  1. There's a good mattress and bed-linen shop on J.J. Market (dunno the name it's one of those Thai shops with no-name)

Coming from the moat, going towards Kamtien market, it is on the right corner of the first intersection.

Fair pricing and "western style / quality" mattresses.

I've bought a Queen size mattress there for 6.000 about 2 yrs ago. (not the Thai cardboard thing, really comfy)

  2. If the typical Chiang Mai operation is anything to go by, they might not be using much butter. Not all butters were created equal anyway - the bakery supplies shop on the road north from Sripoom corner has cheap butter - but I always get New Zealand.

I think it is BS for you to say, 'Not all butter are created equally'.

There are two kinds of butter, salted and un-salted.

I'm not sure who's BS'ing here, but Toolz is very right when he says "Not all butters were created equal"

Saying that "There are two kinds of butter, salted and un-salted" is very short-sighted and would be equal to saying there's only two kinds of beer, draft and bottled.

Of course there's many kinds of butter, and I don't refere to margarine or such.

There is many different type's of butter available in and around Chiang Mai and it depends on the products you're baking or cooking which one suites best.

My opinion is that the reffered bakery is using a good butter for their products.

  3. Wouldn't it be possible to "ignore" him and his "announcements/speeches" in the Thai media et cetera, trough the existing Thai laws.

He made at least 1 or 2 speeches (understatement) that are against the law. So based on that I would say ban the distribution/publication/broadcast of all his announcements and international interviews in the Thai media.

Even during the "crackdown" he was given a forum and sending inflamatory messages en statements trough Thai media...

  4. I am an American, set to fly to Chiang Mai on Wednesday 26 May for wedding. How is the situation there? Have things calmed down? We are worried, but know news reports can be skewed. Input from people living in CM would be helpful to make a decision to come on 26 May, postpone trip, or cancel. Thank you!!

Dont miss that wedding, things are fine here. No need to listen to alarmists.

    I'll second that.

AFP: Thailand imposes curfew for three more nights

AFP: Thai authorities on Thursday imposed a curfew for three more nights in Bangkok and 23 other provinces

  6. Ou school has just told us that that there is a curfew been imposed in Chiang mai from 8 pm to 6 am.

    Can anyone confirm this?

    Today, 2010-05-19 16:15:56

MCOT: CRES imposes curfew in Bangkok Wednesday from 8pm through Thursday 6am to allow security forces to control situation

    That's for Bangkok

Haven't seen anything similar for Chiang Mai yet

  7. Din Daeng Red-shirts to Act on Their Own

    UPDATE : 19 May 2010

Red-shirt protesters in Din Daeng area, who were not happy with the key leaders' decision to call off the red-shirt rally, have declared themselves independent from the main red-shirt movement.

They say they'll now act on their own and have threatened to hunt down members of the press.

Of course, that's the first thing to do in a truly Democracy huh?

    (Sarcasm)

  9. I doubt it i am in Chiang Mai and to tell you the truth every one i meet is a red shirt supporter (That is not to say they all support violence) but i doubt if one would ever see a yellow shirt demo here in CM

I'm also in Chiang mai and have noticed quite a change. A month ago almost everyone was a red shirt supporter, but in recent days many are seeing them as thugs holding the country to ransom.

    Tru.

    This also my obesrvation.

I used to see many red flags hanging in front of the shops (outside the inner city)

Strangly most of them dissapeared over the last 7-8 days or so,...

Again, this is just an abservation, draw your own conclusion.

  10. I've been called by a friend who was near Chiang Mai City Hall about half an hour ago.

Aparently there's a red mob trying to set the City Hall on fire.

Lot's of police and army around, my friend said.

OK, so this is 'hear say' from only 1 source, and therefore I post it here to inform if anyone has a relyable source or relyable information about this current event.

  12. Time to clear out the protest. Bring in the tanks and heavy equipment. Do a few F14 flyovers. This hopefully should clear out the women and children and non terrorists. Then deal with the armed element until they retreat home with their tails between their legs. Then we'll see if Thaksin skips paying them.

F14? Thailand is only a poor country. I don't think we even have 2nd hand F14.

    Thailand a poor country ????

    :):D:D:D:D:D

  13. I'm using ie7 and Firefox (dunno if it's relevant, but still)

In both browsers, when I hit a page with the majority language other than English (English is my default language) a blua bar comes up right under the other toolbars and asks me if I wanna translate into English,... when I click it it translate the text (in the page directly) within seconds...

Now sometimes it doesn't shows and I need to reload that page once or twice and then it comes.

    Have you seen this feature?

  14. Peaceful protesters do not steal billions of dollars worth or private and public property.

Like the yellow shirts? After they left government house, there wasn't a single valuable item left in there. Computers, furniture, cars, everything gone.

    That is so much BS.

I also remember an report on television in Europe about the clean up of Suvarnabhumi Airport,... executed by the protesters themselves and the staff said afterwards they were surprised that all was still there and the computers worked fine,... Same for the Government house,... it was looted by other people. Yes, some of the infrastructure was damaged when they invaded the building, tru.

I'm not a yellow supporter, in fact, i suffered severe financial loss because the airport closure that time, I'm in export business, so it's not really my interest to play the yellow card.

But I can't have it when lies and hot air are blown.

You seem very good at it.

And it isn't possible that the lootings now are also being done by people other than the red shirts?

Yes that is possible, I never stated otherwise.

But that was not the point of my reply.

I will not comment on that as I have not yet seen any relyable information about who is looting now.

The only thing that we now know is that there IS people looting. Period.

  15. Bangkok burning, people dying, Thaksin shopping at Louis Vuitton Paris..

Here's a guy with his priorities all lined up.

Think he could've been to the Monaco Grand Prix with his daughter and a large contingent of hi-so Thai's affiliated with the red bull family. Anyway, I thought he was banned from EU states?

I don't know whether or not he was banned from the EU but there's something strange with this photo. We are told it was taken on the Champs Elysées in Paris but all the people around Thaksin are or look Asian.

Correct, because a majority of Paris' LV store are Asian tourists because the price difference is significant.
