I can confirm now after applying, mothers birth certificates is definitely needed. We also had to make an appointment another day to apply again, as we didn't have the Wife's name change certificate. You said you provided two? Was one for a forename change and another for surname? We only supplied one, which was for a forename change. We didn't supply one for her Surname change to mine. Is there such a thing, the Mrs didn't seem to think so, and the officer did mention it?

I recently counter signed a friends passport, although was worried as my profession wasn't on the list - Head of Marketing Dept, although not at a vat registered company. However it was processed fine, perhaps more relaxed as done from overseas?

VFS Global, the company that processes Visa and passport applications on behalf of the UK government. Are the original docs sent to UK, or are they returned at the time of application?

Does anybody know if they keep all the original docs, including parents passports? I also need to apply for wife's UK Visa, and wondering if we can apply at the same time? However, If they keep some of the original socs from Passport application, not sure if that's possible?

Great thanks. Did you supply Mother's Birth Certificate? I think parents Birth Certificate may only be needed for the British parent/s, but not sure. Did you provide anything that had your name and your address, or anything that proves your residence status in Thailand?

Depends where you have sent it to and from? You may have already paid tax on it, you may be liable to pay tax on it.
