If you got married outside of Thailand you have to register your foreign marriage at an Amphoe to get a Kor Ror 22 marriage registry that immigration requires to apply for a one year extension of stay.

Thanks Joe, now I'll look for a thread on doing that. No doubt by the time I arrive in early November both HCMC and Savannakhet will have gone on line????.

I obtained a Non-O visa based on marriage to a Thai in July - absolutely no problems. Do not apply on a Monday or a thursday due to the visa run packages. No request for bank details. Documents required:

    1. Visa application form duly completed and 5,000 Baht.

    2. 2 x Passport photos.

    3.A. A valid passport.

3.B. A copy of your main passport page which you should sign.

    4. Original marriage certificate which they will return immediately on application.

    5. Copy of marriage certificate - I and my wife countersign on the back of the copy.

    6. Copy of the wife's house book which she signs in Thai.

    7. Copy of the wife's Thai ID which she signs in Thai.

In addition, I always include a copy of the wife's passport page which she signs in Thai.

No request for proof of funds.

I turned up 10 minutes before the gate closed thus missing the early morning rush. Next afternoon I turned up approx 2.30 p.m. no one else around.

    Staff were friendly and cooperative.

There is a copy shop across from the consulate just in case.

Also, the consulate is within walking distance of the town with several hotels. On receiving your passport with visa, you can walk back to the bus station to catch the bus to travel back to Mukdahan, if required.

    Best of luck.

Marriage certificate. Can anyone tell me if this has to be a Thai marriage certificate or do they accept a UK marriage certificate ? Much appreciated,

On Friday, the Royal Gazette published two announcements on marijuana and hemp, effective retroactively on Aug 27.

Anyone that can read the law in the link in the article: please tell us what is going on? The BKK Post article is not very detailed...

    https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/1740099/authorities-warn-ganja-hemp-still-illegal

The Thai text of the announcement is also not detailed and does not really differ from the link above. Having said that, there is a much better link here where they have explored the meaning of the announcement.

    https://www.bbc.com/thai/thailand-49550483

At the end of the day this is about preparation for separating hemp from marijuana for legal purposes possibly, or possibly not, for licensing. As Sheryl states, anything derived from cannabis is illegal. They have exempted CBD of a certain purity but this exemption only applies to locally made products by licensed producers, when and if licenses are granted. They have confirmed there are no exemptions for imported products so therefore CBD oil is still illegal.

I disagree, I know many who would love to.

Yes, for some of us it makes a lot of sense as we can be dual nationals. Norway, Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia and quite a few others state that if you voluntarily take up citizenship of another country you lose your original citizenship. I suppose if you keep it quiet though.....

  5. Not seeing this anywhere else on TV, too new maybe

A British man died in a fight at a Thai hotel after telling another guest to keep the noise down as his wife and son tried to sleep, his family said.

Amitpal Singh Bajaj, 34, from London, complained about noise from the next room at the five-star Centara Grand Hotel in Phuket.

His family claims a man forced his way into their room via the balcony early on Wednesday and strangled Mr Bajaj.

So it will be a sweeping ban on all mac laptops, I doubt Airlines will have the time to go thru every pc.

Many airports, Heathrow, Beijing etc this will be down to the security staff, so even if you get it out of Swampy it might not be coming back with you. My model is not affected and I don't see a problem in getting it on board with me in Frankfurt next week: it's chances of returning with me from Lagos would be absolutely zero????.

Oh dear !! A little white lie OR a big porkie.

Not going to shift through all these posts. However, a niece works in one of the hospitals (London) that checks patients against a GP registration, beyond A&E they certainly do come down and talk to patients about entitlement. No doubt it will go nationwide. Not saying you would be booted out. However, do think too many expats have been away too long and lost touch with reality about the day to day functioning of the system.

Why Not give Germany special treatment?

    Being Number 1 contributer?

Germany wants the integration and peaceful cooperation of all countries of this earth. Germany pays more for peace than for weapons.

Why the UK cut them self out from the EU Project?

    Independens?

    In an increasingly connected world?

    Then have fun.

Why not give Germany special treatment?

"Germany is a reluctant, but insensitive and incapable dominator, that both uses and ignores the disturbed European balance of power,
This provokes resentments, especially in other Eurozone countries."   Jürgen Habermas. Renowned German philosopher and EU enthusiast.

Germany pays more for peace than for weapons.

True-ish. Your contributions to NATO in the latest period were 1.23 of GDP, Latvia beat that. And most military analysts believe the real figure is far less, most of your planes don't fly for example. Not sure the balance actually goes to peace as as such, but hey ho. Up to you; you are closer to Putin than us and those incredible (empty) motorways the EU built in Poland will make the journey far quicker..

Why the UK cut them self out from the EU Project?

So many reasons. But your first 2 sentences are a good starting point

really? my thai friends are incredibly frustrated and angry about the state of contemporary thai society; exactly as stated in the article they hate way the rich get away with behaving as they want with little or no retribution and feel powerless in the face of the rampant corruption.

and no thais i know who have lived or travelled abroad think thailand is the best country in the world, they are all too aware of the failings in their motherland.

Absolutely. And the fact that there are so few channels to express that anger and frustration without fear of retribution....go figure. I think it comes back to a quote often attributed to Abraham Lincoln:

"You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time."

If that was true in Abe's time I would wager it holds up even more in a time when even those who do not travel access social media for their news, often via VPN's.

Strange article this one. While the poor are definitely statistically over-represented in the road deaths - avoidable things such as not wearing helmets, driving at excessive speed and habitual drink driving does not help their cause. For every poor person who gets mowed down by a rich person in a BMW, I bet there are 100 times more who die in an avoidable manner as a result of their own actions (or inactions).

Absolutely concur that the rich are far less likely to face justice or be punished though.

I would probably agree with you that it's a strange article, if I could read it, which I can't as it's behind a paywall. At least for me it is and incognito browsing doesn't work either.

Also true that the rich are far more likely to escape justice, I just happen to believe that is also true of most countries in most circumstances, just more obvious in Thailand.

  11. This topic has been running for 12 years. The amount of changes during that time must have been many. For anyone new coming to the topic it must be immensely confusing and time consuming where to start. I would have thought that there must have been more than one or two posters willing to post their updated journey, possibly with the assistance of mods so that newbies didn't have to start from the beginning or another random page reading information that was no longer relevant. Or not?

How does a digital image have a physical size ??

What I was trying to say, perhaps unclearly, that the physical size of the photo needs to be taken into account. Most embassy stipulate physical size of the photo to be uploaded, not just a file size. Unfortunately the Thai online Visa does not do this. The net result is that some people have taken a digital photo uploaded it to a computer, cropped it to show what is required for a passport photo and reduced it to a file size of less than 500 kB, unfortunately that often leaves at a physical size that is not accepted. Further annoyance on the Thai online Visa site is that it wrongly rejects such photos as not being a JPEG leading to confusion. Best way is to take the picture and then upload it to an online passport picture generator.
