Is this Thailand you're referring to? I had no idea.

Yes, that's Thai law which came into effect some 3 or 4 years ago.

I must be naive - what's the reason behind it for the passengers?

You are not seriously asking for a reason behind any thai law, are you? But as far as  remember, they said something like "it might tempt the driver to drink also".

  2. We have 3BB VDSL 50/10 in one house and 3BB VDSL 30/10 in our second house next door (no 3BB Fiber available in our little village).

Speed of the 50/10 is way above the advertised speed, normally 70+/20+. Also the speed of the 30/10 appears to be good or even very good. At least my boys, who are using that line and are heavy gamers both, never complained.

  3. My 15 years old son got his license some months ago. 15 years is the minimum age. The license is good for motorcycles up to 90cc (which is clearly marked on the back side of the license card).

He drives a 125cc motorcycle and he was stopped by the police several times. They accepted his 90cc license.

There also is a minimum age for a more than 90cc license. It may be 18 or 20 years. I'm not sure. Probably somebody else knows better than me.

  4. Correct. Every time an hotel complies with the law and registers your address it goes on the computer, and that won't be changed till you send in a new and different address using the form for the purpose.

When I asked the Immigration officer about this matter last year, she told me, my wife does not need to register me again every time because I was registered with Mukdahan Immigration already.

When I did my "90 days" report 2 weeks ago, the officer (not the same one as last year) realized that my latest registration had been done by a hotel in Khon Kaen, where I stayed for a night some months ago. He asked me politely: "Have you been to Khon Kaen recently?". "Yes", I replied. "O.k." he said, smiled and that was it. He did NOT ask for a new registration at my wife's house.

  5. Try Nok Air instead of Air Asia. Nok Air has "Fly & Ride" services from/to both airports in Sakon Nakhon and in Nakhon Phanom. Nok Air also has a drop off point at the bridge.

Air Asia has "Fly & Ride" only on their Nakhon Phanom flights and will drop you at the Indochine Market in downtown Mukdahan, which is quite e few kilometers away from the bridge.

  6. You need to recheck your info. I don't believe any airline does the the fly/ride via Sakhon Nakon now.

Air Asia goes there via Nakhon Phanom also not Ubon.

Joe, you are right with Air Asia. They are in fact going via Nakhon Phanom, not Ubon Ratchathani. Sorry for that!

You are wrong with Nok Air/Sakhon Nakhon. Go to nokair.com and select Mukdahan as destination (as JeffreyO explained already). Than click on the airplane symbol next to the flight number. A small window will pop up and give you some more detailed information about the flight (including the destination of the selected flight). The bus symbol will lead you to some information about the bus ride. You will see, there are Sakhon Nakhon flights listed as well as flights to Nakhon Phanom or Ubon Ratchathani.

But I was wrong in another point as well. Not only the buses from Nakhon Phanom stop at the additional Stop-point at the bridge, the Sakhon Nakhon buses do so as well. Also this is not a pick up point (as I wrongly said before) but only a drop of point. Sorry again!

  7. The Mukdahan van will drop off at the Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge first and then continue to downtown Mukdahan.

Only Nok Air's route between Nakhon Phanom and Mukdahan (and vice versa) has an additional drop off point at the bridge (and a pick up point as well). The vans on the other 2 routes (Sakhon Nakhon, Ubon Ratchathani) won't drop you or pick you up at the bridge. They only stop at the Ploy Palace Hotel.

Air Asia's drop off/pick up point is at the Indochine Market. Air Asia's Fly & Ride service applies only to their flights to/from Ubon Ratchathani.
