  1. I'm a bit surprised The Dems & the GOP haven't yet openly picked an opposing side to make it a political issue (e.g., empathetic vs cruel heart, or oppressed vs oppressor).

Seems like most other issues have to be political (e.g., mask vs unmask, close schools vs keep them open (same for border)).

  2. Quote: "Year after year capital spending has been getting squeezed, accounting for just about 20 per cent of the total outlay.  The public and opposition parties could cry hoarse over budget allocations to the Defense Ministry and related organizations but could change almost nothing."

Prime example: A totally unnecessary, blackmail susceptible, & future budgetary expensive albatross known as the RTN Admirals Chinese submarine.

Yes China poses a very serious threat to Thailand's car manufacturing industry and the Thai Govt would IMO, be well advised to take firm action to protect this sector.

The insidious influence of China doesn't end there. Take little Chantaburi - it now has 5 branches of Mr DIY which has sucked the life out of many local traders. The 'CJ' chain has proliferated too. China finances infrastructure projects and the 'High Speed Railway' is underway.

The dollar has been set aside. Thailand's fevered tourist policy encourages massive numbers of Chinese visitors.

This is madness for Thailand. I see China as a bad actor, taking over in the South seas and they are an imminent threat to Taiwan.

Thailand has to assert it's position against this major neighbour, a World power, and not just roll over.

The RTN Admirals don't want you to be distracted by concern about PRC /CCP impact upon the Thai economy /Thai citizens employment.   After all, there is the issue of the Chinese submarine that RTN Admirals need for their prestige.

Sarcasm: You must keep Thai National priorities in line with the RTN Admirals fantasies.

Looks like more of a prestige thing than actual requirement that is needed for defence needs

Agree.  Some Navy bigwigs that want to feel important without a convincing strategic requirement. The sad thing is the long-term strategic political & military implications.  Can't the civilian leadership of this country now put a funding halt to such nonsense?

Thailand will be dependent upon PRC submarine model specific Doctrine, Organization, Training, Logistics and Materiel upgrades, & thus subject to CCP unreliability /blackmail.  Undoubtedly there will be PRC advisors in Thailand for these functions and they will be doing their CCP required intelligence gathering while here.

    Unmarried taxpayers.

If you are not married, you satisfy the reporting threshold only if the total value of your specified foreign financial assets is more than $50,000 on the last day of the tax year or more than $75,000 at any time during the tax year.

    Form 8983 Info

The above criteria is for those living in the US.  The criteria for those living outside the US is different.  For married taxpayers filing jointly it is as follows: quote

"Married taxpayers filing a joint income tax return.

If you are married and you and your spouse file a joint income tax return, you satisfy the reporting threshold only if the total value of your specified foreign financial assets is more than $400,000 on the last day of the tax year or more than $600,000 at any time during the tax year.

  6. Sounds like it might fit in with the advertised description of "One Bangkok", intersection of Rama IV & Wittayu Rds, opposite Lumpini Park.  But on the other hand, "One Bangkok" is much more than an entertainment complex, it's also meant to be a residential and business complex, so perhaps that makes it inappropriate.  Who knows?

I bought a TurboX 100 from Lazada last month for 1067 baht. 60GB a month at 100Mbps. Has some free call minutes and messages thrown in as well if you need that.

I must have a lot to either better understand or know better where to buy.  From a small shop in Lotus (not DTAC) I just bought a 12-month DTAC sim for 2,500+ Baht (ie, 2.5 times what you paid).

I use it in a router (which I carry with me to use with my 4 pc's in 4 different Thai cities). It does have a larger monthly limit, I believe 100GB/mo.

I can also call with it if I put the sim in my mobile, but I don't need or bother with that feature since I have a postpaid ais mobile sim (approx 270Baht/mo & I seldom use mobile now).

I just bought a DTAC phone & limited data sim for my router.  How can I tell how much I am using so that I don't run bout of data every month?

    Answered my own question:

    "

How many GB is a 1 hour stream?

Standard definition uses up to 0.3 GB per hour. High definition (720p) uses up to 1 GB per hour. Full HD (1080p) uses up to 3 GB per hour. UHD (4K) uses up to 7 GB per ho

Depends how much Internet-based TV you watch and how large your data allowance is.

If you only need the internet to set up the TV in the first place (you may or may not need that, depending on the TV) then you only watch cable TV after that, your data allowance would almost certainly be more than enough.

If you plan to watch lots of internet-based streaming content every month (Netflix, YouTube etc) then possibly your data allowance might not cover it - again, depends on what your allowance is.

Thanks for all comments & I apologize for my ignorance (I'm learning 🙂 ) & for appearing to hijack this thread.  I have a router (password enabled) & a limited sim (DTAC 12mo I think 1GB/mo cost 2,500 Baht) I carry on my frequent travel back & forth between 4 cities in Thailand. Edit: I don't want internet on phone & use hotspot because I prefer using pc at two locations (thus require ethernet cable from router) and laptops prepositioned at the other two locations.   I enjoy some streaming but can limit that in future to conserve data allowance. If someone can further educate me I thank you in advance for my following questions about data allowance conservation:

1.Is the router draining allowance simply by being turned on without using the internet (ie, should I constantly switch the router on/off when I'm not on the internet)?

2.Any idea how much data allowance is consumed per hour of streaming (ie, how many hrs or minutes per month could I safely watch without draining it all)?

    Hi folks,

The TV in my rented condo has died and my landlady is telling me that she is having difficulty sourcing a new one which doesn't require Wi-Fi.

Her son came round last week with another TV which, unfortunately was too big. Had it fitted the location, he was suggesting that we try to connect to my Wi-Fi just to "set it up."

The only Wi-Fi which I have is via AIS on my phone. I pay THB 2,500 pa and use it as a hotspot with which to operate my laptop. It is more than adequate for my laptop's requirements but, the son explained that if I used it as a vehicle with which to watch TV programmes, my phone data (not sure if that's the correct word) would run out very quickly.

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

    David.

Question based upon quote:  Is the son's statement correct, ie the wifi allowannce would run out very quickly?
