  1. The best place is Winstons
A new sports-pool club with a very appealing layout and it actually is a real sports bar.

The wide choice of live sports and the beautiful friendly bi lingual staff is a great asset.
There is 1 overhead projector on a large screen & 5 x 55" TV Screens around to cover most major games or matches.
Main events generally go on the overhead screen, staff will try to cater for everyone, generally its first come first serve.
Sitting across the main road from Central Kad Suan Kaew Shopping Mall, Winstons is Big, but warming, its comfortable, very well laid out, clean light and airy.
40 people can be seated at tables, 10 in the VIP corner, and 12 around the bar. There is seating outside available.

There are 2 pool tables, (one American type pool table and the other table standard competition table)
The prices are very reasonable and a nice surprise for such an up market looking place. this suits locals and foreigners.
There is free food every other Saturday, (6pm-9pm)
Plenty of dry parking below the club. There is a very small charge by the authorities, but this can be redeemed at the bar.
There are clean toilets on the premises.

  2. Always get the best you can afford, in saying that if you do go with the slower processor spend the 10k on more memory or 2tb HD or both.

iMac 27" is great you will not be disappointed.

If you need windows you can run parallels and have both at the same time.

Once you have had a Mac you wont go back wai.gif

  3. I have had experience with both samsung and iPhone but not the new galaxy note.

For want ease of use, and more apps than you can shake a stick at go for the iPhone. Always go for the most you can afford for the memory. Its better to have more than not enough. From experience the iPhone is better, but that is just my opinion.

As you have everything all set up with your Mac at home I assume you already have set up your Mac with iCloud?

If so, then every picture you take etc is automatically down loaded from you iPhone to your Mac.

Follow the video tutorial the apple website to get everything run without you doing anything more than follow the simple instructions.

Try the mac care centre in Kad Suan Kaew, They will deal with your question or if they will service iPhone or not. They speak good english.

Ask the ishop as you go into the entrance to KSK and they will tell you how to get there. iPhones are pretty robust but get a good cover for it.

  4. Not to sound like some snotty world-weary propeller-hatted financial analyst, or anything like that....but there is an epic battle going on in Thailand between Serm Suk (the former official bottlers for Pepsi in Thailand) and Pepsico (huge US multinational food and snack conglomerate). The Thai billlionaire owner of Thai Bev (that's right, 3 "l's" in billionaire; he's that wealthy) is basically through proxies taking away the main bottler and distribution channel for Pepsi in Thailand. It's not just the floods- there is a major pissing match going on now with Pepsico, their bottler and distribution arm in Thailand, and the proxy controlled by ThaiBev. Read all about it in the Bangkok Post business section. Old news; switch to Big Cola produced by happy Peruvians, next question ?

    Thanks for the input.biggrin.png

The above quote makes sense and that what I was asking.

I was not particularly bothered about where I can get pepsi. it was just a matter of why do I not have a choice?

I would prefer sprite, rather than coke, or pepsi.

In Saying that, Coke is my only preference IF I had the choice, compared to Pepsi, as Coke does support my Sang Som and Chivas Regal very well, unlike Pepsi, there is no comparison, Coke rules in that department.

    But everyone to their own.

Happy New Year from the Troll.passifier.gif

  5. Has anyone tried to get a Sprite, 7 up, Fanta, Coke in any restaurants, fast food outlets in CM? unsure.png

Its impossible to get anything other than Pepsi. Even Palaad Tawanron, only Pepsi.

Many of these outlets advertise other soft drinks, but they only have Pepsi.

I personally dislike Pepsi to the extent I would rather go without a drink than drink it.

What happened to freedom of choice and is this legal?

I would avoid these places if I could, but there are too many to mention where I enjoy the food.

Can anyone shed light on <deleted> is going on?

  6. K phone in Airport plaza 3rd floor is very good. I had a problem with my screen on max zoom and couldn't resolve it, they fixed it in 2 min and didn't even charge me for it.

The shop I first went to said it will cost me 5000 baht for a new screen and I didn't believe them luckily and on a recommendation went to K phone.

I am not saying they can fix your phone, but if you are going by the attitude and honesty of K phone and for the fact I think u will not get ripped off its worth giving them a try:)

  7. got my shiny Platinum Card, although it is more purple than platinum. Virtutualy no additional benefits, can use the first class lounge, extra 10kgs, miles don't expire. It's invitation only, no criteria are published, but it is clear that economy plebs are not in the running

    I guess I must be a pleb.

