“When I borrow money from someone, I don’t dare ask whether that person robbed someone else or if it was drug money. It was what it was – financial aid between friends, and the loaned money didn’t mysteriously disappear. It was duly repaid, with detectable transactions via the banking system.”
I do wonder why nobody has dared ask him where the money came from that he used to duly pay these loans back.
Amazing Thailand!

I understand the ramifications of moving an injured person but just to have another human sit beside you and assure you everything will be ok and help is on its way or even to lay a blanket or jacket on her and at least show some compassion.
First of all, I am sincerely glad that she is making a good recovery.
I totally agree with your comment above, I must admit that some comments in that regard on here are amazing, from the videos that I have seen, nobody appeared to show her any compassion whatsoever and it was absolutely nothing to do with them worried about moving her, half of them wouldn't have a clue about that part.
I find that difficult to understand, as a human being.

Has anybody managed to find the English version of the Y2017 PND.91 tax return form in Fillable PDF format on the RD website?
The only ones that I can find are for the first half of the year.

But how do you educate the old drivers that are already set in their own ways.
Agreed that teaching the older generation cannot be achieved, however, it is not an excuse, the Government NEEDS to start educating the young now, it has to start sometime and it will take years to filter through, road safety has been discussed on TVF thousands of times and I think we all agree that it is a combination of a lot of things, not just one or two, that WILL eventually makes the difference, unfortunately Thailand currently doesn't do anything except let people die needlessly in incidents.
Enforcement is one of the ways, the trouble is that the open corruption and lack of enforcement has most of the population believing that they can do pretty much anything they want, they have a disdain for the law that is deeply ingrained and it is not just on the roads.
This morning I watched the full length video of this incident (not calling it an accident, coz it was totally avoidable) and this video goes a long way to showing why the young lady nurse was positioned where she was, bearing in mind Thai culture and fear of uniforms, the car that was beside her had only just pulled up at the lights and as mentioned by others, the policeman was trying to cadge cash of the young boys.
I have the link to this, not sure if it would be allowed to post on here, or fair on her Stepdad either.
I was very glad to read from the lady's stepdad that she is not too seriously hurt and do hope that her recovery is quick and full.
IMHO one of the probable reasons that the road death statistics are going up is the use of mobile devices whilst driving / riding, you will see the use of these constantly whilst traveling on the roads here, even on the motorway etc.

i know its not the bike riders fault at all but why was she not nearer the curb side ? in the uk we are taught slower moving traffic keeps to the left in Thailand all these bikes seem to want to be in the fast lanes all the time, i see them on the Sukumvite daily. being in the middle of the road is asking for trouble with these people behind the wheel.
Quite simply you hit the nail on the head, most countries educate their people in road safety, it is non-existent here, so it would not have entered her head to stay left.

No I'm not.
I'm saying because it happened to a local in Thailand, there's no real use in a non-Thai getting their panties in bunch and venting about what their fellow Thai citizens did or did not do.
It is what it is.
OK, then I apologise, however it doesn't make the fact that no one went to her aid right at all and I am pretty sure that a fair percentage of Thai people would condemn this as well.

Once you embrace the incontrovertible reality that "Dorothy, you aint in Kansas any more," the whole thing falls into perspective, the blood-pressure subsides along with the totally wasted and fundamentally useless righteous indignation.
What a strange statement, you are basically saying that because the accident took place in Thailand makes it right that they ignore and do not check out the injured party.

A visa would only be issued if the applicant passes all of the requirements of the embassy issuing it, regardless of who submits it.
Lots of agents out there that will submit the application for a fee, none of them can offer a concrete 100% guarantee that the visa will be issued, so it is buyer beware.

In this age of smartphones, then it is good practice to take a photo of your passport photo page, TM.6 departure card and entry stamp, plus any extension of stay etc. where applicable.
At least if you do lose your passport for whatever reason, then all the info needed is easily to hand and this should make it a little less painful dealing with immigration when getting any stamps done etc.
This along with a police report would also help for checking in to hotels etc.

This totally avoidable incident happened almost certainly due to the lady car driver having to check some extremely important Line message or Facebook post that could not be missed, 90% of the population here are addicted and seem totally obsessed with looking at their phones regardless of what they are doing.
I do hope the nurse manages to survive this and makes a full recovery.

If you have legal sole custody of a child and are divorced, then you can depart Thailand with the child, no permission is required from the mother, as you have sole custody, if the ex. wife agrees to sole custody, then she is forfeiting her parental rights.
You would need to ensure that you have copies of the custody papers and divorce certificate, I would also carry a copy of the child's birth certificate as well, to tie it all together name / ID number wise.

How about executive directors receiving remuneration in shares? ?
Actually, that would be allowed probably as a part of the compensation package, or even some other benefit in kind, housing, car etc. etc. very common practice here.

Does a director have to get paid a salary or can it be 1 baht as jackdd stated earlier?
You could appoint a non-executive director, who would then not actually be employed by the company and could, only if they choose, get compensated for attending board meetings etc.
Not sure, in the context of the smart visa, if they would allow this, it is very common in industry though and it is allowed within the normal framework of work permits etc.
I suspect in this instant that they would expect a director to be part of the executive team, hence the no need for a work permit perk!

