  1. When I used to live in Pattaya I saw the Russian girls and only a few times was ever tempted. They do get used up very quickly and the thought of me being on her after a bus full of Indians or Arab guys turns my stomach. Tell me I be raciss if you want but its true and yes I've seen the Uzbek girls make deals with and walk towards cheap hotels with a dozen Indian guys at once. Its also very difficult to tell them no and walk away without them saying something rude or spitting on your or throwing a lit cigarette at you or something else.

There was a working girl (Thai) who used to talk to me every time I went back to my apartment and each time it was a little game. She'd offer to come home with me and I'd kiss her hand and say something like "Oh my darling I can't because...." and there you go. Face saved. Never took her home but she was never offended or spat or did all the other things the Uzbek girls normally did. Don't bother trying to be nice to the Russian girls if your answer is no. Best stategy is to just say it deadpan and keep walking. No charm or style at all I can't say I feel much remorse for their removal. Had I need for such I would definitely choose a Thai girl - more class and infintely sweeter.

  2. Thanks - I did take the coins out and there wasn't a problem. They showed up like a sore thumb on the scanner of course but customs and security was fine with it, much more polite that I expected. They identified my bag and asked who it belonged too and I said it was mine. The agent politely asked what was inside and I told the truth - '140 one ounce silver coins - mostly Chinese panda coins'. I did say I wanted to sell them in Thailand but couldn't get the price I wanted which was also true. He brought my bag over to a table and asked me to open it - in the U.S. they would have taken a razor to it and ruined the bag and of course been very rude and intimidating. So I opened it up, showed him the coins, told him the approx. price in U.S. dollars (~$3,000) and no issue.

I actually had more of an issue (if you can call it that) when I brought them into China although they were very polite and accomodating as well. There wasn't any problem per say they just looked at them longer and made a little note on a form. On both ends there was never the sense that I was going to lose anything to graft or a bribe. I was most relieved.

  3. Having lived in Jomtien for several years...and having a propensity for an enjoyable massage at least once per week...I can tell you from experience that at least half of the massage parlors I went to were fronts for prostitution...some girls even seemed offended if you actually told them you needed a massage first...and talk about the other later...

One soi full of massage parlors in Pattaya City specializes in oral...

Jomtien soi X has attractive young women that all specialize in oral...

So I do not believe one must go "undercover" to expose prostitution in the Pattaya...Jomtien area...

Condo massage parlor...prostitution against the rules...yet they will go to your room to give a massage...;and strip off their clothing before saying hello...

Soi X is that Soi 10?

    It was... in ancient Rome.

To the innumerable posters who have written every possible version of tongue-in-cheek "OMG, prostitution in Pattaya ? I am soooo shocked"... it was funny the first 2 times, but when you reach post #50 it gets kind of repetitive...

I suppose you write your posts in the hope that they will be read ? If so then why don't you read other posts as well ?

It was funny the first few times whereas yours wasn't at all. How boring.

  4. Prostitution?!? In Pattaya of all places?!? I can't believe it. Someone actually accepted money in exchange for sexual services?!?!... I am shocked SHOCKED I TELL YOU. Having lived in Pattaya for close to a year several years back the news of this just stuns me. When a good, family centered city such as Pattaya loses the innate puritanical center it was built upon we all lose out. Personally, I don't see how the city can recover from this scandal. If Pattaya ever became famous for something like this I believe it would ruin its international image. Ugh... I can't believe how upset this has made me. I think I will write a letter to the pope. sick.gif

  5. Hello,

I've been teaching in China for several years but my first stop from the West was Thailand. My brother lives here and because I didn't know if I was going to stay or not I left a book of 140 one ounce silver coins in his safe. When I arrived there was literally no one at the customs desk (it was late at night) so there was no other option save 'nothing to declare'. The whole lot is worth about $3,000 U.S. now and consists of mostly Chinese panda silver coins, and about 20 U.S. silver eagles with a few Austrian silver coins mixed in.

I am leaving on the 27th August and would like to take these with me. I remember asking a long time ago about this and most of the comments indicated the security people would treat my coins as a 'nice gift' for themselves. Is there any paperwork I could obtain BEFORE I get to the airport to prevent that possibility?

    thanks!

  6. A good idea in some respects. It also enables Big Brother to know where you are.

^ Indeed.....Indeed. Big brother wants to know all....

Thank You but I will pass.

Who cares what they know unless you have something to be afraid of ?

Yes and why would you be afraid unless you owe alimony, child support, back taxes, estimated taxes, student loans, customs duty, have a warrant, might have a warrant in a similar name, be mistaken for someone who has a warrant, owes back property taxes, owes back medical bills, owes a debt to a court, has a similar name to someone who might owe a debt to a court, are considered a "terrorist" because you accidently put leaves into the yard of someone who works for homeland security, the FBI, the NSA, the NRO, or the TSA, or someone on the "no fly list" or someone who could have his/her passport denied, detained, or encumbered for ANY reason conceivable by any reason thought up by ANY bureaucrat by ANY reason. Indeed why would anyone have reason to question this? How stupid are you exactly?

  7. Before I came I had to have a wisdom tooth pulled and I got a prescription for Tylenol with codeine. I am now looking at having the other side done but I noticed none of the pharmacies carry this, just various and sundry ibuprofen. I called up my dentist and I am arranging to have something shipped from the states but it is going to cost a good bit. Is there something I am missing?

  8. Hi there,

I have a some gold coins I would like to sell but given what I have read people only want Thai gold bars? I haven't approached any of the goldsmiths I have seen in Pattaya yet and as a farang I of course would like to avoid the automatic farang discount of gold price minus 50% :o I have a Pandas and Canadian Maple Leafs. Any advice on this would be appreciated. I am in Pattaya so if we could stick to that area this would be helpful.

    thanks!

  9. I am going to be going to Thailand for a year to learn to speak Thai and will be traveling on a student visa. Everything I own (not much) is going with me but I do have a book of bullion coins I have managed to collect over the years. These are modern 1 ounce gold/silver coins and are mix, from various countries, and I wanted to find out what if any problems I would have with this.

I don't intend to do much with them other than lock them up once there. If I went to the Thai embassy here (U.K.) first to get paperwork would this help? Do not relish the thought of this being taxed/seized.

    thanks!
