Don't that shiiit last until the 20th? I think it goes from 12th until 20th with 20th being the big huge day of Beach Rd being closed and water everywhere. That's what it was last year.

That's what I remember also.  I will assume a repeat performance & probably schedule leave before 12Mar & not return until after21Mar.

Friday 12th has been declared an extra public holiday.

So the official holiday period alone is 12 to 16 (two substitutes for Sat/Sun).

Pure traffic chaos/party on the beach (road) no later than the 12th.

Whether the chaos will continue even after 16th? Not sure.

Thanks all.  Ya, I was already familiar with the above-mentioned dates.

But I remember those "traditional" dates being extended in Pattaya area in the past; to provide for later water throwing, first in Naklua, then in Pattaya central, & then finally in Jomtien.

Perhaps such extended dates have yet to be announced by Pattaya officials.

Sunk cost -Yes.  But, to address only the cost -effectiveness aspects: that is not sufficient justification for making things worse with a 20–30-year expensive life cycle.

Plus, it also overlooks the potential logistic & political blackmail, & potential espionage considerations.

Thailand was wise enough to not get too deeply ensnarled in the CCP's "Belt & Road" initiative traps ("Loss Leaders" to get a foot in the door).

But the Thai military just can't resist the CCP temptations can they.

Sorry, what I meant to say was that the "Sunk Costs" to date represents only a small part of the total 20–30-year life cycle costs of a major weapon system from Development to Procurement to Operation/Maintenance to Disposal.  The Thai mission of coastal security has more cost-effective alternative solutions.

The Thai government does not have a valid need to involve themselves with expensive strategic deep water navy weapon systems, especially when it was developed for, & dependent upon, CCP naval Doctrine, Organizations, Training, Logistics and Materiel Upgrade support.

The admirals are very happy; they've had/spent their inducements. Billions have been spent already (see Srikcir above).  Scrapping the whole idea now is not feasible even for a Thai flip-flop government.

When the 5 year point is reached & LTR visa comes up for renewal of the additional 5 years:

If the Thai Govt & BOI administrators want LTR visa holders to be medically insured, it seems logical to me to expect that they very well may not be happy with someone that did not continue the medical insurance for all 5 years.

... or the continuation of the ability to self-insure by the alternatives acceptable to BOI.
