  1. I have a valid work permit until 31st March 2017 however immigration will not issue a new non-b extension because we haven't yet received the new teachers' license waiver - 2 years ago no problem but they are now asking for the transcripts and it will take at least 3 weeks to get the problem fixed.

The problem is the visa extension ends of 1st September

Is immigration's approach correct ? We still have valid work permits!

If their approach is correct can I get a 60 day extension by using my children's birth certificates? and then extend again based on working when the teachers license waiver arrives?

    thanks

  2. I remember reading a post on this a few weeks ago but I now can't find it.

I thought a Thai ID card starts with the number 1. What if it starts with a 5?

My cousin is Thai/Malay and she has a Thai passport already -

Does a Thai ID card starting with 5 cause any problems in the future - she is 23 years old

    Many thanks

  3. 1. I read reports that Vientiane just want a Thai police clearance. I understand they check with Interpol for arrest warrants when they do them.

    2. I don't believe the part about registering in Bangkok.is correct. Some confusion there I am sure.

Thanks Ubonjoe - can I ask where did you read about Vientienne asking for a Thai police clearance report - at the moment for some reason their website is in Thai only but a friend translated it and he said from your own country

If they will only accept a Thai police report which can only be obtained from Bangkok this could cause major problems for many teachers

    Thanks again

  4. Never heard of registering with the police any where every 90 days. Sounds more like the normal 90 day reports to immigration.

Wanting a Thai police clearance is not that unusual.

Sorry I should have been clearer - I have checked and he is on a tourist visa but wants to apply for a non b based on teaching - the school have told him that to get a non-b you have to have a Thai police clearance certificate and register.

My understanding is that Vientienne consulate now ask for a police clearance certificate, but from your home country - not from the Thai police

He tried to get clarification and was told he also has to register at the same time with Bangkok Police as it is a new rule - doesn't matter where you live.

So far he has not done any 90 days reporting at Nong Khai immigration.

    To summarise :-

    1) to now get a non b visa is the police clearance certificate from Thai police or your own country?

    2) is there a new policy that farlangs now have to register with Bangkok Police if you are here longer than 90 days !? - regardless of where you live in Thailand. (This one I find hard to believe)

    Thanks guys

  5. A friend of mine has been told he has to go to Bangkok Police (and only Bangkok, even though he lives in Nong Khai) and register because he has been here longer than 3 months!!

Apparently it is a new rule that came into effect last week - has anybody heard of this?

Whether it is because he is a teacher I am not sure but maybe something has got lost in translation and he has been asked to get a Thai Police clearance certificate - but for teachers this used to be from your home country

    does anybody know ?

  6. You need to be more prudent. I don't know very well but most Non B visas usually bear the name of the schools that gave documents for the Non Bs to be issued. I am afraid your school may have some influence over that visa since they gave documents for it to be issued. You need to act fast. How your school can cancel the 90 days given you by the border immigration is what beats my imagination. But this is Thailand.

So you think the school can cancel the 90 days given to me my boarder immigration? Because everybody else who has posted so far seems to think otherwise.I mean, there must be 1000s of teachers who have quit their jobs on the spot before me, surely most of the time they are fine?

My Thaifriend said that above the visa is the name of the school of which I was employed. I think I am going to go to immigration tomorrow and question it with my Thai speaking friend there to try and work out what is going on. Thank you for your input, it's appreciated.

When you applied for the non-b that school is mentioned on the visa but it makes absolutely no difference to what Ubonjoe and myself said earlier.

You are not on an extension and the school cannot cancel the original non-b visa whilst you are on the original 90 days

  7. Until your 90 days ends you are 100% ok

The red stamp means you need to get a work permit - for example if you went back to Vientiane for another single non-b using the same documents and school your application will be rejected - the main reason being is that you are meant to apply for a work permit during the initial 90 days and get an extension

Going back to Vientiane with documents from a different school no problem

Your best option is to try and arrange a contract now with a new school and get a work permit, then extension

  8. If you have 8 months left on your work permit you can just go to immigration and get an extension for 8 months. That what I did. It costs 1900 baht

The issue is that extensive paperwork is needed, and for non-teachers, taxes paid for a minium salary of Bt 50,000.