US citizen visiting Ukraine will get a visa free 90 day entry upon arrival, so the assumption here is that the OP's friend stayed for 91 days and we are all thinking that they refused him entry because of the 90 days in 180 days rule, however the OP does clearly state that his friend indeed had a Ukrainian visa for the visit and if this was the case, then the only visa that would have been issued for a US citizen is the long term visa, which allows him to stay over this 90 day rule, they do warn to ensure that the date on the visa is valid.
All very strange.
ENTRY / EXIT REQUIREMENTS FOR U.S. CITIZENS
You need a valid passport to enter Ukraine. If you are a U.S. citizen, you do not need to have a Ukrainian visa as long as you will be in Ukraine for fewer than 90 days within a 180-day period. You need a visa or valid Ukrainian residency permit for all stays longer than 90 days. You cannot get a Ukrainian visa at the airport or at the border. If you need a visa, please get it in advance at a Ukrainian Embassy or Consulate.
Check your visa carefully so that you know the validity period. You are responsible for knowing the rules for the type of visa you have. Sometimes U.S. citizens try to come to Ukraine before their visa allows. Remember, in Ukraine the date is written day-month-year. If you come to Ukraine before your visa allows, you can be stopped at the border, not allowed to enter Ukraine, and required to return to your point of origin at your own expense.

It would be interesting to know which airline he was travelling on and if it was a direct flight or via a hub?
QuoteInstead, he has to fly on the Ukrainian airline back to Ukraine and CONNECT to the USA through Kiev.
This from the OP, so it must have been with Ukraine International Airlines.

According to the OP, his friend departed for Ukraine on a TV, having already previously spent the max 90 days in 180 days in the Ukraine.
OK, I must have missed the bit where the OP confirmed that his friend had stayed for 90 days in the 180 days, I was under the impression that he had overstayed by one day, although you are correct in that the airline did not check thoroughly enough, as he did have a stamp for this overstay in his passport.
Checking the Ukrainian MFA website, it appears that short term visas are not issued to US citizens?
There are three types of visas:
1. Short-term visa (C), allows stay in Ukraine for the period up to 90 days within 180 days starting from the date of first entry to Ukraine (not issued to the US citizens). There are single entry, two-entries and multiple-entries visas valid for the period of up to 5 years.
2. Long-term visa (D), issued for applicants entering Ukraine with the purpose of obtaining a residence permit in Ukraine (required by Migration authorities of Ukraine according to the legislation of Ukraine). Issued for 90 days (see details below)

How would the personal income tax be calculated on 200K per month out of interest? Or what's the final value?
Total tax owed on 2,400,000 income per year would be 455,300 THB based on the same assumption, single person, no kids etc.
CORRECTION: it would be 434,300 THB per year, first time I forgot to increase the allowances etc. to the new rates.

I don't think so. Tax on 70K at 20% is 14K per month, so 168K per year.
Just to be correct, the income tax on 70,000 THB per month for a single person would be 53,150 THB per year.
The first 169,000 THB is deducted for personal allowance, expense & social security payments, the next 150,000 THB is tax free, then scaling up from initially 5% to a max. rate of 15%.

The airline has to return him at their cost in these situations.
I am not questioning this, however, it does interest me as to why the airline is liable if the passenger has a valid passport, can enter on visa exempt, or has a valid visa and outwardly there is no known reason for the Ukrainian immigration to refuse entry?
I can understand it if the airline had not carried out proper due diligence in checking if a passenger is eligible to enter, but in cases like this, I would have thought that the airlines would have this covered in the T&C's for carriage.

His detention is probably something to do with his status here, i.e. in transit, rather than in the country, it might be some rule that the Thai immigration implement in these cases, I still think that they would have the discretion to allow him to book a flight and let him go on it, even if it meant him being escorted through immigration etc.
At the end of the day there isn't that much difference in sending him back on a flight to Ukraine.
Certainly serves as a warning to us all if ever in the same situation, as going back to your home country would mean that they could not refuse entry.

Normally immigration will make the responsibility of repatriation up to the airline that flew him to Thailand, although in this instance it would make more sense for them to let him purchase a new ticket and fly home to the US, it serves no purpose to detain him if he has the means to pay for a flight, pretty sure that they have the discretion to allow this.

I remember it was during Mr. Taksin first or second mandate that one of his Minister decided to force the Malls to open at 11h00. It was to save electricity cost and the Minister said to help the employees have shortest working hour.
I have lived here for close to 30 years and the big malls (at that time most were in BKK apart from Royal Garden in it's infancy) have never really opened before 10am at the earliest, certainly there was no 'rule' made to force them, it is all to do with market forces / closing times, if they were to open earlier then it would probably either mean closing earlier, or another shift of workers and therefore cost, that is probably just not worth it, basically it is a trade off, open early close early or open late close late.
People quote Big C extra as an example of open early, which is true, it is a supermarket, if you observe 90% of the shops / stalls that are within the building, most are rarely open before 10am.
There is a big advantage in someways to closing later, as the office hour workers can actually go shopping, unlike places like the UK, where the usual late night (8pm!!) is on a Thursday, otherwise join the mobs at the weekends.
I can't see Thailand changing their ways for many a decade to come.
Former top cop admits borrowing money from massage parlour owner Kamol

If it was that simple everybody would be doing it!!
It was stated that the loans were documented, I'm pretty sure that it would have involved interest, nobody loans out 300m THB interest free, as using your logic, they would be losing out on the 10% earnings on their money.
One would imagine that if the VS owner loaned 300m THB to the cop, then it was on the basis that the cop had some means of paying it back.
Remembering that investments can go down as well as up!
