  1. There are many Vietnamese (in the Nong Khai province for instance), Chinese (just find gold shop!) too and of course, plenty of Lao people in I-San. I've even encountered a Japanese woman who was the owner of a nice resort, but she sold and is back in Japan now.

  2. ...I havent heard a good explanation why farangs go for the kind of thai girls they go for. Bargirls as substitutes for a guys mom...?

Not only. It's very simple actually. The great majority of Farang men does not speak Thai. The great majority of Thai women does not speak enough English and the minority who does mainly comprehends women that would not usually engage a conversation with a foreigner because of their (conservative) education. Therefore, most of Farang men can only have interaction and start a relationship with only one kind of Thai women: the ones that they meet in certain well-known touristic places and who call them "handsome men". :o:P

This shows that you are only exposed to one segment of the farangs in Thailand. There are thousands that have many opportunities to meet Thai women that do not work in "well-known touristic places and who call them "handsome men". Just because you don't know any (or few), doesn't mean they don't exist.

    TH

if you said there were 5 or 6 farang good men you may have something :D:D . 1000s of men dont or cannot meet good thai girls due to their lack of speaking thai.

the further i go from seedy areas the less engrit i hear.

so many things people say exist yet i dont see em. wheres all the farang hippos with their thai husbands :D:D:wai: . wheres all the farang with their hi so thai chineese babes?

They are not hanging out in Suk bars which is why you don't see them. There are thousands of farangs with non-BG wives or GF's. They just move in different circles then you.

I do agree the language is a problem and limits how many there are, but they do exist is relatively large numbers.

    TH

As said earlier, I personally know both categories. But for "thousands of Farangs with non-BG wives / girlfiends", there are dozens of thousands of Farangs who are with an ex-BG. That's why I wrote that the first category is "a minority" and used "most of" speaking about the second one.

  3. pick a number x times 3 plus 3 times 3 = (3x + 3)x3 = 9x + 9 for any number = a number divisible by nine and any number divisible by nib=ne the digits add up to nine, therefore answer is always Peter991

    neat!

Got a bug while computing all this with my Windows Calculator... Maybe that's why I found out that Bill Gates is my role model!!! :D:o:D

  4. I lost custody of my son a few years ago, because of two reasons:

    1. My lawyer did not inform me of the actual court hearing

    2. My lawyer did not take me for an interview with the Welfare department

It is written in the court judgement, that the court ordered an interview with the Welfare, because this did not happen; I lost custody and access to my son for almost two years.

I will not bore you with a long story, but I attended every preliminary hearing, and had I been notified and called as the previous hearings, I would not have missed the actual hearing.

Another Lawyer and a Supreme Court Judge said I must inform the Lawyers council, and then sue the lawyer. I have started the first process, a visit to the lawyer's council, which proved positive from them reading the court judgement; but the paperwork involved will employ many hours, especially getting a copy all the court documents (There is a thick pile about 150mm).

Basically my former wife was a bitch and never allowed me access to see my son, the court gave access, but supervised by her and that resulted in comments like this is my country; I can do what I want. After two years the appeal court judged 50-50 custody with three weekends every month; yes she defaults many times, which was condoned by the court. However there has been a change of judge and they are now giving her a hard time, but no change to the Appeal court order, as my former wife has taken it to the supreme court, The worst thing is he is now eight and can not read or write English, basically he's Thai, but in time I assume he will change

Has anybody gone through this and then sued a lawyer.

I know a very good lawyer in the Nong Khai province. She (it's a female lawyer) speaks English fluently and has always been very helpful with me and numerous other foreigners (she's got a great reputation too among members of another well-known local board about the Udon Thani province and its wider area).

If you're interested, I can send you a PM with her contact information (I don't know whether or not I can post them here). Anyway, I wish you the best of luck.

  5. Years ago I advocated staying in Thailand, now I advocate the opposite. I only retain my former view if the Thai partner is older. The younger she is, the more need there is to get her out of Thailand. There is just too much crap going on. Perhaps the only scenario where it would work when younger would be if both parties were working in normal jobs. When it comes to early retirees and owning businesses I think there is too much of an imbalance in work schedules and free time.

I've moved countries and continents before and without a family I would again. However, I would move a young partner out of Thailand but probably move back at some later stage in life.

I agree 100% with torrenova on this one!

  6. I am not in Thailand and couldn't get the phone system to work (they couldn't hear me for some reason) when calling my bank. Also, they don't seem to respond to my emails ever.

So, anyone with a Siam Commercial Bank account (SCB), do you know how long an account there can stay open with no activity? I know Thai banks like to close accounts, especially foreigners' accounts, if they've been inactive for 6 months or some banks wait until one year. I've seen both time examples on this board.

    Anybody know?

I know, I should figure it out myself somehow, and this won't be a thread with much discussion, but just hope somebody can help me out if they know.

I don't know for SCB, but I have an account with Bangkok Bank and it had been inactive for more than one year in the past without it being closed (but I had a relatively important amount of money there during all this time). I suppose that it could have been closed in the meanwhile if I had almost nothing on it or that they wait more than one year of no activity before closing an account.

Untrue. I know some of them (and am one of them!), but they certainly are a minority in the Land of Smiles. By the way, you should have noticed that I was answering a question speaking about the ones that are married with an ex-bar girl!

  9. Will sell a PC.

Lot of datas on the disk I don't want next owner will be able to retrieve.

Have found some free softwares that advertise they can definitely erase files on the disk. They ask which files I want to delete

Little problem.Already delete files during PC lifetime. So don't see them anymore but they are still inside the disk

Wish to find a software which will delete all the datas on the old beast.

