  1. Thanks Robert! May your pigs grow fat and juicy!

I drove past the shop today. The name is Auto Concrete Sales. They have different branches in Kalasin and Sarakham provinces. I couldn't find a webpage from them. But when you drive from Yang Talat over Kantarawichai to Sarahkam, the shop is about half way between Kantarawichai and Sarakham.

    hope this helps.

  2. I paid 1740 per cube for 210 KSC in Kalasin last week. Ordered a total of 85 cube.

You should do a lot shopping around. I had quotes starting at 2000 baht first.

85 cubic metres is a lot of concrete and will require a lot of people to manage when pouring- what are you building?

building a pig farm in Kalasin. This was just the concrete for the floor.

Hi Robert. I'm 11km out from Kalasin towards Lam Pao Dam and will need con rete in a few days. Can you tell me where you bought your concrete and how they proved the 210 ksc?

  3. If you have not signed a contract yet I would renegotiate that you only pay the builder a fee for his labour and tools. Buy all the materials yourself and save alot of money. Very easy these days with massive home building supplies all over the place. And you get what you pay for this way.

If you pay by the square metre the builder will cheap out on materials and pocket the profits.

We have build 3 houses this way and always shocked at how much more others have paid that for a house when paying the builder for an all inclusive.

  4. A rat or mouse has gnawed a hole (a little smaller than a tennis ball) in the liner of my new wildtrak! Anyone have experience with bed liner repair? The liner has a 1-2" gap between bed and liner where it needs repair. I want a professional fix not something Mickey Mouse.

  5. As usual, a lot of TV members are electricians. coffee1.gif

    RIP Little One...........sad.png

Many are and many others well understand basic electrics - sufficient to make reasonably informed comments.

Absolutely right. There are many on here that have electrical knowledge. I don't have much although my father was one but it doesn't require much knowledge to understand basic electrics and the reason for earthing.

I wonder what people really understand about earthing as opposed to equipotential bonding.

Anyway blame the plumber....all these electrical leaks...running down the footpath....getting in the drains.

Earthing and grounding are indeed the correct terms. As the the metal casing must be grounded/earthed.

For equipotential bonding there would have to be metal grating installed on the sidewalk and grass around the machine which is equipotentially bonded to the ATM machine casing which is grounded/earthed.

  6. There is a waterpark that is around 3 years old right close to Makro but on the opposite side of street. Took the family there this past weekend and it was good. The kids loved it and I had fun too. There are several different pool depths and water slides. We got diarrhea from the food though. 50B per person. Chairs supplied. Not sure the name but look for a huge sign with a splash of water in blue with a white background. Proper swimwear only. The Chinese owner scolded a foreigner wearing a soccer jersey in the pool.

  7. No dealer is going to give you a 50% discount on those accessories. also I don't think Ford do a snorkel and car cover as an accessory so you will need to source those from a 3rd party.

They show one in the back of my brochure. Probably way overpriced. I asked about the stainless steel roll bar at the CM Ford dealer. I laughed when he quoted the price, & even the salesman thought it best to look at accessory shops. Not surprisingly, Ford didn't have any in stock, & yet to see one on a Ranger.

To my surprise the snorkel is 18,500B! At that price I might as well order an ARB safari snorkel.

  8. Are authentic dealer accessories prices jacked up for big profits like in North America?

I want to buy a 3.2 wildtrak 2015 financed over 4 years. It comes with the usual freebies ( 1st class ins, window film, mats, box liner, etc) for a slightly elevated interest rate of 3.85% with 25% down payment.

This was their offer so I am thinking I could get better. I want authentic accessories like bug deflector, snorkel, window rain guards, car cover for 50% off the standard price. I plan to stand firm on the accessory discount. Do you think they will accept? Or can I do even better?

  9. if it is sportbike, it has to be very tight especially at the time you buy it still, it cannot be short on arms. legs etc. It will be quarter or half size bigger but not like leather as stated, leather gets larger more over the time.
When you wear it, you need to feel like in a glove, it needs to feel claustrophobic and uncomfortable.
Never get a comfy size if it is sportbike as it will stretch over time a little and will not be safe anymore as if the gear is larger size than your body and moves around your torso, arms, legs etc, it means during an accident, protectors move around too and will not do their job and even cut and damage your body!
all that matter is gear holding its place tight in every situation for sportbikes.
But for other style of ride or bikes, such as enduro or trail, then different gear for different purposes.

Moreover, sizes here are not all European. For example, all Komine's at Paddock has Japanese sizes so you need to get 2xl instead of xl. be careful for that.
    good luck.

Thanks for all the helpful replies! I definitely felt claustrophobic and uncomfortable in the XL jacket and pants (Japanese sizes I would imagine). But at the same time thought it would be necessary to keep the protection in place. Thanks for the confirmation.
RubberSideDown mentioned that the bottom of the jacket should be at the belt line. The jacket that fit snug ended at the top of the belt line. Is that a reasonable compromise to have the jacket fit tight? They don't have any gear that zips pant and jacket together. So if I do go to Bangkok (unlikely), where should a tall slim guy go? And why the heck is all the gear black?
Also, boot fit didn't get touched on. Should the sidi boots fit tight on the toes or comfortable like normal boots?
  10. I've been reading through "Do you wear motorcycle protection and does it really help?" with much interest. But it is not mentioned how this gear should fit.
I am interested in buying the ninja 300 abs bike. I'm a novice rider and need some advice.

