  1. On another note,....

I'm sitting on tonnes (yes, literally, tonnes) of Eucalyptus wood shavings and sawdust,... as a result from our wood-factory.

I'm using some as bedding in our garden and to top off our plant pots and so on,.... also all of our neighbors and friends use it in their garden.

Some people use it for their pets (cat litter box and some for rabbits and other small pets)

I like the clean look of it in the borders of my garden and it mulches down very well, our plants seem to like it.

As it is not our core business and I can't spend too much time and effort into it (marketing and sales in getting rid of it that is) I'm looking for any ideas or anyone who could use it or sees a project into it.

Talk to me if you have an idea....

  2. You can get various grades; the cheap stuff has all kinds of crap in it, the more expensive ones are much better. Go to a shop at Kham Thiang market that sells more than one variety; they will let you check all kinds, then you can choose. I usually go for the brand with a rose logo on the bag.

That said, none of it will be like Scott's Miracle Gro, but then prices are still much cheaper than that level, too. If drainage is still a concern then mix in some perlite / vermiculite.

"Phom aw Dinh" (Dinh = soil for pot plants in Thai)

Din is any kind of soil, down to clay and sand.

for this plant or flower. The they will give you the right bag and also will probably advise the right fertilizer as well. Synthetic Fertilizers here almost all of them look the same (more or less) but they have a number,.... I did not figure it out completely yet, but it's important you use the right number for the particular plant, flower, tree or even your grass.

It has the N-P-K numbers on it yes.

This company sells a lot of gardening stuff, especially flower seeds but also potting soil which is probably the closest you can get to commercial grade potting soil as sold in the West.

  3. What you are talking about is probably the Rice Hull or Shell they use to grow seedlings.

They are great for growing plants in the first few weeks as they keep the seeds moist, but you are right they are not good for further growing plans as they don't keep nutrition for the plants.

In Tarad Kham Tieng (spelling?) you know the big flower/plant market behind Tesco Lotus Super Highway,.... they will sell you any particular soil you need if you ask for it. Best is to approach a shop that sell's similar plants as the ones you want to pot. Point at them and say: "Phom aw Dinh" (Dinh = soil for pot plants in Thai) for this plant or flower. The they will give you the right bag and also will probably advise the right fertilizer as well. Synthetic Fertilizers here almost all of them look the same (more or less) but they have a number,.... I did not figure it out completely yet, but it's important you use the right number for the particular plant, flower, tree or even your grass.

I have found organic fertilizer (made from Buffalo dung) at one shop, but not always in stock, but sorry I don't know how the shop's name is, just the location.... it's 200 meters down the soi with all the Orchids, followed by the shop with the fake fluorescent flowers,......

If you have a Thai person to go with you (or maybe your Thai skills are better than mine) ask for it and someone will point you in the right direction.

It's been working out well for me so far this way, I'm a big "amateur planter" myself,.... so why wouldn't it work for you?

    Good luck!

  4. Some things at Rimping are actually cheaper than even at Tesco or Big C. Really strange.

    Not really.

    That's called "Good Marketing"

I'm too lazy to explain how that works. But it's a well known practice and working out excellent for Rimping.

Personally, I don't like the whole concept of supermarkets anyway,.... especially not those who have a few guys named "fruit polisher" on the payroll and I'm immune to most of their sales tricks.

They only offer a handful of products that's really NOT available anywhere else so if I really need one of those, I walk in, buy the thing and walk out. Most other stuff you can find in local places and a lot cheaper as well.

  5. Jumping from hospital to hospital and doctor to doctor leaves you open for bad advice such as one doctor telling you to take and Warfarin and another telling you to take Ibuprofen for some thing else. The two are a dangerous combination. Best to have a doctor who has knowledge of all your conditions and medications.

This sounds like good advice to me.

Good advice is to always get a second opinion

    2nd Opinion: YES

    2nd Treatment: NO

  6. bursting vessel in the brain is an anurism...

No, a bursting blood vessel in the brain is a hemorrhagic stroke, an aneurysm is merely the bulging of the wall of the blood vessel.

    Exactly.

As soon as a Aneurysm bursts it becomes a Subarachnoidal Hemorrhage (maybe bad translation) or Meningeal Hemorrhage.

  7. You might suffered a light TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) probably during your sleep as you don't remember the event but only suffer the aftermath symptoms.

A TIA is difficult to diagnose (even immediately after the event) does not always leave trace of evidence.

A TIA feels like a stroke (CVA = Cerebro Vasculair Accident) but is only a temporarily event, usually passes within 1-2 hours.

Mostly caused by a short lack of oxygen supply to your brain caused by a blood cloth, a very low red-cell blood count, low blood pressure,.... and so on.

