Was in Phuket for the footy 7s last weekend a Farang took a battering in Bangla road on Saturday night. It looked like he'd given one of the ticket sellers a slap , I just saw about 10 Thais , men and women steam into him. I was with my 13 year old son , so I dragged him out of the way. When I turned around the Farang was up and was holding his own and it got broken up pretty quickly. What shocked me was the glee and ferocity the Thais steamed in with, looked like they were revved up waiting to steam into someone
Maybe the Thais are finally getting sick and tired of the foreigners bad behavior. Sounds like this guy was,nt too bright. Lucky he was not killed.
Thai sycophant. A crime has been committed and you automatically take the side of the perp based on race and the victims perceived writing ability?

I think Ibuprofen will help...... What is wrong with this country ? Are they orbiting in the space with no contact with other aliens ( read rest of the world )
Ibuprofen for the pain, amoxicillin for the infection, if that was combined with Tiger Balm as a topical treatment, you'd be sorted!

The Black Death was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 75 to 200 million people and peaking in Europe in the years 1346–53–
It looks like nature has its own recipe to get rid of people in overpopulated areas ignoring all hygienic standards.
Hence, LOS as a hub of these standards is safe.
You say "Nature" but some of the most recent outbreak could have more sinister origins. Some of the reports about HIV and Ebola raise a lot suspicion, they come from the same place in Africa. Its certainly fair to say that certain fractions are looking at ways to deduce populations. Its worrying to imagine what they'll come up with.
Whats frightening about it in Thailand is the personal health standards. Not just cooking but the way people cough or sneeze in public without covering their faces, I've noticed this a lot in Bangkok and have been sprayed a few times in shopping malls. They look around as if surprised and I've never seen anyone sneeze into a handkerchief. If they ever got an airborne virus like SARS here it would spread like wildfire.
Another concern is when communal eating putting their spoon from their mouths directly into shared food dishes, rarely using a serving spoon.
On the whole Thailand is one of the cleanest places in the region and the people are very clean when it comes to personal hygiene and washing regularly. However some observed behaviour spreads germs and there is room for improvement.

Another carefully selected news story in the run up to high season.

Should have been charged with assault and suspended without pay. The victim is defenceless, handcuffed and on the ground. The officer is scum and there is no justified excuse for his actions. Just imagine the low life scum they are going to get with conscription to the BIB
if this was the UK he would have been beaten with a baton pepper sprayed or poss tazered. All you do Gooders need to get real. He was caught redhanded this is not 2 goats in Koh Tao. Bang to rights. He deserved what he got. Personally I would have had a few of his teeth out as well. I think he got of lightly.
Totally agree, he's probably got no license, no MOT no insurance. Drives drunk and hits other cars, not stopping at the scene. Thats several year prison anywhere. Here he gets a bit of a kicking, seems appropriate to me. Drink driving is endemic here. Hundreds of innocent lives lost every year. The ends justify the means. If it serves as a deterrent to savages then its fine with me. I hope he got a further beating later.

All down to lack of vehicle maintenance i reckon,ie,brake failure, more than likely a maintenance issue, maintenance is an ugly word in Thailand.
Thats certainly the drivers claim. "The driver claimed the vehicle suffered a brake failure"
On the other hand I have witnessed careless driving on more than one occasion in Thailand.
I wonder if the driver has an HGV licence to be driving a crane? Pending a full investigation, I'll keep an open mind.

The Fitness First centre at Paragon is great and pretty reasonable at 2200 - 2600 per month depending on payment plan. They have personal trainers but its extra. However 3 initial classes are included plus free progress updates.
It took over from the California gym which I was also a member but this is much better. In the last 18 months I've seen great results in weight lose combined with a Low Carb diet.
It well recommended, includes towel and fitness clothing.

What findings? They will only have whatever the RTP gives them. There is no crime scene anymore.
My thoughts entirely, they had over a month to "prepare" the forensic evidence. They will only find what the Thai Police want them to find. Its not like can get GCHQ to check phone calls, emails etc. or examine paperwork becuase its all in Thai. All they have a month old crime scene.

Nice of the man in uniform to squeeze his arm to see if he was telling the truth.
Should have paid his parking fee.
If you live and drive in Thailand you should know the procedure.
If he was back at home he would be looking at a 3000 baht fine.
Nonsense. Show me a case where a 70 year old man had his arm broken and car smasked for the equavalent of 40baht "Back home"???
In tourist destinations its important to have good clear signage and even a little English from the staff. This is the way to enforce and fees fines, violence is not acceptable...Thai sycophants strike it again.

Scapegoat or not...remains to be seen. Thai Police can't be trusted in most of the cases, agreed. But so much hatred and bitterness towards Thai people in general in this topic.....unbelievable. It really makes me wonder what are you still doing in this country.
Fail to see your logic. This is a particularly gruesome murder and emotions run high, the process and outcome of this investigation stink of corruption. The bitterness you complain of is mostly directed at the handling of the case rather than Thai people in general. What you are saying is, if people don't like they should leave Thailand?