Because not everyone is able to meet the above requirement, they have to go get multi-entry non-imm 'B' visa.

Ok fair point - as a teacher it was easy

  9. I have a work permit and visa extension that ends on 31 march. I was told just before Christmas, when I went for the 90 reporting, when I go back on 21 March bring the new work permit etc and they will issue a new 12 month extension..... Seems easy

Query is this - my friend went last month to the same immigration office but there are new immigration officers appointed by apparently the army. My friend was told that he must apply for the further visa extension 30'days before or must get a new visa !!

We are both teachers at the same school, dates for visa extension and work permit are the same. However we won't get our new work permits until 1st or 2nd week in march

Any views on this ? I think what my friend was told is wrong, it's a further extension based on working, why can't it be done let's say 1 week before

  10. It is possible to have a 2nd employer added to a work permit, It requires permission from the employer that got your work permit to do it. The 2nd employer and the job must meet all the requirements to get a work permit.

I have read of rare cases where a person was working in different provinces and was able to get a 2nd work permit.

    thanks Ubonjoe

I thought this was the case - otherwise it makes no sense enforcing the WP requirements. In my case the two jobs are in the same province and would be covered by the same labour office - they would be no problem getting consent from the first employer

  11. I have a WP working for a government school. I only work 3 days a week but I am considered full time.

If I wanted to work in a second school on the other 2 days be it a government or a private school is there a problem in having the second employer added to the WP or a second WP issued ?

I ask because during a recent discussion with a farlang he claims it is impossible ?! ....... I have tried to contact the local labour office but so far have had no response.

has anyone been in a similar situation or know for certainty the laws in this situation

    thanks

  12. They have not been approved yet.

I agree with Ubonjoe that the rules have not been approved however today at Nong Khai immigration when I went to get my 12 month extension I asked what the position was re the bans and the boss said "not in place yet but if overstay more than 90 days you must leave by the airport and not the bridge" !!

He then pointed to his new filing cabinet draw marked blacklisted

Whether or not they actually do I don't know but I'm just relaying what he said..... And I was with a Thai teacher that is his friend

  13. Is there a requirement for number of teaching hours to qualify for a work permit and extension of stay?

20 seems usual but not sure if that is policy or requirement.

Can most language school teachers meet the requirements?

Funny to compare this requirement to people complaining about possible increases in the require hours you must pay a language school to qualify for educational visa.

My contract is full time for 15 hours teaching per week (although in reality in only 12 hours because the lessons are only 45 to 50 mins long) I had no problem getting the teachers waiver or work permit

  14. There have been no reports of the new rules being enforced anywhere.

They have not been approved so it is not possible for them to be enforced.

That Facebook page post probably has been up for some time now. Nothing new there.

It was posted on 15th Sept. I have to go to immigration next week and will ask them direct

I hope it isn't yet in force as my friend still hasn't got off his arse and sorted out his overstay !

  15. The following was posted on facebook by Nong Khai immigration and according to my school there are now enforcing the ban if you try to leave via the bridge. What was strange the school said if you leave by air, no problem. This therefore makes me think the new rules are not yet officially in force and it's NK adopting their own policy

  16. The work permit office will accept an extension of a non-b visa entry to issue the work permit.

The problem is that immigration probably will not do the extension without a work permit or at least an application for one.

Immigration might accept your application with a work permit application approval letter and give you an under consideration stamp until you return with the work permit.

Thanks Ubonjoe, I'm confident the school can get the non b extended. My concern was with the labour office but hopefully now that should be ok - thanks again

  17. I have previously had a WP and that was straight forward. This time due to my current school being incompetent I now may not get my work issued before the 28 September (when my non B expires)

The schools suggestion is to send their contact to immigration to get an extension (I currently have a non-B ) Assuming I get the extension will the labour office issue a work permit if on an extension ?
