how can northern island stay in the CU, its part of great Britain and as such will be out of the EU, there has to be a  border control, otherwise we would have no control over any EU citizen or anyone with a schengen visa from walking in, as northern island is in the common travel area they could then travel onto England & Scotland as well as others.

    So what?

  2. Re the bum gun or bottom sprayers, that was the one thing my Thai  bf as was (we're now married) particularly  missed when we visited the UK 2 years ago! Wonderful improvement on non-hygienic toilet paper and something that makes Thailand kinda civilised!

I won't add it's particularly appreciated by the gay community because I know that would be inviting all sorts of ribald or even abusive comments! But there I've said it! Cheers everyone!

  3. I want to live long enough to see a high speed  train from here, Chiang Mai,  to BKK and even Chiang Rai!  Well I'm only 74 so surely I'm not dreaming?! Ha haha!

But good to see definite progress elsewhere.

I love trains as a means of transport and so pleased to read about the raiway renaissance everywhere-  an environmental benefit for all of us.

Get out of our polluting, environmentally damaging unsafe cars and trucks asap!

  4. Apologies to you dear Rooster for my barb re North/South divide but I still get that awful elitist tinge emanating from those contributors living outside of the northern regions of our lovely Thailand. Glad to read you did your bit to eleviate this when you were teaching the kids at your school. As you say: a tricky tight rope it must have been at times and it certainly needs pushing a lot further by very many more right now imho!

Still enjoying your pieces every week.

Great wit even when all around seem to be full of crazies!

Or a "Pullet" a small cock which i think is some kind of chicken!

Have you two been looking again?! Must have been after I'd had a cold shower or you're both fantasizing-  with emphasis on 'sizing'!

I have included a link to the article about the cultural award but if you need to obtain  additional information on the cultural heritage which is Northern and North Eastern Thailand (Lanna and Isaan territory)  I suggest you buy a good Thai guide book or check the internet. You will discover a whole different Thailand with its infinite variety of wats, mountains, waterfalls, tropical forests, music, costumes, festivals and a multitude of ethnic minorities all with their own languages and traditions .

  6. I do think you dear Rooster are far too tied to polluted, overcrowded, overhyped BKK and those dreadful southern seaside resorts.

No mention of Chiang Mai receiving its well deserved  award as one of the top cities in the world for culture.

I have never read anything positive from you about this province or its n

    neighbouring regions.

All very typically elitist and reminiscent of the good old English 'north south' divide

I can t believe how cynical the posters on this thread are. The young man is only 20 years old and who amongst us  wasn t a litle lost at 20.  He has graaped his mother publicly and promised to change his way.  He is entering university and training as a boxer at the same time as well as learning to express himself through photography.  I think the young man deserves our endorsement and best wishes.

    I guess haters gonna hate

Agreed absolutely with all you say sir. There are so many really nasty pieces of work posting on here. Living the life of Riley in their ivory towers and nil empathy for anybody other than their own very limited circle of friends  - if they have any that is! The hatred they express is borderline psychotic.

The UK has not been around in any form for over 2000 years, that is just nuts, 2000 years ago there were four warring tribes, the first time in history that there was unity on the island was in 1653, if you really support our country 100% then you should at least learn the basics of our history.

As for not backing the EU, I think it important to go back to the reason we started it, when Churchill envisioned a United States of Europe it was following a war that killed 65 million people, Churchill's idea was to get Europe into a situation of mutual dependency so that war could never happen again.  We are now experiencing the longest period in recorded history without a major war in Europe.

Brilliant and accurate response. Like most brexiteers they are not only ignorant of their country's history and development but also why the EU existed in the 1st place.

Again someone who did not read the verdict.

She was convicted because Boonsong did fake G2G trades (costing the country 30 billion). People made remarks about the fake trades and as a result YL removed Boonsong in 2013 (thereby acknowledging the fake trades). She however did NOT cancel the trades (probably because some that were profiting from them were linked to her brother). She is charged for not preventing corruption while she had clear knowledge of it. Negligence.

I wonder why so many people post who actually don't even know why she was sentenced. I guess its easier to call it a witch hunt then to accept the charges were real. The judges did not make any judgement about the rice scheme itself. They only commented on the corruption and her knowledge of it and neglect to stop it. That is a crime anywhere. Just imagine if a minister knows about corruption in the UK but does not stop it because parties linked with his family are benefiting from it.

This was not about the policy it self but the fake G2G trades.. trades with China that were never exported to China and that were denied by the Chinese government. This rice was sold at a low price to fake representatives of China, did and resold for the high rice program price in Thailand costing the state 30 billion. The traders who benefited were linked to YL her brother.

This was all known back in the 2013 but hard to prove as YL and her government did her best to stop any investigations and claimed no corruption. When she lost her power finally a good investigation exposed it and proved it without a shadow of a doubt.

So you have actually seen the so-called evidence yourself have you and you have absolute faith in the Thai judiciary system being completely independent from the executive or the legislegislative branches of government?
