  1. Does anyone know where I might be able to find Thai literature available in audio book form? I know that there may be some available at the Society for the Blind, but I was also interested in finding out whether there are any Thai language audio books available commercially.

  2. All information about the examination, together with the relevant application forms, is available on the Bureau of Education Testing website: http://bet.obec.go.th. The information on this website breaks down the test into its component parts, and explains what each part is about.

You may also wish to do a search in this forum. I and others have posted in detail about our experience with the test.

    Cheers,

    Bob

  3. Rikker, that was brilliant. I found your explanation absolutely fascinating. I had never noticed any of this before. Thank you very much, indeed. Do you have similar tips for the difference between ด and ต, one the one hand, and บ and ป, on the other. I have had, and still have to some degree, certain issues in the proper distinction between with these two sets of consonants.

  4. I have been trying all day to access newsgroups - the alt.binaries type. I am using True ADSL ut I am not sue what their news server address is or ho to properly configure in outlook. Has anyone managed to set this up?

    Thanks,

    Bob

  5. I am fluent in both Thai and Mandarin, although I learned Mandarin when I was a young child. I find Thai a great deal easier than Mandarin. Needless to say, written Thai is simple compared to written Chinese.

  6. I would venture that if you apply as an expert, then you would indeed need to prove your expert status. I'm not sure what proof would be sufficient, and that is something that the kind people in Room 301 would be able to tell you. I did not have any letters of support of any kind. I simply supplied that documents that were requested, nothing more. I applied in the business category, so my job, my salary and my tax payments were, I believe, the most important factors.

  7. They want to see you have made some valuable contribution, either through creating (a large no. of) jobs, charitable work, investment etc. Letters of recommendation from upstanding Thai citizens also counts for a lot.

These things may be important for an application for Thai citizenship, but they are certainly not for PR. Although I have a good job and pay a substantial amount of tax, I have not created a single job, nor did I provide any letters of reccommendation from upstanding Thai citizens. It's just not relevant for PR.

  8. Generally, lying to the police is not a very good idea. You never had a work permit in the first place, so reporting to the police that you lost it is bad advice. I agree with Mr. Brownstone. You need to get your old company to issue a letter to the Labor Department that your old wp should be cancelled and confirming that you never actually worked for them. If they are not willing to do this, you will need to go to the LD yourself and explain the situation so that it can be sorted out.
