blah.

So, the website seems to work, bot looks like my information is not in the system yet. Off to make my first in person report soon.

Is there a thread that can be used to find the nearest Imm office? I am in Nonthaburi, near the Ngamwongwan Mall.

    Thanks,

    Michael

If you have a Nonthaburi address you will have to do the report at the office there.

Location info is here: Address and Google Map location of immigration offices

I have a Nonthaburi address and just now appear to have successfully completed the 90 day online report. i had to visit the Office for my last one as I received a message telling me to do so when i tried to do it online.

What happens now? I have a Transaction reference number (TRN) and a barcode for the TRN. Do I get an email confirming a successful online report with a new reporting date? If this happens hw long does it normally take? My 90 day due date is 24 October 2015. I guess if I don't receive any confirmation I had better take a trip to the Office (horrible location)

  7. I find this unbelievable. 230 million bath to compensate criminals who have operated illegally for years. This whole business of thais demanding the right to make a living from however they want to regardless of the fact it is illegal makes me sick. These operators involved in IUU and human trafficking within the fishing industry should have their boats burnt and they should go to jail for a very long time.

But no, Thainess compensates these bastards. I hope the EU bans all Thai fishery imports and other countries like the US follow suit.

  8. Catch 22. Fares haven't risen properly so the quality dropped. I'm sure quality would be better if the fares were fair

Do you actually live here? How many times have you used a taxi here? Generally speaking most taxi drivers decide who they will take somewhere and attempt to dictate the price. Ever tried to get a taxi in Phuket or somewhere down Sukhumvit? Quality of service is something most taxi drivers simply do not understand. The only thing they understand is the mighty baht.

Having said that we have one very good taxi driver who we use especially if going to the airport. Problem is he has become quite well known amongst expats that he is very hard to even pre-book. We tried to pre-book him for a Swampy run for early Monday but he was already in Hua Hin. He was spending the night there as he was booked by another for an airport run the following morning. He charges 1300 baht for Swampy Hua Hin.

So there are some diamonds among the mafia out there. I don't believe the 71% satisfaction rating at all.

  9. When our old Toyota wasn't worth repairing we started out looking at cars at Toyota Sure. I was stunned by the price of 3 to 4 year old cars. Much more expensive than 'regular' car yards. In the end we purchased a new car when Mazda had a promotional loan rate of 0% at the Bangkok Motor Show. So we kept our money in a fixed term interest account and made monthly repayments until the loan was paid off.

If you can wait various banks often have promotional loan interest rates. I saw one at Seacon last weekend at 1.3%

  10. To me it would seem that this whole scandal could be solved by eliminating these 'wholesalers' and selling batches of tickets directly to retailers who have pre-registered. The retailers would make more money and the opportunity for corruption minimizes. But what do I know, I am only a stupid farang who doesn't understand Thainess whatever the fiick that is.

  11. 'Pol Lt-General Damras Viriyakul, chief of Phattalung Police, said police were not able to determine the cause of what happened until evidence is confirmed. It would take around one month to receive verification results from Bangkok. There had been good progress on the Phra Suchat |murder case, but police could not reveal details as the investigation was ongoing, he said.'

This has got to be the first time a member of the RTP would not reveal details of an ongoing case. Common practice in the west but unheard of here.

  12. 2/ Recyclingsystem/recyclingsites,is a key factor as well.IT'S VERY VERY IMPORTANT!!!

Recycling is very alive in Thailand. Everywhere I go I see people on modified motorbikes, bicycles or push carts collecting recyclables. The guys who come and collect our rubbish rip open every bag and extract the recyclables. There are numerous depots quite close to our moo baan that purchase recyclables.