A TIA is not to be ignored, even when all symptoms go away after a while.

Sometimes it's completely gone after a day already.

You need to see a Neurologist who will follow up as this could be followed by a CVA.

Many (no numbers sorry) patients who suffered a TIA will suffer a CVA within a year after without treatment or follow up.

The follow-up is mostly what your Neurologist did,.... blood thinners, control blood pressure and Cholesterol.

Also you should get an ECG ASAP (Electrocardiography) and check your heart for rhythm disorders.

I'm no surgeon or doctor, but an EMT and saw this happening many times over and these kind of events leads to TIA/CVA in 90% of the case.

    This is my two cents.

  8. I get my trousers ironed for work i have brought lots of pairs but i just can't find anyone that does not leave burn marks on my trousers and when i look around at my thai work colleges they also have burn marks on there cloths also, I have changed about 10 times with the same result i have told them to iron them inside out but with the same result i have even showed my wife how to iron them with the same result it's very frustrating especially when i am going out next week to buy 4 new pairs like i do every year ready for the new term .

    You're right.

Very difficult to find someone who does the ironing thing correctly.

Also, they tend to buy the cheapest iron without water tank who have steam that helps avoiding burn marks,....

It took me more than 6-7 shops before I found one that's good.

Mine is in Faham next to Wat San Sai Ton Tok about 200 meters before the San Pee Sua Tambon border/Gate on your left.

I do deliver all my clothes already turned inside out and tell her to iron them that way and hang them on the hangers inside out as well.

Proper little angel you aren.t you?

(tao)reet bit of advice there lad

I'm sorry, but this "slang" I do not understand.

I'm not sure if it's a compliment or an insult.

As you can probably see in my previous messages, English is not my first language.

    Care to explain?

  9. BTW, you know which one I'm really, REALLY hoping will get renovated in my lifetime... This one. What a magnificent building, and what a waste. So many people driving past it on Thapae gate likely without noticing..

Imagine the value of that building in that location, compared to it's current use, to sell some dusty magazines.. sad.png

    you are AB-SO-LU-TE-LY right !!!

I've been admiring this house for YEARS!

Happy there's more people noticing these things,.... but my heart bleeds a lot and I actually go sad when houses like this get leveled and another frigging row of 5 shop/townhouses replaces it.

Seen this happening in Chiang Mai too many times.

  10. Like New York, New York, it must be so good.......Khun Vee named it twice!

Yes I know and I'm sorry but it was rejected the first time because of the link (I suppose?) and the edit-ed it and still the first post was there also,.... blink.png

I don't know how to delete the first post.....

Anyway, have a look on Tripadvisor or any other rating-site and this is simply the best Guesthouse in Chiang Mai.

Ohhhhhhh,.... now I said it 3 times wai.gif

  11. If you're looking for the ultimate family friendly Guesthouse with swimming pool and lush garden, great kitchen and a great (Belgian) host, Daphne,

They have spacious family rooms for you and your daughters,... within your budget.

There's only 1 place in Chiang Mai.

    Liam Suan Dok Mai Guesthouse.

The website is the name + com

  13. If your budget is 10.000 THB for a month in June it might be well worth checking out Hotels/Guesthouse as well.

Before I lived here permanently I used to go up and down from Europe and stay 4-6 weeks each time and I found it really hard to rent something descent for less than 3 months in a row.

Some hotels will give a great monthly rate if for that hotel this month is a slow month.

Seems to be different period (except during the great festivals and holidays) for each hotel so you will need to do some intensive "research"

  14. re ...No I ment the "central" company or branch.... logo..... not the letters on the roof!

ahhh ... im with you now ... sorry my mistake .. you mean this one : )

    dave2

    YES

But this is Khad Suan Kaew right? Not Central Airport Plaza.... I think they really do/don't-do this for marketing reasons,..... just a thought.

  16. This is always the experience i get with polo tees i bought here.

During the 1st week of wearing i will look almost like a professional golfer. Collars are nice and firm, material seems top notch.

2 weeks or so it will slowly deteriorate making me look like the typical sexpats outfit and within 3 months I will look totally like a trailer park resident.

I usually change by the end of the day, and then give them a wash, dry and ironing.

So I really couldn't tell how I'd look like after a week,.... not to mention after 3 months...

    whistling.gifwhistling.gifwhistling.gif

Wash yes, as needed. Dry yes, hang from A/C on balcony, but what is this "ironing" you mention? huh.png

I understand the ironing issue,.... nobody likes to do it but it is essential for the long life of your clothes.

The ironing does not only let you and your clothes look smarter, but the heat of the iron on the fabric makes the fabric somehow get back in "form" after the washing and your clothes will maintain the original model for a longer period of time....

