  1. Skype will not shut down if you press the ‘red x’ at the top right of the Title Bar, or selecting ‘Close’ from the File Menu, it will just minimize to the task bar.

Annoying “Feature” that seems to be implemented to avoid accidental shutdown, I guess?

As mentioned above, if you want to shut down Skype, you need to right click on the Skype icon on the Task Bar, and select ‘Quit Skype’.

  2. Yeah, never seen Sukhumvit in Pattaya this congested before.

Tonight they even closed down the entrance to Pattaya Thai for anyone Southbound Sukhumvit.

The BIB’s were setting up fences and enforced U-turn only, for traffic that anticipated turning down Pattaya Thai.

  3. Not sure what you mean by the fee not being itemized. What Bank did you do your withdrawal at?

If I withdraw from AEON there are no surcharges. However if I use any other banks ATM, there is a 150 Baht fee, and it will be itemized on the ATM receipt.

My Schwab debit card is linked to my brokerage account. If I use an ATM with a surcharge, it will be deducted at the same time as the withdrawal is registered in my account.

It's my understanding that if you don't have a brokerage account, but just are banking with Schwab, then you will get reimbursed at the end of the month, for any ATM fees that you have accrued during that month.

See below for two different recent withdrawals, one using AEON, no ATM fee. And one using Bangkok Bank, 150 baht fee, that was instantly reimbursed.

  4. "It is not 'thought' that anyone else was inside the room at the time of the fall and Police can only speculate that he either intended to commit suicide or accidentally fell off the balcony due to being intoxicated."

Yeah, of course it's suicide or an accident… Case closed… At least he didn't have a plastic bag covering his face.

    RIP, and my condolences.

  5. Thanks MTH

Is Soi Bongkot the first junction from Sukumvit in Pattaya Tai?

    (I don't have a decent map)

    thaicbr

I'm size L in Europe. REAL make sounds good, is the shop north of Soi Diana Inn on Soi Bukaow?

It's slightly closer to Third road, than to Sukhumvit. It's the intersection that usually gets jammed up.

Here are the GPS coordinates, just plug it into Google maps: 12.921165,100.887258

  6. That shouldn’t disqualify you from getting a tourist visa in KL, they have always been very accommodating with the single entry ones.

If you’re concerned, then supply them with a copy of a ticket showing a flight out of Thailand 60 days after the application date in KL.

As there are some newer tourist visa requirements, I’m not sure if they actually do require a copy of your ticket to Thailand, and a copy of your accommodation plans.

According to their web site they do, but haven’t seen any reports on it yet.

Here is a link to the Thai Embassy in KL.

  7. Hi guys, thanks for the replies

Indeed I got an exempt stamp for 30 days. So I'll be looking for a cheap flight to Singapore or any place else.

You think 30 minutes turnaround time at Singepore airport is enough or should I play safe and take a flight back 6 hours later?

Is there any limit on how many exempt stamps my passport can have?

30 minutes will not be enough time, as you need to pass through immigration in Singapore, or wherever you decide to go.

Usually the airlines wants you at the departing gate 30 minutes before takeoff, and don't forget that before that, you need to go through the airport security check.

There is currently no limit on visa exempt entry stamps.

  8. I brought a couple over from the UK, they are great in the wardrobes, just empty the water container every couple of days, or every day in Samui during the forth coming monsoon season. And they do not create heat!!!!!

These you can buy over here as well. I pick up these refillable ones at Home Pro. As you say, great for the wardrobe.

Guess the OP is looking for something larger though, (the appliance type), as he mentions room size and coating on window frames and walls.

I know the ones you mean, but the ones I brought from UK are small electrical ones. They have a 12 volt transformer.

Cool, didn't know there where small electrical ones. Guess it makes sense for the car, boat, RV market.

Will keep an eye out for one of these, would be much better, than periodically having to refill the ones I have with crystals.

  9. Jingthing is right on the spot.

Proof of income is irrelevant. Why not have your friend apply for a double entry tourist visa?

60 days initially on arrival, and an additional 30days at immigration. Brings your friend to 90 days.

Then if the dude want to stay longer, a quick boarder hop will grant him well over the 99 days you’re looking for.

  10. Thank you very much for the help.

One more question, since I m staying with my Honey, which all the bills & address are her name, so how to justify our address?

FYI, I did not registered for married and also not having a work permit.

    Thank you again in advance.

If "your Honey" owns the house or condo you're staying in, make copies of these pages from the blue book: Address page (first page), and the page with her name on it.

Also supply a copy of your Honey's ID card. Have her sign all the copies. That should do it.

If renting, copy of the rental contract and a copy of the persons ID card that's the renter.

  12. I just got my HDMI cable today and there's a good picture but no sound from the TV after the hook up with the Acer Aspire 5740 laptop :(...sound from the laptop OK, switched it off and played around with it, etc...

I haven't finished my investigation yet but I read that some laptops will not support the entire HDMI capability (ie., sound) even if they have an HDMI connecting plug...anyone got any info in this regard? I also still got to wade though the Samsung user guide for the LCD TV...

Yes, there are HDMI ports that only carry picture.

But in your case, most likely, assuming Windows…, just right click the speaker symbol in the lower right hand corner.

    Select 'Playback devices'

Set the 'HDMI output' as default.

got it...setting the TV as the default device did it...

    many thanks for your help...

MP, always nice when it's just a 'simple' settings change. :)

  14. Charles Schwab & Co., set up a with a brokerage account. With their VISA debit card there are no ATM fees and you will receive the daily corporate exchange rate. So hard to beat.

Additionally, if you have a Bangkok Bank account, you can set up transfers to the Bangkok Bank NY office for easy transfers.

Good if you want to transfer larger amounts, however cost is a little bit higher than a straightforward ATM withdrawal.
