  1. At no point did I put my hands on his camera.

Looking at his video it looks like that is indeed what you were trying to do. You were out of order. <snip>

  2. Hello, as to backpackers, many do have money. I have backpacked all over the world. Not the tourist areas, Canoed the Zambezi river hiked mount Kilimanjaro slept in the Libyan dessert Sahara dessert canoed through the Canadian north country , hiked through the grand canyon to name a few things I have done of many..And I am a backpacker.

To finish of I AM A BACKPACKER they are not all with out money.

Mate if you had the money then you would have got a power boat down the Zambezi, got a helicopter to the top of Kilimanjaro and stayed at a nice hotel in the Libyan desert, you would also have hired a 4by4 to go thru the Canadian north country and done the same for the Grand Canyon. Tell the truth, you're poor. :o

    Just kidding. Well done.

  3. I am sure I am not the only person that have been cheated, but to what extent are they cheating?

They are not cheating. They can charge you what they want for their services, that is the capitalist way. Everyone does it. As they told you you should have asked how much if you were so concerned about the price. 2500 baht is cheap for private hospital treatment.

    Really?

Samitivej in BKK, where we did all the vaccines, never charged more that 1800B.

How much you want it to be "for private hospital treatment"?

Yes really. They are allowed to charge what they want to as is any other business. Just because you and other people do not like what they charge does not mean they are cheating you.

Yeah, in Mad Max movies or in Somalia.

In the real world where you do not seem to live. A business can charge what they like and if you do not like it then shop else where. Easy.

  5. This may appear stupid. But can someone clarify the meaning of the word "NET" in relation to pricing in Thailand. It seems to be used a lot in Thailand and I have never got my head around it. As the terminology is not used in my country.

For example I currently have a quote from a Bangkok Hotel, the Pathumwan Princess -It says that the total cost for 8 nights is Baht 33,428 NET.

I sent another email asking if that includes Tax and Service Charges, the reply came back saying thait it is "NET"

So does "NET" mean plus taxes or including taxes?

    Can anyone help??

    Thanks

net is after taxes. If you look at their website their room rates include all taxes.

  7. Walking through the malls in Pattaya is like going through a ghost town. This new one will be the same when the new effect wears off. Does anyone actually buy anything in these places? I know I have never bought anything in any of them. I am lying there, I once bought an 8 baht ice cream from KFC in Royal garden plaza. :o

  8. My daughter is travelling to Thailand this week for vacation. She is hoping to do some geocaching while there. While talking with customer service at a satellite messenger service (SPOT) they advised my that there is no GPS service in Thailand because of the political situation. Can you tell me if this is so?

    how to reply please ?

How can there be no GPS in Thailand? The Thai government cannot stop it, it comes from an American satellite. If you have the equipment then you can pick up the signal for free. That is my understanding anyway.

  9. I made a decision. And that is to say this forum farewell.

The amount of advertising is getting in the way of what the forum is for (i am not talking about the owner but the users).

On top of that is that every single important topic that would be pinned on any other site disappears on page 50 and further. This last point actually makes me sure this forum is not meant to be informative but more a search till you drop forum (and in this process have the chance to show as much advertisement as possible).

Seeing topics appear again and again is the proof of that. Many posters having good information are tired to provide it every time again.

I will check in once every month to see if something changes for the better, and to see what came of this topic.

    Best wishes for all.

That is how forums tend to work. If every good subject was pinned then you would have to wade thru 50 pages of the pinned stuff before you get to anything else. Advertising is a apart of every forum as well although not really liked it is up to the owners if they want to make money or not. Anybody could run a forum without adverts it is not that expensive to run but the need for money normally transcends that.

  10. xing....

But the story goes on... the woman that administered the test was telling my wife that because my son was so smart, that he should attend "smart class" after school in order to keep him from getting bored...

    .

Is smart class free or would that incur more fees?

