And you must yourself consider happy to find some place in Bangkok.

I tried to search in Thai language and among others came across a thread in the biggest Thai forum. No clue.

    Other results also quite meager.

Please don't forget that 8 mm was never a big deal in Thailand.

At its time it might have been a toy for the upper class at best (if at all).

    Never a wide spread hobby.

Good point but hoping perhaps a farang might have some sort of kit over here - clutching at straws now!

Attached pictures of the cine reels involved - illustrating the various sizes - NOT the total quantity!

I said in my earlier response that the films were between 300 and 400 feet. This was from my faulty memory going back over 40 years ago!

From the pictures I took of the reels it looks like the biggest is about 200ft from what I can discern from one of the pics, but it may be a bit bigger than this.

Depending on how many films you need converting it can be an expensive process so if you fancy a bit of DIY instead then Amazon are selling a machine to do it here and there may be a similar product locally on Lazada.

Thanks for that. I had already obtained a quote in the UK - where the films are - and that was >GBP400.

I left the films in UK on the understanding a friend could bring them over as and when I found somewhere cheaper here, but that now seems a remote possibility!

I looked at the Amazon link you kindly included but the m/c on offer doesn't hold any reels >  5".

Mine vary from 3" (holding 50ft of film), to about 8" or 9" (holding 300ft to 400ft of film).

Unfortunately I don't have any m/c to transfer the big reels on to smaller ones either!

I am still hopeful someone will come up with other alternative solutions.

I worry that the cine films will deteriorate as they go back between 45 to 55 years in age; apart from the fact I would dearly like to watch them again as they contain many happy family and holiday records.

Also, regrettably, the cine projector I had has been disposed of by an overzealous relative when sorting out her loft space! Aaagh!!

The vindictive and utterly clueless man child occupying the White House needs to have his twitter privileges revoked. What a joke that boob is, giving a racist and white-supremacy party in the UK a platform to spoute their vile and nazi ideas. Trump is an embarrassment to everything that the USA stands for, like freedom of speech and the freedom of press. And he does nothing else but spread fake news himself. What a great guy, and what a great president he is. Please give me a bucket to puke in ....

I couldn't have put it better Rudi. Waiting for the trumpettes  to answer this. I think they're the same lot that support Brexit. Tarred with same brush imnsho!

how can northern island stay in the CU, its part of great Britain and as such will be out of the EU, there has to be a  border control, otherwise we would have no control over any EU citizen or anyone with a schengen visa from walking in, as northern island is in the common travel area they could then travel onto England & Scotland as well as others.

    So what?

  6. Re the bum gun or bottom sprayers, that was the one thing my Thai  bf as was (we're now married) particularly  missed when we visited the UK 2 years ago! Wonderful improvement on non-hygienic toilet paper and something that makes Thailand kinda civilised!

I won't add it's particularly appreciated by the gay community because I know that would be inviting all sorts of ribald or even abusive comments! But there I've said it! Cheers everyone!

  7. I want to live long enough to see a high speed  train from here, Chiang Mai,  to BKK and even Chiang Rai!  Well I'm only 74 so surely I'm not dreaming?! Ha haha!

But good to see definite progress elsewhere.

I love trains as a means of transport and so pleased to read about the raiway renaissance everywhere-  an environmental benefit for all of us.

Get out of our polluting, environmentally damaging unsafe cars and trucks asap!

  8. Apologies to you dear Rooster for my barb re North/South divide but I still get that awful elitist tinge emanating from those contributors living outside of the northern regions of our lovely Thailand. Glad to read you did your bit to eleviate this when you were teaching the kids at your school. As you say: a tricky tight rope it must have been at times and it certainly needs pushing a lot further by very many more right now imho!

Still enjoying your pieces every week.

Great wit even when all around seem to be full of crazies!

Or a "Pullet" a small cock which i think is some kind of chicken!

Have you two been looking again?! Must have been after I'd had a cold shower or you're both fantasizing-  with emphasis on 'sizing'!

I have included a link to the article about the cultural award but if you need to obtain  additional information on the cultural heritage which is Northern and North Eastern Thailand (Lanna and Isaan territory)  I suggest you buy a good Thai guide book or check the internet. You will discover a whole different Thailand with its infinite variety of wats, mountains, waterfalls, tropical forests, music, costumes, festivals and a multitude of ethnic minorities all with their own languages and traditions .

  10. I do think you dear Rooster are far too tied to polluted, overcrowded, overhyped BKK and those dreadful southern seaside resorts.

No mention of Chiang Mai receiving its well deserved  award as one of the top cities in the world for culture.

     http://www.lcdawards.com

I have never read anything positive from you about this province or its n

    neighbouring regions.

All very typically elitist and reminiscent of the good old English 'north south' divide
