As I said: I do not have a smart tv! I now have PulseTV installed and its working fine.

Works on up to 4 devices - at once if you need to!

I've used it successfully on my 2 non-smart, fairly old TV's, my even older PC, and my pretty smart, fairly new mobile. WiFi signal is boosted for my bedroom TV using a TP-Link mains plug-in device - works a treat.

If you don't know what I'm talking about you haven't been here long. Have a look at the attachment for docs needed for Thai driving licence. it's called a "Certificate of Residence".

Quite right. You must have a certificate of residence to get or renew a Thai driving licence if you're not actually a Thai national. Certainly the case in CM. No certificate = No licence. End of.

The most effective approach would be to offer competitive pay and conditions but guarantee jail time for bribe takers, not just transfers to inactive posts for a few weeks.  Once the first couple of dozen officials are already rotting in jail on multi year sentences, the rest will sit up and take note.  But it ain't gonna happen.

Based around a rural police constable 's basic average pay in England and extrapolating this into baht + adjusting for the differences in the average cost of living in Thailand rather than England it would cost the Thai authorities about 36 billion baht per annum to put your average Thai policeman on an equivalent salary and the fact that there are about 250,000 officers in Thailand. And this does not account for other benefits such as public housing and a salary related,  indexed pension. It won't happen so tea money will continue. If anyone is interested I can provide the basis for my calculations.

Can I take the opportunity to ask about the alternative income method?

I have my first-ever extension on the basis of retirement coming up in October (at Kap Choeng). For proof of income I'm planning to have (1) copies of both Oz superannuation income and superannuation & other investments, and (2) Oz Embassy letter & stat dec re my income. Is that sufficient?

If they want bank statement or copy of BKK Bank book, that could be a problem because I don't always transfer funds by bank transfer to my BKK Bank account. [It's cheaper to do an atm withdrawal from my Oz Citibank account using a fee-free card, particularly when I'm in BKK & can use the Citibank atms there.]

You don't need both at CM Immigration. An official letter certifying your gross income from your embassy is all you need but as others have said : each office interprets the rules independently so documentation requirements vary. Also at CM they like to see the tear off slip from the TM30 which shows you've got your place of residence recorded in their system. It also needs signing and dating every time you re-enter Thailand if you leave the country at all.

I renewed my UK driving licence, which includes m-bikes and cars, on-line, no problem and quite recently. Their system connects with the passport and tax offices to use the passport picture and to verify your UK address. If the tax people have your address here rather than the UK then that would be a problem. The new licence is sent to your UK address obviously so you'd need someone to send it registered post to your Thai address.

forgot to add: it works on-line using your passport number and NI number. you must have both of these.

Yes, without reservation and wholeheartedly....it's long overdue and equality must not be delayed any further. I'm not swayed by the biology/reproduction/sodom-Gomorrah arguments nor any appeal to what might have been the situation 2,000 years ago....

Brilliant response. Thanks for that. I am proud to be married to my male Thai husband since last November. We were married in the British Embassy in Hanoi  Well done the UK for permitting this which even countries that have legalised SSM's don't appear to have this facility.

Two months to hit the news raises enough suspicion. Regardless of the circumstances of death, the fact that this story has seemingly been purposefully suppressed and kept out of the news warrants re-investigation.

Funny, the foreign resident who vociferously protested the Samui Times article last week made no mention of this death (no surprise). But it should make one wonder how he could write his letter while likely knowing about (or possibly having attended the scene) of this last death. It is a small island after all and he claims he attended the Witheridge/Miller crime scene.

Exactly so. What a piece of work he is. In cahoots with the whole rotten system.

Here we go again a great Thai bashing thread. Give them a chance boys it is barely out of the planning stage. When the BTS opened in 2000 many people were saying will not ride for one year too see how it works. Now it hauls thousands of people every day.

Exactly. I am looking forward to a multitude of HS  railways all across Thailand. One of the best things this government has pursued. Glad section 44 is being used in this particular regard. The Chinese have an admirable record with their own country's network so I am confident it will be both safe and reliable. Well done Thailand.

  10. I use any one of three - dependent on who I'm calling and what apps they are using or want to use.

    1. Skype - computer to computer is free but I also have a euro balance a/c set up so that if it falls below a fixed amount it is automatically topped up via a direct debit from my UK a/c and it's cheap anyway. Use this for calls to tax department, pension people, my bank, credit card company, lawyer, etc.

    2. Line - video or audio - totally free and pretty good quality reception most of the time.

    3. WhatsApp - rarely used but it's like Line and some prefer this at the other end especially UK bods.

  11. Good sense prevails - properly licensed Uber and Grab  - this will be a great boon to Thailand and help sideline those awful songthaews and tuk tuks, let alone the current 'metered' taxis which refuse to turn on their meters.

This is the way the world is going and in the next decade or so we will have driverless cars, which will turn the whole car industry upside down and present governments with even greater challenges.

You need more than a marriage to get a visa here.

Same in the UK. Sham marriages have been a big issue there for a long time especially with those originating from the Indian subcontinent so a marriage certificate is no guarantee of citizenship or extended visa stay. There is now minimum salary or other income requirements background checks made vis-a-vid cohabitation etc. Thailand should look at this as a way to guard against such fraudulent relationships

It's a bargain.  Have the last word but I provided the comparison to a London taxi so, therefore, it's an absolute bargain for a fifty minute trip.

No it's not - this is Thailand where the cost of living is about one quarter to one third the cost of living in England - even comparing BKK with London and the current poor RofE. A limousine service or even a cab from LHR to the centre of London will cost you about 60 pounds - about the same distance/time as from BKK to BKK centre so that's equivalent here to about 20 pounds max - certainly not 38 pounds!
