  1. It will be ready when it is ready!

Not a great way to be treated.

It is about time Visa Requirements for Thais visiting UK were reciprocated.

No, it's about time our Visa requirements for foreigners visiting my country were reciprocated.

    Eg.

Can't work in your country ? can't work in mine

Can't buy property in your country ? Can't buy in mine

Can't receive any benefits or fee hospital............... then can't over here also

2nd class citizen in your country and indigenous come first ........... then same over here

    etc..............

That is what is about time

    Here here :)

  2. However, Prayuth said he will not file a libel charge against Jatuporn given it will only be a waste of the court's time.

That about sums it up. Not worth agitating the red thugs, and anytime Jatuporn opens his mouth, be careful no to be downwind.

This is who the Thai people voted for.....

This is who some of the the Thai people were paid to vote for :P

    What all of them ?

Why are so many people champions of the elitist and even more unfair, corrupt system that was in place before the reds were democratically voted in ?

  3. I will be very happy to see him back.

This government has done nothing for us. I think that corruption is the number 1 problem here from small time street vendors right up to Government officials and Army allowing drugs to come into my country. When they let them in, they get richer. The way to stop or at least begin to stop corruptin in Thailand is to give good salaries and so people can live good life. This way there will be less chance of corruptions. When my childrens come from University they can only get low paying jobs. If children can finish University and get a good job that give them enough money to live a decent life then it will help their journy in life to take the middle path and go away from direction of corruption.

I am 50 year Thai and think government must start with:

    1. Education at International standards for ALL Thai. Not only rich. English language must be good.
    2. Good health care for ALL Thai people.
    3. Thailand MUST have good internet if we want to compete Internationally.
    4. Labor standards to be set so people can be to make good money for future
    5. Stop corruption in Thailand at the same time as raising salaries.
    6. Stop drugs here and even if people need to die. The drug dealers will know a law and if continue then they know have death penalty.
    7. Have better anf fast system set up to help victoms of disasters because it seems to happen more these days.
    8. Make peace with our neighbours even if it mean to give temple rights away in Cambodia and allow access for tourist.

I also have many foreign friend who complain about the visa rules etc so maybe if government can take the fee for visas and apply it direct to Education or war on drugs then the foreigner can feel good about where the visa money goes.

I know in the world all government have corruption but when Thaksin was our PM he did not hide it like many other governments. I can accept this. Maybe if Abhisit have more money and experience he could have done the good job but it is proved that he did not and he have his chance already.

It's good to see that 50-year-old Thais educated enough to have a perfect command of English are empassioned enough about Thai politics to conclusively put down their political thoughts on a first-ever Thavisa post along with a series of suggestions to fix Thailand's problems. Did you know that your bullet points are almost exactly Thaksin's own ideas, word for word? I can see why you would vote for him.

But, hang on, you're saying that corruption is bad, and then you're saying that Thaksin was nice and open about it. You want to get rid of corruption but want the most corrupt guy at the head of your country? That doesn't seem to make sense to me. You talk about drugs and corruption, referencing the army and government. But Thaksin oversaw this whole operation, and he didn't want to change it back then - he just wanted his share. Some might argue that he was kicked out because he wanted more than his share.

And I agree, drug dealers are the scum of the earth. They are all murderers, pimps and rapists and they all deserve to die; it's a myth that the network of drug dealing is full of victims of social circumstances. And those drug mules in particular should be subject to death by genital electrocution. But, hang on, the most recent investigation - you know, the one first shelved by Thaksin and then by the Samak administration - show that less than half of the people killed had any ties whatsoever with the drug industry. Would a collateral damage rate of 60%+ be acceptable to you in the next war on drugs?

You make a lot of interesting points in your post, much like the Quadrangled Prophet himself, but really no indication of how it's going to be executed.

'You want to get rid of corruption but want the most corrupt guy at the head of your country' I thought he was already ? Well Deputy then

  4. Bit of a no brainer really, Abhisit should have renounced his UK connection long before becoming pm.

It's a great campaign leader for PT and the reds, they certainly will not let go.

absolutely - the leader of a country being a citizen of another? what is/was he thinking?

Hmmm, I guess that means the head (Queen Elizabeth) of my country (Canada) should renounce her UK citizenship :o

She is not and has never or ever will claim to be a Canadian citizen ?

  5. It depends really.

He was born in the UK before 1983, which gives him the right to claim UK citizenship, even though both his parents were Thai.

If he's never claimed UK citizenship - i.e. never applied for a passport etc. there's not really much he can give up. He can't go back in time and change where and when he was born.

He doesn't have to 'claim UK citizenship' he was a UK citizen the moment he was born. Therein is the answer, he is a UK citizen

  6. Hi all, Just a little confused as to my options ? Here is the scenario: I am currently on a non 'o' visa (wife is Thai) we have 2 children and she does not wish to return to the UK. Must I return alone to the to get a new non 'o' or can I get new one in neighbouring country ?

I have a small amount of cash monthly, certainly not 100k, more like 30 ! The main problem is I do not want to be apart from the children, and thought was possible to get locally as would obviously be leaving the country. If this is the case, does she need to come with me ? as she was not required to get original one in UK just app form and marriage licence (married in UK).

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  7. If Thailand profess to be civilized, then they should both stop sabre rattling and get down to talks, even after fighting there has to be talks to find the end solution, so why dont they both go to the end game, sit down and talk? If its so important why do they not arrange talks now, even if its just to find out what the other sides position is and what is the minimum they will accept? I guess the main difficulty is the upcoming General Election so let to a bit of prep and sort it out once and for all after the new govt takes its place, the current situation is unacceptable as is fighting, neighbours should sort it out in a civilized way.

