  1. Me and the family are planning a trip to Pattaya in December and been looking for a hotel. We finally settled for the Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel and Resort. Since there were no rooms available on Agoda or the other hotel sites my wife called to make reservations. She spoke to a nice lady who said we could have rooms for our stay and we gave all details including our e-mail and then we waited for a confirmation. After a couple of days my wife called again and spoke to the same lady who said maybe there was someting wrong with her spelling our e-mail, better if we could send an email to the hotel and then they could just return the confirmation. OK said and done, I sent an e-mail to the adress on the hotel-site and we waited again. After a couple of days my wife called again and this time gor connected to the Reservations Manager, who was qute rude and said that the rooms were confirmed by him on the telephone!! Now it was time for me to call this guy. I told him that since we were travelling 5 people from Sweden I would very much like to have a written confirmation, he again said the he was confirming our rooms by telephone but finally agreed to confirm it by mail if I sent him an e-mail to his own e-mailadress at the hotel. Said and done. Today after 3 days I receive his "confirmation".

    Subject: Reservations

    Hello to you!

I refer to my telephone-conversation with you a few minutes ago.

My wife xxxxxx xxxxxxxx has made reservations with you for Dec 13 to Dec 17, two doublerooms (if possible with connecting doors).

Please confirm by e-mail that we have these rooms.

    Best regards"

I mean, what kind of confirmation is this? In my opinion a confimation should include Roomtype, Prize, Info about breakfest, Check-in and check-ot-times and a Wellcome notice and maybe moore. This hotel is really beginning to irritate me. This hotel is supposed to be 3 or 4 stars and cannot handle reservations. I am getting some bad wibes and think maybe we better cancel the rooms and start looking all over again.

Would you settle for this kind of confirmation and go?

  2. Fill an empty bottle with a water / bleach mix and put it on the cooler. Leave it for a few hours then empty the cooler and run through a bottle of clean water to flush the system of the bleach mix ;)

Excuse for one moore question. What is bleach? Same things you use for laundry white or?

  3. Year and a half ago we bought a water cooler and we have been really happy about it. However since some time I have been wondering about how to clean it. Lately I have seen what seems to be green algea in the bowl where you put the bottle and that was easy to clean with a papertowel. But what about the pipes inside the thing, should you not do something about that. Is there something to pour in the machine or what to do?

  4. One of the banks here are advertising several units in a big building which has a sign saying "Sea Sand Sun" infront and that seems to be like 300 meters from the sea.

    Adress is

Hat Mae Ramphueng Road , Ta Phong District , Mueang Rayong Amphur, RAYONG Province.

I cannot quite understand where this is. Anyone with any informqtion about this condo? Would it be worth getting a unit to use as your seaside home. I live in Udon thani and sometimes you like to get to a beach.

  5. I think something strange is going on. Last nite I did not fly from Bangkok to Stockholm, Sweden with Thai since the flight was cancelled and they have put up signs saying it will be cancelled for another 2 days. However had I been booked with SAS I would have been in Stockholm according to schedule (about the same as Thai) and according to SAS flightplanner they will fly tonite also.

Are Thai playing it safe and rerouting everything to Rome and Madrid?

  6. I think most air-lines do not allow children under the age of 12 to travel alone but at the same time you can ask for the assitance packege. For Thai Airways it works like this: You have to purchase a full fare ticket so there is no discount for minors, you pay 30 US dollars for each trip.

My son has done this many times and we have had no problems, do not forget to book and pay in advance.

  7. I think others will tell you that sending money out of Thailand is difficult. A friend of mine, who sold a house last year, ended up doing the following. He opened a local bank-account och with that got the usual Visa Electron. With this Visa card he now draws money in his home-country (Sweden). There is of course the daily limit but he is quite happy with this solution.

  8. I am on a one year multiple visa and since I travel frequently I never had to bother with any 90 day reporting. However on my next trip I am cutting it close and I just like to double-check. I arrived in the Kingdom October 19 and I have been counting in my calendar that 90 days should be on January 17. Is this correct and does it mean that I can walk through immigration on Jan 17 without doing any 90-day reporting?

My plane will leave after midnight on Jan 18 but that should not matter or does it?

I know of the 90-day calculator but for some reason I have not been able to download it.

  9. Grundfos MQ3-45 all the way . . . had one for the past 3 years and it has done nothing except work perfectly - so much so you forget it's there!

In short if you want good water pump then buy one from a company that specialises in making pumps . . .

I know people who had Hitachi, Mitsubishi and others because they didn't want to pay the Grundfos price - however my Grundfos is still working perfectly where as their poor excuses for pumps have either packed up completely or are on the verge of it providing sod all pressure.

An example of how good the Grundfos is - in my upstairs bathroom I have a large head rain type shower which if I open the tap full on it's quite painful on the skin . . . oh and if someone flushes the toilet or turns on a tap whilst I am in that shower . . . absolutely nothing changes! I love that shower! :):D

I have seen the Grundfos CH series at Global House and ST Mall in Udon Thani, but have not seen the MQ3-45....Anyone know where I can find this in Udon?

    Stoneman

Just bought one in udon from a shop just at Fountain circle, cheaper than Global.

  10. Thai's use shovels that are nothing like what I am used to and I don't find them efficient enough for my needs. I would like to move quite a few wheelbarrow loads of dirt and wonder if a normal western shovel is sold anywhere. I did not see any at HomePro. The specs I am interested in are a long handle for a taller person, wide & rounded blade, heavy gauge steel that won't bend in clay, and a place to put your feet to lay into it. This would be the regular shovel found in the USA but I have yet to find anything like it here. A spade would be nice too, but maybe wishful thinking.

In Udon Thani they have them at Tool Pro.

  11. I am in Thailand on a Non-Immigrant O-A, Multiple entry visa issued by Thai Embassy in my homecountry. This visa expires in October and I am planning to renew here in Thailand. My question is will I still get the Multiple entry or is this something they only give at embassies outside Thailand

  12. Do any of you think a Multi-Split Aircon system is a good or bad idea? That is when you let one outside compressor serve two or more in-door fan-units.

For myself I think it should have several advantages but I have no experiance of my own. I am in the process of renovating a house and I want air-con in every room. The house and the rooms are not so big but there are 5 rooms to be cooled (I calculate 6 indoor units) and for one thing it would be nice to reduce the number of compressors outside. Should it also not be cheaper and more dureable?

  13. All,

Where can I buy the Bangkok Post in Ubon??? I have had a good look around, and have been unsucsessful so far. The only shop I did find that sold it was right in the middle of town but it was mid morning and she had sold out.

If anyone knows a shop, the closer to Warin Chamrap the better.

    Cheers,

    Desertcam

Well in Udon Thani I just went to the nearest shop selling newspapers and ordered the Bangkok Post. They deliver, free of charge, to my gate every day and I pay monthly. Comes around 2 in the afternoon.

  14. Anyone who likes to enter Schengen must prove that she can support herself during this stay in Europe. There is one amount (which I forgot just now, 30 - 50 Euro?) for every day she likes to have a visa. If she has a regular job with salary that goes into a bank-account and she has enough money in the bank this will do. If not, you, as the person who is inviting her, must prove that you have the money to support her during her stay. Best is if you have a regular job and can show your payslips together with bankbalance. Perhaps you could let any of your parents do the inviting if you do not have a regular job?

My advice, read the instructions on the Swedish embassy web-site, read it once, read it twice and maybe even three times. Is is very confusing the first time but if you just do everything it says there you will get the visa.

Regarding the documents, you just bring them for the interview, check them and check them again! Do not forget the insurance and the visa-fee!!!!!