Any help will be welcomed :o

I would use KillDisk and then reinstall an Operating System and the computer drivers. Or keep the current hard disk for myself and put a new one (with an OS + drivers) as suggested earlier in the sold machine.

  10. Thanks Gary! It's interesting and sad to say the least.

I watched all 5 and felt sadden for these women. It's not a matter of choice for them, but a matter of survival.

What utter rubbish, it's always a matter of choice, governed by self respect. :D

Get real ! It's easy for anyone to pontificate when they are not struggling for basic survival however the reality is that self respect does not put food on the table, or pay for basic medical care for a sick child. Everyone may have choice but not everyone has the luxury of choosing the one that perfectly suits the value system of other people. Try walking a mile in someone elses shoes and see how much 'utter rubbish' there is to the basic matter of survival.

I don't know who really needs to get real... In Thailand, "basic medical care" or "food on the table" does not cost much (even by local standards). Most girls who become prostitutes don't to that because they (and their family) can't survive with a regular job, but often to be able to purchase non-essential goods (new mobile phone every three months, karaoke-home theater, a brand new motorbike or a pickup truck for the most popular or hard-working ones, etc.), to play lottery and over gambling games, etc.

I bet you saw a lot of Thai rice farmers with a brand spanking new pick up truck, motor cycle and a karaoke-home theater system :o . It's you who need a reality check. ...

Yes, I know some of them who own one or several of these items. And I also know how some among those got the money to buy these products (or to start and reimburse a loan to buy all this). I am certainly not judgmental here (check my other posts in this thread and you should be able to understand on whom I put the blame). I just explain what is purchased with the money earned by local prostitutes. If you believe that it's mainly on "basic medical care" or "food on the table" or other essential needs, think again! Unless you believe that lottery, gambling games, mobile phones, amphetamines (etc.) are basic essential needs?

Thank you, but I don't need a reality check...

  11. Good evening,

My internet provider is IP-Star which I get via the offices of Loxinfo in Pattaya. For the past ten days I have been experiencing problems. At 9 am my connection is cut and does not get reconnected until 6 pm. Despite the fact that I am paying for a 24hrs connection.

Having had enough of this I went to their offices in the vain hope that a complaint would help to sort this problem out only to find that the office was closed for the whole day and as they do not open over the weekend (!)

Has anybody else out there had any similar problems or is it just me?

    Many thanks.

I had iPSTAR (with CSLoxinfo) in the past and it happened quite frequently. As George said, if you can have CAT CDMA in your area, you won't miss the shitty iPSTAR solution. But in the meanwhile, you should be able to obtain a refund for the downtime time (a full day when the downtime exceeds 6 hours). Send an email explaining the situation to the billing division ([email protected]) and to their customer support ([email protected]).

By your post, it appears that you have a lot of personal experience with girls that become prostitutes and have done an in depth psychological study and profile so feel qualified to judge their motivations. At least I am real enough not to put myself on a high horse and be judgemental of anyone's actions or motivations other than those of my own, but then again I probably have not had your prolific experience. :D

I'm not hypocritical: I know many former prostitutes (most of them are now wives of my Farang friends) and I lived several years in a small village in the Udon Thani province. Most people here can live quite happily with less than 3000 baht per month... unless they start to believe that they need some unnecessary products because of the ads and marketing campaigns of big multinational companies (Nokia, Toyota, Sony, Isuzu...).

  13. I'm just very thankful I wasn't born a Thai female in the middle of a rice paddy. ... :o

I am too (thankful that I was not born in the rural and poorest parts of the Land of Smiles), but mainly because as a Thai male or woman from these areas, I would not have received a proper education and would be tempted by avid marketing and multinational companies that are making their best to sell me products that I don't really need...

  15. ... My work is web based

so as long as I have internet I can keep myself busy. ...

So, be careful and check first what are your options for Internet access in the chosen village. You might have only an expensive and unreliable (especially during the rainy season) solution such as iPSTAR or a very slow one (GPRS/Edge). Alas, CAT CDMA-EVDO rev.A is not available in many remote areas...

I could be happy in a small village provided that I have a decent and reliable Internet connection (and a good vehicle).

  16. ... So what about the rest of you?

Are you shy, on the run (you guys in Pattaya need not reply - we already know) or just plain secrtetive?

    ...

What my nickname means is explained here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?s=...t&p=2316633

Using a pseudonym is a common practice on boards, and a good one in my humble opinion. You might not always say (write) what you actually think when dealing with sensitive matters or topics (such as prostitution or politics, for instance) if you are using your real full name...

  17. can anyone recommend any tips and tricks that will help me open a thai bank account please? i've been advised that bangkok bank is my most likely avenue. i'm on a tourist visa and have been in the kingdom for about eight months if that helps any. cheers.

I opened one at Kasikorn Bank in Chiangmai is September. I had only been in the country for five days and was on a 30 day visa waiver entry.

Just showed passport and used hotel as address.

    No problem

Exactly what I did a few years ago in Udon Thani at a Bangkok Bank branch. No problem.

  18. One of my torrents which I downloaded yesterday is corrupt. I cannot access it to delete it.

My download client Vuze tells me to run Checkdisk but I cannot locate Checkdisc on my computer?

I am running Windows XP Pro 2002. Sp 3. Any suggestions please

Click on "Start" (button), then "Run", type "CMD" and click on "OK" (button). In the black window, type:

    CHKDSK volume: /F

Of course, you have to replace volume with the drive letter where your torrent files are located. For instance: CHKDSK d: /F

If your corrupted files are located on your system drive (probably on c:), you will have to reboot your computer and the volume will be checked the next time the system restarts.