Does the headline say "Thailand Threatens to Open Fire on Cambodia"?

No, but neither does it say Thailand will respect the World court ruling of 1962 handing the disputed area to Cambodia.

  8. Do note they also mentioned South Americans. I'm sure among the drunken wasted of life there you will also find quite a few British, Australian and a variety of European mafia operators or other sorts of low lifes.

What surprises me here is that the police actually caught the gang! I wonder if all the stolen items were returned to the owners.

    :D

You forgot the American and Canadian criminals of which there are many too ? I wonder are you possibly American ? lol

  9. Thanks for posting that Webfact, I almost forgot it was Teacher's Day. I think we sometimes forget that there are some real unsung heroes in the profession, who manage to defy the odds and teach underprivileged children in difficult circumstances.

Unfortunately, there are also many teachers who teach by rote and resort to screaming, ranting, raving and even beating children in their clasrooms, churning out under-educated, resentful adolescents whose futures are utterly compromised through lack of a decent, caring, appropriate education. Overall, educatoin in Thailand has a long, long way to go before it can compare with most of its regional neighbours - and by that time it may well be too late for Thailand to compete effectively against those nations with far more effectively educated populations.

Smee, it is sad to say, but you are absolutely correct

  10. Is there such a word/phrase in the Thai language as Environmental Concerns? Why am I not suprised about this report.

rural thai- every street is a tip, countryside is used as a tip, local people try to burn bottles and tins with the rubbish, thinking it will-burn. school education, enforce the law on sugarcane burning, black bits falling from the sky, we call it black snow, again police nowhere-no patrols, not care, dog sh--t everywhere. Kids throwing plastic out of cars-learn from mum. unclean houses and kitchens-outside most houses are like gypsy camps. This is a disaster--Bkk-canals--under the noses of the mayor and officials. Food markets stink, no health checks on sellers. all rivers polluted-so the fish for sale are full of poison. this is last years report-and the years before. No one is doing their job properly-goverment departments are using money allocated on other money making contracts. I live in a rural village, if anyone dissbelieves me then he has blinkers on. It is serious, but like everything reports and a news splash and its forgot. Sustainable-was a word we used in helping other countries-AID- if it wasn't no money was forwarded. This government should follow -sustainable.

How very sad, but unfortunately so very very true, ginjag

  11. To the routine annoyance of people within ear-shot, I can normally talk for England,

but this report, assuming it is totally accurate, makes me speechless with gloom and

    sorrow.

Anyone else having second/third/fourth....thoughts about living in this cruel land ?

(given the endless stream of bad-news....perhaps just stop reading TV altogether.)

And before anyone jumps up with the usual: Bad things happen everywhere, even

in cuddly England...absolutely right....but I bet you cannot come up with any story of

a gang descending on and beating a lone woman for trying to sell a few items of fruit ?

Behind all the gold decor, posing in pastel shirts, and quaint mannerisms, Cruel LOS ?

No your right... this kind of shit just doesn't happen in England or the U.S. ... we are far too civilised for groups of men to be beating the shit out of defenseless women for something as petty as selling goods on someone elses supposed turf.

But doing it for fun..now that's a different matter..

Heres a little selection it took me all of 10 seconds to find...

    http://www.createpea...manmurdered.htm

    http://www.theargus....ver_work_again/

    http://www.topix.com...TNDJ7QUMN101RSI

By all means be disgusted at what happened to this woman...undoubtedly these guys are scum...but don't give it the self righteous 'this shit don't happen back home' nonsense, because it does and far worse...And if you watch some of the documentaries on Chinese cockle pickers on the beaches of England the exact same shit happens ...

Thanks for those links ....to some incredibly mindless violence....these three examples, two American, one Brit, make Phuket seem like a vicar's garden party...

Note too how all the violence has either an economic or a class or a racial dimension...and of course a combination of all three...

What is this world of ours coming to? We human need to take a long hard look at ourselves. Sad.

Mentioned (and correctly so) on page 1 by Naiharn:

'Just looking at the 3 disgusting incidents you quoted I noticed these facts:

"Police arrested Jarell Johnson, 18, and have charged him with King's murder. They are still looking for a second assailant."

"Police arrested three men in Havelock Road after the 9pm attack on Saturday. The rest of the gang ran to their double decker bus to escape but police caught up with them and arrested another three men."

"The bus driver on the No. 27 line quickly called police, who responded and arrested the nine juveniles, said Jawauna Greene, an MTA police spokeswoman. All nine suspects, ages 14 and 15, were arrested and charged with aggravated assault."

Whereas, in Thailand, the police do nothing. Relatives of the victim have to go to Town Hall to demand action, and only when it becomes a media story do the authorities start making promises that the police will actually do something. Pathetic.'

  12. "We want our leaders to be released," opposition lawmaker Jatuporn Prompan told Friday's gathering.

"All the Red Shirts must be released across the country," added Jatuporn, who enjoys parliamentary immunity and is one of the few leaders in the movement not in jail.

A movement which wants democracy might stop first demanding 'release our leaders' before mentioning the common red-shirts in prison (even if they don't mean it).

I think Jatuporn should join his comrades in jail if he thinks they are being treated unfairly

I think possibly the current government too ? quote 'arrest hundreds of suspects and silence anti-government media' Great freedom and democracy ? Hmmm China, North Korea, hang on it's Thailand
