Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Cup Match Day 5 Group G clash between Thailand’s Muang Thong United and Hong Kong’s South China has been moved to Phuket because of the political unrest in Bangkok. The match was originally scheduled for April 20 at Thunderdome Stadium in Muang Thong, Bangkok at 1830hrs local time.

The game will now be held at the Surakul Stadium in Phuket on April 20, 2010 with kick-off at 1830hrs local time.

The Hong Kong Football Association asked AFC for a change of venue because of the problems in the Thai capital.

The Thailand Football Association urged the AFC to keep the tie in Bangkok, offering the South China team maximum security.

It also said the Thunderdome Stadium was more than 20 kilometres away from the city centre and the route from Bangkok Airport to the Muang Thong did not pass the areas of unrest.

However, South China were restricted by the Outbound Travel Alert issued by the Hong Kong Government warning against travel to Bangkok.

As a result, the AFC accepted the Thai FA’s suggestion to stage the match in Phuket.

Both teams are in the running to qualify for the last 16 of the AFC Cup.

  8. Any one got any attendance figures for the different divisions.

Every club seems to have increasing attendance. Biggest premier league crowd is maybe about 20 000, average is maybe 5000. If you check in a couple of months the figures will be bigger, Thai football is in the middle of a boom. Div 1 and Div 2 clubs are also pulling several thousand.

  9. just noticed time of your post... Take it you mean Saturday?

yeah it's today, in back late forgot about that.

at the moment they use the provincial stadium not the bigger one, makes for a better atmosphere until they hit the big leagues.

  10. Chiang Mai FC are looking like promotion favourites in only their second year in existence. Currently a couple of points clear at the top of the table after 8 matches (W7 D0 L1) Looks like Chiang Mai have all the ingredients to make a big club - supporter base, big stadium (but using the provincial one until promoted), investment and a Thai League thats booming.... as long as the success continues I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

    Big match on tomorrow

Chiang Mai v Prea at 6pm

  11. Hi Nigbon, is there any team playing now in Kanchanaburi? I understand TOT have moved from there, which is disappointing. Always a fair crowd when they played the home matches.

yeah, Muangkan FC http://muangkanfc.com/ , formed this year now top of the league in division 2 Central Region decent support and no chance of them skipping town like TOT.

they play this Saturday v Rayong.

  12. table found here - http://www.soccerway.com/national/thailand...-season/tables/

from www.thaileaguefootball.com coaches comments on the weekends matches

    Sisaket 1-1 TOT Cat

Kim Giang (Staff Sisaket) - We all fulfilled our duties well. The players followed the game plan well and had a chance to score more, but in the end I am satisfied with 1 point.

Narong (Coach TOT Cat) - The atmosphere here in Sisaket is great, the fans are great. We are sure that Sisaket will improve and do well this year. We are satisfied with 1 point from this away match.

    Buriram PEA 1-1 BEC Tero

Thonket (Staff Buriram PEA) - We should have won this game but we lost concentration for a while and the drew level. It's ok, the next game will be better than this one.

Tawan (Coach BEC Tero) - This match was ok. For the first match of the season everything went well. I am satisfied with the performance of the team.

    Samut Songkrahm 1-0 Bangkok Glass

Somchai (Staff Samut Songkrahm) - This match wes very intense to the point of aggression from the Bangkok Glass players. The referee didn't give yellow or red cards when they were required. The players showed good spirit and and I asked them to push forward for the win and they did it. We are not inferior, our players did really well.

Surachai (Coach Bangkok Glass) - We each had a strong half in this game. In the first half we were better but couldn't score. They don't have any star players but work well as a team, it shows that in the 16 Premier League teams no team can be discounted. If you win or lose it's just part of the game and the coach needs to fix it for the next match. Off the pitch we need to be more professional and separate the crowds properly because we don't want anymore problems.

Muang Thong United 1-0 Navy Rayong

Procureur (Manager Muang Thong United) - They played a very defensive game which made it tough for us to play normally. We expect we will have to play many matches like this this season. The match was not very entertaining to watch because of their game plan. Most importantly we got the 3 points.

Amonkert (Coach Navy Rayong) - We played defensively as we can't match MTU in attacking play. We tried to prevent them scoring but couldn't do it. Next week we will bring in a new player from France who has played with Paris Saint Germain. I have to resign now as we have not won any points after 3 matches. The new coach will probably be Somsuk Akison, my assistant.

    Thai Port 3-2 Police United

Wattana (staff Thai Port) - I have to congratulate the players for following the tactics well. It was like an away match, we knew they would be attacking us. This win really gives the players confidence for the league and the AFC Cup.

Chayong (Coach Police United) - We went down a goal so early, the third minute. Then after 2 goals it knocked the wind out of us, but I have to say that the players did well, we just need to fix some small details. We are not far into the season, I'm confident we'll get better.

    Pattaya United 1-2 Chonburi

Tawachai (Staff Pattaya United) - The match was played in a good spirit as it is a derby match between 2 teams from Chonburi. Many people may say that we played the match too defensively but we tried to attack from the flanks and not from the midfield as they are far stronger than us in this area. Overall the players did a good job.

Jaded (Coach Chonburi) - We conceded a goal too easily in the first half which increased the pressure and intensity as it is a derby match. At half time I told the players focus and start over. We created the opportunities to score and took the match.
