  1. The original spending outlay was Bt7.7 billion, but the Navy agreed to cut the price after vetting by a panel formed by Defence Minister Yuthasak Sasiprapha.

The "navy agreed to cut the price"? .....Now that raises questions. Another slip of the tongue lets out a bit more of the truth in the pricing of these overpriced projects. Wonder whose share of the loot got cut? :whistling:

  2. Funny you bring this up when I was doing some reading up on fuels.

If you say you noticed an improvement in performance it's up to you whether to carry on using it.

Diesel engines run well with a CN from 40 to 55 there is no performance or emission advantage when the CN is raised past approximately 55; after this point, the fuel's performance hits a plateau.

Bio-diesels have been recorded as having a cetane number range of 46 to 52.

Seeing as it is suppose to be very difficult to get measurements.

I would imagine that say PTT diesel would be within the range of the said 40 - 55 I would also say it would vary.

Anyway ask em !! link below.:)

If you get an answer I bet it's 55.

     Thanks

  3. Does anyone know the CN for the various types of diesel sold at the pumps in Thailand? I'm wondering if it's worth using a diesel booster in my 3 litre. If the CN is up around 50-55 I'd guess it wouldn't be worth it. I did try out a bottle recently and it seemed there was a difference - smoother, and quicker response.

  4. I'm going to order a Kindle, but can't decide whether to go for the 6inch screen or the bigger Kindle DX. I admit I tend toward the bigger screen (my eyes are getting older) but it is a lot more expensive and I have horrors of going to sleep reading and having it fall off the bed onto the floor and break. :realangry:

Is the DX worth the extra cost?

I'm really going to miss having an actual book in my hand though - but the nearest even half-way decent bookshop is a full day's trip there and back, and the selection very limited. Stocking up really means going all the way to Bangkok.

I went through the same choice process a few months ago and while I did not actually pick up the various options available in the Kindle line, I opted for the smallest one as the font can be enlarged. I am glad I did as I find holding the device not as easy as a pocket book, but with some practice and adaption, I have come up with a method of holding it in the landscape view with the keys to the left. There are more than enough lines of type in this size and the page turning is so easy, I really can't see why I would want a larger and heavier one. Those who use them for other than reading novels may well have excellent reasons for the largest one for document searches, web site viewing, etc. but for the pure book reader, the smaller one is more than adequate in my view.

Thanks Prothaiexpat. Good comments. Good feedback.

The DX is definitely worth it if you read at home. Only reason for the others is if you need to put it in your pocket.

    Thanks Harrry. Good point.

  7. Just to get back to the main topic. I bought my copy of "A guide to the Birds of Thailand" by Boonsong Lekagul and Philip Round at Asia Books. It also has the names of the birds in Thai.

Any idea if they have them in stock at the moment???

No, sorry. I haven't been down to Bangkok for some months. I bought my copy at the branch in Central City Bang Na. They do usually have a selection of bird books, though.

  9. I have a similar problem in Isan and I recently came across this company in the UK, on the web. They will examine a water sample if you send it and recommend filter systems, which they clearly sell, including big ones for an entire house. I haven't contacted them yet, but it's certainly on my list of things to do. The sediment-heavy water I get through the taps is ruining everything it passes through.

Hi, I checked out the link and I noticed that it is not ultra filtration. Bacteria will not pass through 0.2 micron but the filter it inner core is 1 micron. I noticed that the price is also very high. The main suppliers of water filters in Asia is coming out of Korea. (The ones from China are still not good enough) and they are very good. I am still swearing by the Stiebel Elron Filter which filter down to 0.01 to 0.1 micron. Please note that the water in Isan and other UPC places is probably not as good as in Bangkok so you would be better of with a 10 micron pre filter to prevent the drinking water filter from clogging up to fast. I think Fujika is selling those blocks you can put infront of it.

    Any in BKK no need.

Thanks for the valuable feedback rjhklein. Appreciate your response.

  11. the cops won't like it if the money goes into the machine instead of their pockets ;-)

Police already get a percentage of the "official" fines. They'll just get more of that percentage - but it won't cover the kuay teow.

It also won't stop the brown bombers who set up a roadblock on the Chok Chai - Ubon highway some where before Narng Rong at night and flag over every car because they have a 'dry throat'

  12. I'm looking for some breedable yabbies. I have a hole 3-4 metres deep and many more metres wide, all runoff, a typical farm dam, just begging for a few yabbies (or crawfish, if you must). I want to set them loose, let them grow fat fighting the fish that will inevitably turn up there - and then have a barbie every now and then. I know I can import them but I really don't want to go through the Customs hassle when I do know other people have done this before me. None of the previous posts are current. I'm not looking to farm them for money. I've read the previous posts. All advice appreciated. Please post a reply or PM me if you have something serious to say.
