Your question needs more detail for anyone to answer it. What airport are you flying from? What dates?

I am posting this on behalf of my brother as he is grief stricken at the moment. My brother had a 3 year old Thai son called Toby, who was Down Syndrome. He and his girlfriend decided to let little Toby live in England, as the facilities and understanding of Downs is so much better than in Thailand.I flew back from Thailand yesterday and arrived at Heathrow, I had arranged my father to collect me from the airport, I didn't see him in arrivals so I decided to call him, I could tell by the shaking in his voice that something awful had happened...i was speechless, I only saw little Toby on webcam 48 hours previous, he said that Toby had suffered a heart attack and was pronounced dead at the hospital. We are all in deep shock at the moment and would really appreciate any help anyone can give any info on transporting Toby back to Thailand to be cremated to his home town in Korat as that's what they have decided to do, who needs to be imformed? how do you go about sending the body back to Thailand? and the costs if possible, any help would be appreciated... Thankyou for any posts in advance.
Toby Kidd RIP my little friend.

Have i got my figures right, £12K to build a house!!!
I am looking at moving to Thailand in the next 5 years and i would love a beach resort, but the GF wants Ubon.
She tells me that life is a lot better and safer away from the tourist resorts but for me a village near a beach would do.
Malc
Yes you are right, this time 18 months ago it was £10,000. You won't do anything in Pattaya for £12,000 at least double that and more. Go and live in her village for a few months and see if you like it!

Can I ask what you paid to have it built and how big it is?
Looking to have something similar build but have little to no clue on the price.
Thanks
The land was 60,000 baht (approx half a rai)
The materials cost about 450,000 baht
The guy to build the place cost me 115,000 baht
The front of house archway and porch 5000 baht(My builder couldn't do it)
This included electric and water into the house, but not the drilling for water and the pump and the electric meter so they can bill you, which i forget the price but not much.
I would say around 650,000 for the whole lot incl purchase of the land, i was lucky because we had no problems, it also depends on what you like, loads of different prices for things, best idea is to get some address of building suppliers and write down the different prices, as buying in bulk 1 or 2 baht price difference can save you loads in the end!
Its 12 metres long and 10 metres wide, so i guess 120sq metres, i wanted a outdoor eating area undercover so 4 sq meter was left for the table and chairs.
Where in Thailand are you going to build? The land in Issan is alot cheaper than say Pattaya or Koh Samui, and the builders will charge you alot more i would double that money for a place in those areas maybe more! Let me know more what you plan to do. Good luck. More pics below...

Pretty nice bungalow you have there up north, is it Amnat Charoen?
anyhow, I live in the city (Ubon) but really can't compare with the bars/pubs that will be in par with Bangkok however
there are a few places downtown where the bar is owned by a foreigner/expat/Thai, such as 'wrong way', a new
Italian restaurant across Home-Mart hardware store, E-bar @ Laithong Hotel, U-bar downtown near Supasit hospital.
These are just a few places, but I am sure more people on the blog will give you suggestions.
I am in a small village called Norn Wung ( i think) its not so far from the monkey temple in Phana, thanks for all the info. i am flying on January the 4th for 2 months can't wait as i haven't seen the house finished yet!

Can confirm that the Liverpool office is issuing free tourist visas, it only cost me £10.50 for the special nextday delivery.

I live in the Uk and i want to stay in Issan next year for 60 days, i looked at the Thai Embassy website in Liverpool and it says Tourist Visas are issued free until March 2010, so just to confirm this i called the embassy and they said "yes its free but with a £15 admin charge" it says nothing about this £15 admin charge on the website, i have decided to send my application to the embassy in Birmingham instead, has anyone heard of this £15 admin charge?

Didn't know about the new law stating that they can take land away from Thai people if they think it has been funded by a foreinger, i have been sending about £300-£400 per 2 weeks for the last 6 months and i have purchased in my girlfriends name a half rai of land(60,000 baht) and i am building a basic 2 bed bungalow for around 450,000 baht, its all in the rice growing region of Ubon Ratchathani a small village called Non Wang about 65kms from Ubon. I hope when its finshed in October no one knocks on my door saying " Sorry but the land has been confisacted" i won't be happy at all!