It would appear that a "visa run" will be the best option. Singapore for about 4k might be the easiest way.
Thanks

As answered above, extension for employment is one year, no more and no less, it requires a good deal of paperwork.
If you leave country ad return before June 2015 you will be allowed for 90 more days.
Paz I appreciate your assistance, the only thing I can suggest is that my explanation is wrong. Its 7 days to 1 month. Its not 1 year I have not mentioned employment.
-
The extensions is for one year.
If you don;t qualify for the extensions you can go to Laos for single entry, or Penang for multiple.
Sorry I must have phrased that wrong becuase I'm sure I can't get a years extension. The visa I have is a "one year Non-B multiple entry". My stamp for Thailand expires this Friday Oct 3rd 2014. My question is, if I go along to immigration in Bangkok what is the maximum extension period, I believe its just one month and costs 1900baht. this can vary though and I don't want to get there and be told its just 7 days or something....
Any ideas anyone?
-
The visa I have is indeed a "one year Non-B multiple entry". The expiry date is for the visa is June 2015. However I'm stamped-in to Thailand until this Friday Oct 3rd 2014. My question is, if I go along to immigration in Babgkok what is the maximum extension period, I belive its just one mone and costs 1900baht.
-
Hello I wonder if anyone can help? My current Non-B Immigration visa expires this Friday October the 3rd. I understand an extension is available for 1900 at immigration Bangkok. My question is, what is the most I can extend for, is it 1 month?
I really need to go to Hong Kong for work but with the current political protests I don't think I'll get much done. Ideally I'd like to wait for things to blow over and don't fancy a pointless flight to Singapore or somewhere, just for a visa stamp.
Last year I did the Kanchanaburi visa run which was great from Bangkok but now thats closed.
http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/740973-no-more-kanchanaburi-border-runs/
Any info on extensions suggestions for visa runs from Bangkok?

I find that hard to believebecause tourists don't usually have access to hoes at night on the beach.
Not ho's, hoes.

Well done to the Thai Police for catching the criminal. It makes me feel safer knowing the police will investigate violent attackers and make arrests. Hopefully word will get around the perpetrators circle of friends that its NOT OK and they will think twice before resorting to ultra violence so quickly.

The first car buyers programme was always going to end in disaster. There will be 50,000 - 100,000+ defaulters in this scheme
If only 500 defaulted it is a rousing success not a disaster. Better check your math.
Indeed, only 0.05% defaulted and over 1 million cars are sold. The only negative effects are that the prices on the 2nd hand market are down and after the promotion the car sales are lower than normal.
Agreed and with regards to the 2nd hand car market....not in itself a bad thing as second hand cars here are terribly over valued.
The people I have spoken to in Bangkok have said that the increase in cars has caused more traffic in Bangkok.
-
that means it was a big succes if only 500 people do not meet payments....
they have sold hundred thousands of cars.
again big succes!
A success for who ?? the poor ?? government ??? thousands of cars on the market, could bring down second hand prices though.
you name it,
the poor,
the first car owners.
the manufactures of the cars and the workers,
the cars sellers and staff.
the oil compagnies
the insurance compagnies
etc etc
What I think the poster means is that 0.05% is statistically a very small amount of customers defaulting.

The fact that crimes being committed by the politically elite are even allowed to be reported is progress. Well done to the military.- 3

Important to note this is only "during the low season" has fallen by 30%
This could mean they are just being clever and checking the weather before they book.

I find that calmly saying "Ba ba bor bor" (you crazy bugger!) whilst shaking your head is usually enough to get the message across. In Asia you have to cause the offender to lose face as shouting does not have the intended effect. For example, when you see somebody smoking in a non-smoking area, who is clearly pissing everybody off, it is usually sufficient to say "We don't mind if you committ suicide but please don't take us with you!" The crowd then laughs at the offender who loses face and usually stubs out his cigarette in embarrassment.
Yes in the cool calm and collective environment reading this over your breakfast. However if you've just been eating concrete cause some moron decides to perform a U-turn and knock you off your bike you might be in a different frame of mind.
Why do so many commenter's take the side of the of the wrong doer? Its like "i've been here years, let me give you some advise..."
Especially if you can say something witty in Thai, you'll be fine...
Give me a break!

If you conduct an illegal maneuver and don't pull it off and at the same time cause a collision, you should accept a bit of criticism. However with the Thai male, there is no right or wrong, only "you cannot complain me" I'll resort to ultra violence. So Thai's are above reproach, they are so perfect that they cannot be criticised?
This is a real social problem here in addition, some of their driving skills out there are horrendous.
Hope the assailant goes to prison for a long time .Perhaps he can rekindle his massage skills inside. Nasty piece of work.

Train crushes Dutch tourist to death in grisly accident in Thailand
in Thailand News
Posted
The fact that there have been 3 incidents this months (and I quote) "The incident was the third involving the Thonburi-Nam Tok train in a month.
This may point to there being a safety concern with this train service.
If safety was a priority then there should be no normal circumstances where a father with his family could be killed using this transport. When I say "normal" i mean getting on and off the train etc. I doubt very much there was any unusual activity being performed by the man. So it is fairly safe to assume the safety of the service is in question here.