So I was tryIng on the textile gear that they sell in the big bike Kawa dealer in Khon Kaen (didn't get the gear brand) and I realized I don't know how it should fit. I would think that it should be snug to keep the protection in the right places. I'm 6'1" and 170lbs and the XL pants were a struggle to put on and I had to suck my gut in to get them in. When I upsized the knee pads were a little sloppy yet they were comfortable around my waist. The 2 XL jacket seemed a good fit although a little loose in the elbows and the bottom of the jacket seemed to be so high that I was always wanting to pull it down and was loose around the forearms yet tight in the shoulders. The boots felt snug in the toes. So how tight should jacket and pants be? How low should the bottom of the jacket be? And should the boots fit like normal boots in the toes? Do I need to find a different brand that caters to tall slim guys? Should I be buying gauntlet gloves or just wrist length riding gloves?
Pardon my ignorance, thanks for any help.
  11. Because if all the doors and windows are closed you will suffocate.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

This is truly the reason why the Thais that I know open the windows when it is hotter outside than in. Same as in the car. Try turning the fan off in the car when it would comfortable without a/c and wait to see how long it takes her to complain she can't breathe.

  12. I have to wonder with SteveB2's experience with the official refusing his application and the same agent the following year stating that next years requirements will be tougher and more expensive. And also his friends app and many others taking so long. Was this a fact stated by the agent or possibly just bait on a hook looking to catch a "tip".

Could it be that one has to provide a "donation" to ensure proper attention to ones application? I know from my wife selling land in the past that if you don't provide a "donation" the surveyors (or whatever they are) take their sweet arse time (months) before they show up to check everything for title transfer. She was told frankly that if we don't donate we will be a waiting. Took about 14 months before they finally came around. If we had donated it would have been much sooner.

Also if it is true that the majority of applicants are Chinese and Indians they will already be familiar with this scenario as standard operating procedure. Would be interesting to hear feedback in the theory from those who have been involved with the PR process.

Or would providing a "tip" be much more risky than is commonly practiced with other departments?

  13. I did not expect so many nasty comments on this topic.

So today I went to Phuket town, to the restaurant I usually go to at lunch.

Owned and operated by a nice thai couple, who also have a wonderful child.

They hire staff to work at the restaurant, Burmese she told me before.

She had a burmese worker some 2 months ago, who went back home, to come back and try working at different restautants. The lady owner told me she was a bit sad about losing her employee.

So she finally got a new one. I asked her where she can find burmese workers.. She told me she went to the town market and asked around, And someone was referred. A burmese lady, raised mostly in Thailand, so she speaks thai. She has two burmese staff now.

Today, because of this topic I read this morning, I asked her why she hires burmese people instead of Thais.

She said that Thais want to work in an office, for arounf 9,000 bahts a month.

She told me she needs two staff, at 7,500 bahts a month, plus tips. They also have a room to stay, and free food...Thai ladies she told me do not want these jobs, and typically work in a restaurant, when owned by the family, generally I suppose.

The two burmese she has working look very happy, and she says another one wants to work in her restaurant, but she has money to pay only for two.

For all I know, their life is better taking such a job...

Well said sir! It is a shame that the genuine desire of the OP has attracted all the trolls.

We have employed Thai maids for years and have had so much difficulty in finding a reliable, consistent, person with a good work ethic. So difficult that after 8 years we've given up and are also looking for Burmese or Lao maids. Thanks to the OP for bringing this up, hopefully there are constructive replies in the future. We would much rather employ a Thai for several reasons but simply cannot find someone suitable.

Not sure why paying the going rate for housekeeping and slavery go hand in hand for some members. We pay more than many labour based jobs and still cannot find a consistent maid. So many just want to push the dust around with the broom all day between frequent breaks, show up late, go home early, steal your belongings, skip days of work. I had thought there would be appreciation for having a relatively well paying job close to home but there just isn't.

"Well do it yourself then" they say. What is wrong with creating a job for someone and giving them an income for their family? A decade ago at the work camps I live in while working in Canada nobody cleared the meal trays from the table. Because we are lazy? Some, maybe. But the majority leave the tray because it creates a job for another. A few years back the non-union worker camps started clearing their own meal trays. Guess what happened to the workers that were responsible to clear the trays? Out of work, of course. I just don't get it.

Dream on for those who say treat them with respect and they'll do the same. Obviously those repeating this mantra have never employed anyone in this country. You still need good people to start off with. And as mentioned many Thais are no longer interested in this work and other "low level" labour. But they are shooting themselves in the foot as more and more immigrants are taking these jobs and they will not get them back.

All the best to the OP in his search. If you find a reliable source be sure to post again.

  14. Thanks for the response. Definitely not termites. Nor is it plant debris from a taller neighbouring plant. It is some sort of worm or caterpillar. MIL says it will grow drastically. Not a good thing for the palm tree I would think. I've attached a photo but there is no macro setting on the phone.