If you don't like to do it yourself, there's numerous ironing-shops around who'll charge around 3-5 THB per piece (even if you do your own washing at home)

You can completely disregard this post if you don't care about your appearance in public, but then again, those people should stop complaining about others' giving you the "trash" treatment. Sorry (well,... not really) to say that first impression is everything everywhere anytime.

  18. Then you should go and have a look at XL EXPORT (or something like that as I'm not 100% sure about the name)

I understand it's some kind of a factory outlet. Factories that produce clothing for the west and these are rejects.

So best to check well before buying. But in general the quality of the fabrics/manufacturing is better than the ones they sell in BIG C or TESCO.

Be careful there. I bought 4 pairs of shorts that I really liked (450 THB each). I wore one pair for about 3 weeks and they apparently had a defect that was not visible because they tore all the way up the side right up against the seam. I then wore another pair and this pair didn't last 10 days before the same thing happened. I took them all back but no possible way to get a refund or credit. I tried to get them repaired but everyone said no way, the material had a defect and could not be stitched unless it was on the seam itself . I then wore a 3rd pair and sure enough the same thing happened to them within 2 weeks. Obviously the distributor knew there was a problem but put them on the market anyway at a high price. I'll never shop there again.

If you think 450THB for a pair of shorts is too expensive,.... you've lived in Thailand too long LOL thumbsup.gif

Anyway, that's the risk you take when buying in these shops. But I have the same problem as the previous poster and I will NOT find find a pair of long sleeves or pants that will fit in a descent way in any other clothing store (I'm 2 meters) in Chiang Mai. Unless I go to the tailors on Wororot and they did not yet make a single thing I like,.... yet.

I've bought a few things there that weren't that good after all and had once a similar experience as you,.... but then again, It's so cheap it compensates the rest that's going a long time.

I don't know if I'm allowed to name brand names here so I will not. But to give an example; they sell a certain or brand from Europe that is expensive in EU because they use high quality materials (100 - 150 EU for a T-shirt or sweater and 350 EU for a winter/ski jacket) I bought there the same stuff and for the same price but different currency LOL still using it because it is high quality but rejected (I found out later) because the factory had used the wrong color if zipper on the jackets and labelled the wrong sizes in the shirts.

Well I've been shopping there for a few years now and out of every 3 times I walk in there there's only one time I find something descent.

As said before,.... you have to dig and check!!!!

  19. Depends on your size. I'm 6 feet and 185 pounds and find it hard to find T-Shirts that fit me (arms, chest and shoulders are usually too small). Shorts are no problem and in fact picked up a few pairs of shorts at Tesco Lotus. For T-Shirts, the Night Bazaar usually carries larger sizes as it's more geared for tourist rather than smaller Thais, but don't get suckered into paying too much.

Then you should go and have a look at XL EXPORT (or something like that as I'm not 100% sure about the name)

Anyway, I always have a look there when I pass by. Lot's of stuff and occasionally they have something nice, you will have to digg tho.

Enter Khad Suan Kaew from the Starbucks stairs and same level of Sizzler an BKK Bank it's on your left hand side next to the escalator.

Left side of the shop is for Male and ricght side is for Female.

I understand it's some kind of a factory outlet. Factories that produce clothing for the west and these are rejects.

So best to check well before buying. But in general the quality of the fabrics/manufacturing is better than the ones they sell in BIG C or TESCO.

  20. Im pretty sure Central are a majority shareholder in Robinsons

And I'm pretty sure they are not, Central Retail Corp owns Robinsons, Central and Zen.

And Rinascente and Food Hall and Tops and Power Buy and Supersports and B2S and Page One and Homeworks and Watsadu and Office Depot and .................

  21. And I'm pretty sure Airport Plaza has the full name Central Airport Plaza.

Why is KSK also known as The Gary Glitter mall? Never heard that.

Yes correct but the I believe they don't use the central-logo there is it?

I did not come up with that nickname,.... but picked it up from others more than a few times over the years.

Anyway, the alleged reason would be that the average age of the "crowds" there is around 12.

  22. Im pretty sure Central are a majority shareholder in Robinsons

That might be true, but it's about marketing (not sure I'm using the right wording)

    Like it happens with cars,....

  23. cant see KSK closing probably just change - it's a dump compared to airport plaza and the films are mostly pasa Thai so I go there rarely but I'm guessing it will find it's niche as the shops in the new mall will be premium rents

CENTAL KSK will probably not be closed as a "mall" but CENTRAL will stop exploiting it,.....

Airport Plaza is actually a ROBINSON mall.

Most shops/restaurants from KSK will probably relocate to CENTRAL FESTIVAL and Khad Suan Kaew Mall (also called "The Garry Glitter Mall") will then probably be exploited by another company for more 99B stores etc,....