I have been gold for years and have flown a mix of pleb class and business.

Not received one and probably will not due to the fact I must be a pleb.blink.gif

  8. Does anyone have any experience with what requirements for Schengen Visa's are based or may be refused for a Thai woman wanting to visit Denmark.I have a Thai friend (Female, mature 50+) who has been invited to Denmark to see her Danish male friend (who she has met in Thailand on numerous occasions) and also a Danish female friend who she has only had contact with by telephone.

My Thai friend is not divorced from her Thai husband but has been separated for many years.

She is planning to applying for a Schengen Visa for Denmark to visit these 2 people.

She has her own business here in Thailand.

She is worried that if she applies she will be refused due the fact she is not divorced.

Also she has no proof of contact with the female friend she has not met, but would like to visit her before she dies.

Either of the 2 friends are willing to sponsor her and support her the duration of the month she intends to visit them.

If anyone has some advice on the above matter it will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  9. You will be able to use it anywhere in the world as long as you brought the UNLOCKED version. :whistling:

Just go to the local provider in the country you are in and ask for a pay as you go sim card for the iPhone 4 and they should supply it.

As for what provider is best I am sorry can’t help you there.

I have used my unlocked iPhone 4 all over the world (except USA) but I am sure you will be fine. Others who have will I am sure point you in the right direction.;)

If you have not got the unlocked iPhone 4 then you’re pretty much stuffed.:ermm:

    hope that helps

  10. Does anyone know what is going on with AIS and 3BB?

I have read over the past 2 days about services by both party's being cut or stopped or shutting down services?

I have 6mb ADSL basic package with 3BB as I heard that any other is not worth the extra. With AIS I have the home router with 30gb download limit.

If they are being stopped or what ever then what is the best option to go for?

I use both as sometimes one is better than the other and 3bb seems to be less hard on surfing to adult sites.

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

  11. Highly recommend Warm up. You can also try Hotshotts that has some good western and Thai live music and with some good disco during intervals. But thats more of a pick up joint when the bars in loi kroh close as is Spicy.

Another recommendation is The living room, near Spicy, nice and relaxed and you may hit there with some uni girls or some working girls but also has some tourist girls that go there.

There is the diplomat that is totally thai but you may be lucky.

Everyone has already remarked on a lot of good places and venues

    Good luck.

  12. Everyone basically has said he right thing, and put very well. What did you expect with a comment like that with no explanation.

They are not jumping on your back about your comment. We are justifying that you made a very vague comment, although we respect your opinion on your first day.

We are just very protective of our Chiang Mai and we all have our own reasons for loving it.

You should have elaborated in the first post your expectations and as you have later.

I will be very surprised if you would like Bangkok. (Unless Nana Plaza is your forte)

There are many tut tuts here that you can take instead worrying about a motor bike, haggle the price for where you want to go, some drivers take advantage with Farang's

It may be cheaper to consider getting an air con cab with a meter or as suggested do a tour.

Pai is supposed to be very nice and as yet I have never got to go there as I am still discovering Chiang Mai (ive been here 4 years)

So please post your comments about Pai when you get to go..jap.gif

  13. Yep, I'll agree with all the above, get the 2tb hd and the best you can afford.

Again just wait a few months for the new one to come out.

You wont be disappointed with the Mac, you'll never go back.

If you do want to run windows, get parallels and you can run them together should you need.

I have apple icare but never needed it, but you never know.

I also ordered my machine 27"imac from a mac service Centre, they said delivery within 30 days as I configured it the best I could afford.

    It arrived in a week.

The ram can be changed anytime so you don't need to buy that all now but if you can all well and good.

  14. Hi,

I have an I phone 4, brought in Thailand. I use DTAC.

    DTAC do not use 3G,

AIS do, you have to make sure you have an GSM advance sim card as I believe 12call do not cover 3G.

You will have to go to the AIS Telewiz shop and ask them.

I use AIS Advance for my home router from AIS.

The problem is there are only certain area's that are covered with 3G. Again ask AIS.

You can go to any operator, AIS, depending who you are with and they will give you a mini sim, for free for the iphone 4.

Once you have your 3G mini sim, you also must ensure that 3G is enabled on your iphone 4.

    Settings-General-Network-enable 3G.

Basically, go to to AIS and ask them the questions you asked here and they will help you out.

Take an interpreter with you if want to be sure your getting answered correct.

    Hope this helps a bit,
