Not sure, I did not make this map. It might not be updated for a while...

Sorted, As am from Chiang Mai not sure how to get about and to avoid these pesky bridges.
However, the nice people at OSM (OpenStreetMaps) have sorted a map for my Garmin Nuvo Sat Nav which has the "Bridges" and "Toll Roads"  in grey and "un-selectable" when setting a route

    Have a look here, http://www.nightrider.info/

Will find out next week how effective

  2. Have just installed and tried this.

Not a chance, buffering like crazy, I used to use the Thai Expat but it got worse after a year and changed to UK-TV no problems what so ever.

Just hope they keep UK system going.

AND I paid for the month before I saw the notice that they had changed so I guess thats money gone as Thai Expat are now sending me an invoice!

    Why pay ??

You can watch uk tv for free as follows:

using Firefox, download Media Hint add on:

    https://addons.mozil...don/media-hint/

once installed, just click on the following link for your tv guide....then click on the programme you want to watch and the site automatically connects you to the relevant player (works for bbc player, itv player and ch4 player - but not ch5)

    http://www.televisioncatchup.co.uk/

its very user friendly and free.....

  3. Everyone always talks about the excellent, cheap van service from Udon Thani to Vientiane. But nobody talks about the return service going back to the Udon airport. This is where I've always had problems. Going to Friendship bridge from Udon I paid 200 baht per person. However, going back I was forced to pay 1,500 baht for a different van service, since I never could find the same van service I came to Friendship bridge with. How do you find the same van service for the return trip?

You get a taxi from the bridge into the town at Nongkea to the same company office, then the bus is 150 straight to the airport

When you get your bus from airport to the bridge ask them for the map with there office on.

  4. Hull have just told a colleague of mine on the phone today that 80% certain after July 31st NO CONSULATE will be able to issue Non B visa.

Embassies only will be able to at their discretion under special circumstances, instead all B visas will be issued at local immigration centre only (who of course will need to see all the relevant personal Tax & Social security payments are being made)

Hull is waiting for clarification next week.

    Hi Richard

Yet another potential snag! It is "80% likely" that the Thai Consulates will not be able to issue Non Immigrant B Visas as of 31 July 2013. They MAY from the Embassy in London but you need to go in person with:

    1. Work Permit and photocopy of every page
    2. Passport and photocopy of every page
    3. ALL company registration documents and company affidavit
    4. Company tax document

    Thanks

  5. By the way, Iran is an "Islamic Republic" not a democracy.

If you want to split hairs, the USA is also a republic, not a democracy. In fact, I can't think of a true democracy in the last 1000 years, unless you count the Knights of the Round Table.

The High Court of Tynwald is the parliament of the Isle of Man and has an unlimited, but not necessarily exclusive, legislative competence.Tynwald is of Norse origin and over 1,000 years old, and is thus the oldest parliament in the world with an unbroken existence.

  6. I have work contact with many expats re various things including visa's.

2 different people have now told me that NongKai now say 4 stamps only and 1 was told not to come back.

If your living here then you do need to get a visa, even if a double entry Tourist visa, clearly a 15 day stamp is not a visa.

Re the other post, my experience there is Baht no longer accepted and you must have Dollars

    Cheers

  7. Firstly, sadly there are several major inaccuracies to the original
post which If I may (As I was there from before the start to well after 95% of
    attendees had left.

Your very first line for a start, it was a Wine tasting with
Buffet (The official CeC Mailings stated Finger Buffet in the message header)
and further invites where changed again, therefore under standard English grammar
the emphasis was on the Wine and not the food.

Yes with hind sight “Buffet” perhaps should not have been mentioned. But even so, it did not say anywhere “eat all
you can eat” Dave provided 1200 items for 100 people.

The invites clearly said places where limited and the limit
was 100, in the end 111 arrived, but even so that is still 10.8 items from the
excellent range of appetizers that Dave and his staff provided for each person.

Add to that 5 glasses of wine (I note you say you only had
three, there was plenty for all and only one wine ran out and even that was
after the allotted closing time of 9pm, if you had a ticket, you had a glass of
wine simple as that, if choice one was not available then then one of the other
    three where substituted.

Given the quality of the wine and the food provided I feel
the price of 450/500 was exceptional value.

And as for speaking to “few different workers” the event was
not organized by the Rivermarket and perhaps you should have spoken to one of
the organizers at 7:30 instead of writing about it at 11:30 when no one can do
    anything about it.

I have personally organized and been to many events at the
Rivermarket and have to say the service was excellent as always.

Overall it was a superb evening at a great location and
enjoyed by nearly everyone that went.

    A Happy Taster.

  8. I'd guess that this scam doesn't kick much money back to the local police, probably not enough for them to really throw their weight behind the scammers. And it's probably a hassle for them to deal with, because business operators have many ways to resist, as the OP's story depicts. Anyway, it's this kind of nonsense--petty thuggery in the name of the law-- that keeps Thailand from evolving.

Petty Thuggery at a minimum of 10,000 and more usualy 20,000 to 30,000!

  10. Since you have property your local loan shark will be able to help, probably at a rate of 2-4% per month.

Wifey should be able to find out who to talk to.

Thanks for input. She is having trouble finding a loan shark in Chiang Mai...any contacts would be appreciated!

    DON'T DO IT

It will probably cost more like 20% a month and Sadly I know through experience with my EX Partner.

There are ways without using ANY loan shark

    Feel free to pm me

  11. ya this is informative but i'm not sure if it is correct outside Chang Mai.

i have heard from many sources that volunteer work does not violate the Alien Work Act.

you cannot do work that a Thai can get paid for. Thai's don't do volunteer work.

    Your many sources are incorrect.

You CAN NOT volunteer or do any kind of "work" without a work permit

It's clear as day even if it is daft

    Richard