Try Thai Air Asia, i got a return to Surat Thani and then bus and boat to Koh Samui. If you book early enough i paid less than £30 for a return flight to Surat Thani. The bus and boat you can buy in the airport in Surat Thani i think for around 270 baht. They stung me at the airport both ways for 5kg over weight on my baggage, 1kg=100 baht , so be careful and pack light. Even with the 1000 baht extra charge its still cheap !

HIV-scare man resurfaces
Hans-Otto Schiemann, 56
CHAIYAPHUM: -- A German man at the centre of a mass HIV scare last year has showed up at a local market, upsetting many residents, police said yesterday.
Former-soldier Hans-Otto Schiemann, 56, was earlier accused of spreading HIV by paying up to 400 women and girls in the province to have unprotected sex, allegedly out of spite after contracting the virus from a 17-year-old Thai girl.
He has been married to a Thai for five years and his wife has said she is dying of Aids. He was sentenced to 58 days in jail and was deported last November for overstaying his visa since 2001.
Early this week, villagers told police they saw the man at a local market, said Lt-Colonel Khampol Nonuch of Muang Chaiyaphum police station. "We know he's back but we don't know what to do with him because the provincial court punished and deported him last year for overstaying his visa," he said.
Aids campaigner Sommart Troy said letting Schiemann back into Thailand was unacceptable. "This man deliberately transmits HIV to others. How can you let him come back to Thailand?" Sommart said.
Nakhon Ratchasima tourism police Major Thanomsak Inthrabutr said police had proposed he be made persona non grata. However, Pol Colonel Sutthipong Wongpin, superintendent of the Immigration Police, said he had merely overstayed his visa and was not banned from entering the Kingdom.

Building A Small Village Shop - Cost
in Isaan
Posted
I hope to answer all your questions in my reply, check out my new shop I just opened near Phana. Here is the YouTube video above.
The shop built with labour charge was 120,000 baht, including electric and water from the house supply. Built with steel roof supports, don't use wood the termites will eat through it.
The shutter was 10,000 baht, comes in 2 colours. The labour charge included the fitting of the shutter.
The shelves and fridge was 30,000 baht The shelves come as a set, the shop is next door to Ubon Watsadu in Ubon Ratchathani, it sells fridges, kitchen supplies will deliver for a charge,( About 500 baht for 70 km) they delivered the fridge and shelves and set it all up for 500 baht, bit of a no-brainer for me. Bought a few cheap shelves for around 500 baht each, from http://www.ubonwatsadu.co.th/default best shop in Ubon for building supplies etc. The wooden ones you see are around 250 baht, available on roadside shops which sell furniture etc.. but even with treatment the termites had eaten the wood. The desk and chair was 3500 baht . TV 2600 baht 21" all from Ubon Watsadu. The small chest freezer was 7800 baht from the same shop as the fridge.
So we are at around 176,000 baht at the moment without stock. The items which will take up all your money is beer and whiskey(Lao Kao) and cigs. These items will make you the most money. We started the shop with 40,000 baht, buying all the things you see in the video. In my shop Lao Kao is the best seller, God knows why it's like drinking petrol.
We have had a mixed bag of days from taking 1800 baht to 300 baht, several factors include if the schools are open, people are planting or picking rice, parties in the village, how many drunks you have in the village, even funerals, we had a guy come and buy 3 boxes of beer, I asked him if he was going to a party, he said "no to a funeral"
If you want some thing like my shop you will be needing around £4000+, I did it in stages over a year to spread the cost.
You can do it alot cheaper I know, but I wanted something a bit special and it will last....I hope.
Giving credit will be a problem, I give everyone one chance, after that it's cash or nothing.
Good luck any more questions let me know!
