Ok, so when I "leave work" my extension is canceled and I must leave the country, correct
So a re-entry tm8 is no good for me as my original 3 month visa has run out and I will get a 15 day at Mae Sai if I drive up there.
Or can apply for Non O in Vientienne which I can also drive to
Sorry if the answers are all here already, but am just trying to make sure I get it right.
Again, thanks for your help

My visa is valid (single entry) until sep 2010, and not an extension, does that mean I do not have to leave ?
I very much doubt that you have a single entry valid until Sept.2010. There is no such thing.
Doh, your right,
I got a single entry Non-b from KL in July and an extension to stay on Sep30 until 30 Sep 2010
I still have wp so technically, I could finish work early next week and get re-entry first
Clear as mud really,
Cheers

If you have a Non B Visa it is still valid if you finish work.
If you have an extension of stay you have to leave on the day your job finishes or apply for a 7 day extension.
The TM8 form for the Re Entry Permit is Here
Thanks for the prompt response,

I have a Non-B visa but have just left my current position, so need to leave the kingdom within 7 days I believe.
Or is that from when I get the letter back from wp people canceling it.
Also is the re-entry form online anywhere to print off
Finally will any border do, ie Mae Sai

Just visiting Chiang Mai for Loy Krathong and what an amazing sight the 'balloons are.
Anyhow I was hungry and found a Brit pub called the Old Bell – recommend the ham bacon and eggs as great nosh – and hear this – on Mondays the Guinness is only 150 Baht a pint – heaven
Tapped or canned?
What else is on the menu?
Cannes is in France!!
Only on Tap in here
And Probably the best Liver n Mash in town

Yes there is a service on November 11th at the foreign cemetery in Chiang Mia.
The recently formed sub branch of The Royal British Legion local headquarters is at the Old Bell, Loi Kroh road.
Also, for your info they have a social meeting there every first & third Wednesday night from 7pm.
If you come along this week no doubt they will be able to give you all the details.

Presumably, this is the same set up as the "music police"
IE No paperwork,no warrant,no receipt for the fine etc etc
Keep a camera charged and see how fast they run (cos the music police can sure move when a camera starts flashing )

Nobody seems to be mentioning pricing anywhere, so here's my ten penneth!
Cracked a lower molar beginning of the month, and as was well under the gum only real choice has to oik it out.
waited just under an hour (was 5pm Saturday) as a walk in and then had the offending tooth removed which took her 90 minutes because A; the little bu**er didn't want to come out and B; I am not the best customer for them after childhood horrors with dentist.
Well happy now and the price including medicines and repeat visit for stitches out etc was 600 baht.

Considerably more than 3 bars have been "visited"
They have been around 3 different times now in the last 3 months in our Soi alone,
In our Soi (the wife runs a small place) they have "fined" at least 6 places a minimum of 12,000 baht each with some paying 30,000 baht.
some have even been targeted twice.
This was after one place being asked for 100K!! when told did not have that amount of cash they were invited to use the atm, the card limit was 30,000 baht,
I will let you all guess what the fine was in the end!!
Last time around (we were fine as I purchased a license from 1stop, e mail me for details if you need them) one place hit for the second time did indeed get upset and started taking photos.
The licence people in Bangkok would also like to know who these "police" are as they know nothing about them and quite obviously do not see any of the "fines" that have been collected.
There official advice is simple.
A: They should have official id
B; They will have a letter from the licensing company explaining the visit.
C; ALWAYS keep a camera ready (with batteries!!, sorry jeff ) especially if you see a Black Fortuner with Chiang Mai Plate 9097
D; do be polite
As soon as the cameras started rolling they will indeed scarper.
I did also send full details to the Chiang Mai Mail but they to date have shown no interest in this story at all.
Cheers

Well here is my ten penneth!!
I like the Olde Bell, Loi Kroh, proper British pub with good food and good company
If feeling like some music, then it has to be 'The Guitarman" Have only been on the Saturday night when anyone who plays can jam but its always been good.
Just do not go there to talk to anyone, the music is just too good

You can get a single entry if you have a WP3 (work permit receipt) plus all the other required documents.
Same as original poster, I am driving to vientiane next month and will have WP3.
Anyone else been to location and got Non B ok?

The Royal British Legion is currently holding a social evening once a month (1st wednesday)here in Chiang Mai.
Besides just being a social gathering, we are currently trying to find any local ex-service personel in order to help with the work of the Royal British Legion and also to prepare for the local remembrance activities in November.
For more information please e mail me at

Looking to rent a motorbike on a monthly basis. I have asked at a few places and have got widely varying prices. Just wondering if anyone else has experience with this and could let me know what they paid and where and stuff.
Also looking to buy a proper motorbike helmet as well. Is there a place that specializes in them?
Thanks
There is a bike gear shop in Pantip Plaza where you can get a proper helmet.
Last time I was past they had an Aria in stock (I brought my Shoei with me)
One word of advice, I appreciate any helmet is better than none
BUT, how much is your head worth?
Please, ALWAYS wear your helmet and when buying one follow two simple rules.
1, make sure it fits properly or it will simply fall of before it does it's job especially if NOT EVEN DONE UP.
2, buy the most expensive helmet you can afford, because one day it may save your life

Nope your wrong it cost me 900 baht on top of what the bike cost me, the bike was brand new zero miles on it i got the receipt for the 900 baht absolutely not 60,000 baht the bike is completely legal
I was also quoted 1500 Baht for reg & basic insurance for the new Kawasaki ER-6N they are sellling.
(Good value as well, 225,000 for brand new 650cc bike)

I have to get a new Visa on or around July 1st,
Currently have Non B Multi from UK, and am now on the last 90 days after work permit cancelled from previous employer.
Will have letter from new employer but not applied for w/p yet.
As Fiancee has family in Roi Et am planning 10 day driving trip from Chiang Mai.
Has anyone driven to Vientiane lately?
Is it possible to leave car in Thailand (safely)and cross border with Fiancee for 2 days to sort Visa?
Will have gps so finding places in Thailand not really a problem.
Have noted pages & pages of advice here on "TV" but not much lately or relating to driving.
Thanks in advance
Richard

"On enquiry you to can have a Nano for US$5,000 landed... "
Where?
Would it be possible to legalise it with registration etc
It HAS to be considerably safer than my 120cc 2 stroke and the daughters Yam 125 Scooter.
And I am one of them poor "farang" who can not afford the huge price of new cars here, even the Proton Savvy is 400,000 baht

Watch this get removed.
There is no freedom of press or media here.
Well the interview with mr t was on bbc news24 last night and he said he was not behind all the unrest and that he was not paying for it.
So now we know the truth!
NOT!

Be a good boy scout and have a plan b, then you will be fine.
Instead of bkk why not try Chiang Mai, full on Songkran party up here right now, the red shirts had a rally the other day, but no problem now, seems like they all went to Bangkok
