  1. I read today that National Police Chief Pol Gen Chakthip had instructed Immigration Officers to return to their desks within two weeks. In a report to the Prime Minister, he said that the shortage of personnel to process immigration at the airports is partly because some are borrowed to work for Phu Yai (ie high-ranking officers) at other police offices. [Most of the immigration officers are female staff who have good communication skills and English proficiency, which are much-sought qualifications by senior police officers.]

"They are being recalled to service the people and make sure the immigration counters are open and ready to work. These officers are away because they are asked to help Phu Yai."

Do people really believe her account has been emptied? Are you the same people that believed her when she said Rice Scheme was sustainable and there was no corruption?

Boohoo her account is frozen. Fact check! the shinawatra have billions stores in the virgin island,  majority of their wealth is not even in the country. This was kindly provided by wikileaks - long with names of hundreds of other Thai businessmen.

Who gives a hoot about these politicians, they are all corrupt. Its best cases like this are brought up, so those in power are more afraid. Change is good.

    M,

I searched on Google for Wikileaks references to *Thaksin* having money in the Virgin Islands, and the best that I could find was that his ex-wife had money there.

     - Perhaps you can provide a better source.

And in 2011, 15.7 million people voted for Pheu Thai (compared to 11.4 million for the Democrats) - like it or not, *they* most certainly give a "hoot".

  3. Keesters,

Your original comment was: "Good. I hope she like being as poor as the people she stole the money from."

    Then you wrote:

If you believe Yingluck and the rest of the Shinawatra clan earned their money entirely legally then it is you who live in a fantasy.

Now you're expanding things somewhat to include the rest of her family. This sounds like "guilt by association".

     - Can you present *any* evidence/source that she *personally* gained from the Rice-Scheme ? Or that she "stole" money from poor people ? Or that she has *personally* earned money illegally ?

I'll keep an open mind, until I can see some form of evidence against her on these points.

  4. Note:  Mr Kan-anek Pachimsawat, 66, is free on bail of 350,000 baht pending the outcome of his appeal.

On May 27 last year the Criminal Court sentenced him to two years and nine months in jail without suspension, and a fine of 200,000 baht.
He was originally indicted on April 23, 2015 with possessing 0.676 grammes of crystal methamphetamine, or "ice".

     - It would appear that selling fake amulets is considered to be a "riskier" crime than being caught with illegal drugs.

    1. ***Many*** different kinds of activities might be considered by *some* people ( = The Powers That Be) as being "politically motivated" [eg any published criticism of the Government].

    2. " ... could risk violating the law"    --   Doesn't he *know* if it would violate the law or not ?

  6. I just read a story in "The Nation" about 2 baggage-handlers who were caught (allegedly) stealing from suitcases at the Airport - in the news report, the 2 men were named.

Now *why* is it that the (alleged) assaulter in question here is *not* named ?

      -  And Policemen/Senior-Politicians in Thailand proclaim that there's *one* Law for *everyone* in this country ?

For 200.000 Baht he is free on bail now.

The whole thing has nothing to do with justice. I wonder that the thai society accept this so uncritical.

     - "Thai Society" ?

The population of Thailand is almost 68 million.

67,980,000 of these people know full well that they have *zero* influence/control over the decisions ( = laws) made for the benefit of the other 20,000.

And they don't waste their time being critical of "justice" in Thailand - it would be pointless.

While we're on the subject, can someone clear up whether immigration are entitled to charge for a letter of residence or not. I know I have paid every time, but have read somewhere that it's supposed to be free.

The letter *is* free, but there's *no* chance of getting a "free" letter quickly [with a a day/week or three]   - unfortunately, the Immigration Police have invented an expedited service, where you can get the letter in a day-or-two.  -- You are asked to pay for the expedited service, although you will *never* receive a receipt for your payment (of typically B500).

  9. The *only* solution to this problem involves high-level, direct-communication of a *political* (ie not a *military*) nature between (non-military) Thai Authorities and "Southern Representatives", leading to negotiations and to compromises regarding devolution of local powers and decisions.

     - Otherwise, deaths and injuries in this region will continue ad infinitum.

A major problem involves developing "trust" between the 2 parties, and another involves identifying "valid" Southern Representatives (ie people who have a mandate from the Southern Terrorists to speak/negotiate on their behalf).

This conflict must be dealt with "politically"  -  and not (only) "militarily".