  11. Just realized I was responding to an expert n00b that is in Wales and not Thailand .... oh well .. aint the internet a grand thing?

and I have been responding to a guy who thinks that the river Kwai in English is the river Khwae, ain't that a laugh.

again .. let me help you out a bit ... the river's name is Khwae (in any language) ((actually 2 rivers .. the Khwae Yai and the Khwae Noi)) the "bridge" from the book wasn't on said river .... and the bad spelling pronunciation most likely came from poor translation of French to English (and certainly from Thai to English).

But that's enough time wasted on someone not in Thailand and that doesn't know Thailand :o Have fun in Wales :D

Oh and it took you all that time to come up with the actual name of the river Khwae Yai. So you were wrong on the name of the river in English and in Thai as well. Well done. Guess I know more about Thailand than you. Having lived there for 11 years myself and visiting so many times as well.

and also the bridge in the book was also on the Kwai, so you are wrong about that as well.

"The story is based on the building in 1943 of one of the railway bridges over the Khwae Yai at a place called Tamarkan five kilometres from the Thai town of Kanchanaburi."

  13. Cool, I read it. The things I purchased are going to be used in Thailand. Can I just claim it anyway? How would they possibly find out?

You did not read it properly. You have to be leaving the country with the goods to get a refund.

  14. Only one spelling in Thai;
but we are all using English here not Thai

Right ... and the name in Thai transliterated into English is Khwae (not Khwai .. different vowel sound and doesn't mean waterbuffalo in Thai ... blame the Limeys I guess :D

Yes I remember that famous film Bridge on the river Khwae. :o

  15. I met my girlfriend in Bangkok in a shopping plaza and we have been living together for the last 12 months, shes comes from isaan and a poor family.

She is currently going to uni in bangkok and has been paying for that by working at a pizza shop and also getting

a little help from her family.

Since I have been with her I have been helping her and she no longer works at the pizza shop.

We have a really good relationmship there are never any arguments and she speaks well and is very thoughtful much

better than my thai wife of 5 years ago.

When I do something for her she she shows her appreciation and respect. I dont spoil her with gold and lots of

    money and she doesnt ask.

We go everywhere together and enjoy each others company ,she dont smoke but sometimes buys a couple of drinks from 7/11 every couple of months.

A little about my self i am 52 and not to outgoing I am quiet and dont drink or go to bars but i enjoy the company of a nice lady and dont like being alone to much.

The last couple of months she has become very demanding on me and telling me she wants to marry and not just live

    with me.

After knowing and living with her for 12 months i know she wants marriage and the comfort of knowing she can care

    for her parents.

I have recently told her that i have a serious Neurologica illness which is starting to take a grip on me and will

be incapable of caring for myself in the next 1 to 5 yearsand i want to go back home to aus.

I have explained what is involved in taking care of me when i am unable to get around and also showed lots of info

    on the internet about it.

She has offered to take care of me as long as I want, providing she can have enough money to send back to her

family about 6 thousand baht a month.

She also is very aware that we will not be given a lot of extra money while caring for me just normal day to day

    living expenses.

Also if I pass on she asks if i will make sure she is left something in my will or insurance i do own a small

    house.

The way I am thinking is that if some one is willing to care for me 24 hours a day for the next 10 years that they

    should be rewarded.

I do have three grown up children but they wont be able to care for me to much as i they all have work to do and

there is know way i will forget them when i pass as they will also be taken care of.

My girlfriend has made it quite clear that she wants to marry a farang and if its not me she will find some one.

She wants me to marry in her village and pay a very small dowry .

I also realise that it will be very hard at times her caring for me when i get more sick and i think that it is

being very unfair on her but I also know that thais have a reputation for being careing people.

THis is a hard decision to me and I would appreciate honest replys and do expect a few negative ones but what would

you do if you was in this situation stay on your own through a long illness or take somone on there word and trust

    them.

    what would you do ?

I would go back home and forget her if I was you. Although she could be good as her word I think if you take her back to Aus and she becomes a citizens then she will be gone as soon as her new passport hits the floor and I don't blame her.
