  1. Would love to see a genuine survey and genuine answers on the following two questions.

Were you ever insulted by the figure that used to appear on certain jam containers ?

Were you ever insulted by the name on a certain toothpaste before they changed the "K" to an "L"

Back in the early 80's, one of the ships in the minehunting squadron in Rosyth (Scotland) had 'that figure that used to appear on certain jam containers' as the ship's unofficial logo. No offence was ever intended with this and certainly nothing involving the reason it was removed.

It took a directive from someone very high up before the boys took it down. It was given a full military burial at sea. The wake lasted for me until 1997 when I left the navy, I knew some that still continued to mourn longer than that...............rolleyes.gif

  3. My understanding of how this works is that the tourist doesn't have a clue what they are paying, and as long as that happens it will continue. If those increases happen then that will be a clear 400% profit for every foreign visitor that goes into one of the national parks.

What is the price difference based on? It doesn't really concern me as I pay Thai prices (if ever I wanted to go into one of the parks) but I have always been curious about this price gap. A markup is a markup, but that is insane.

Or a 400% loss for every Thai that goes in - did you ever consider it that way?

Thats a Scottish brain in motion right there..............tongue.png

  4. Chrisinth

After watching the the two clips

Does this mean I have to change my TV name ?sad.png

Certainly!! You might need two lines for your username though, as overherebeforecommonera is a bit of a mouthful.........biggrin.png

Still, looking at some anagrams of that:

    Oho EEC barmen forevermore

    each no more forevermore be

    be forevermore coon harem

But be careful, that last one could be deemed un-PC and get you in the sh1t. Better to take a chance with your current TV name and hope nobody notices.............thumbsup.gifbiggrin.png

  5. For chrisinth, regarding his post #475.

Happy to make the input, because it frustrates me to hear so many opinions based on so little actual experience... or so many of the posters claim. I suspect there may be the odd lurker in the woodwork.

I did explain how most guys who love ladyboys feel about thier own sexuality in an early post back on around page 14 or 15.

Simply we see ourselves as straight-...ish. Not truly bisexual, because the male physique holds no sexual interest for us. Not straight, as we like our girls with extra bits. So ... straightish. The best way I can explain it is this way. For me Salma Hayak is one of the most beautiful women in the world. Voluptuous Latina looks. I give her 9/10. Now if she were a pre-op ladyboy she would be 10/10. Maybe that makes no sense to most of you. But it does to me. I love women. I don't sleep with them anymore, I jumped that fence a long long time ago. But I still find them sexy, appealing and gorgeous. I do not feel that way about any man I have ever met, or am likely to meet.

Here's a surprise for you. When i first came hurtling out of the closet on this one, I was in my home country. My straight male mates were really supportive. Yep they took the piss. But that is what I expected and it was pretty funny and not degrading. Its how mates treat each other. My female friends went toxic on me: not liking the fact I had found an alternative to the worship of womanhood, and my gay mates thought I had turned gay. It took a few harsh words to make them understand that I was not int he least into men then, and still am not.

Ladyboys are a gateway to becoming gay in the same way as pot is a gateway to heroin. It may happen for some, but the majority have found what they want.

Thanks f0xxee, that is the best descriptiive text on this subject I have read in this whole thread

f0xxee said, "I did explain how most guys who love ladyboys feel about thier own sexuality in an early post back on around page 14 or 15." How does he know that? Does he know mosst guys who love ladyboys? Or should he have confined his remarks to himself instead of trying to speak for thousands or millions of other people? Just asking.

I didn't get to read the earlier post, I was refering to the one above. Perhaps he shouldn't generalize, but he is the only one (I have seen) to have given a hint at what the self-confessed other side think. Even though its not my thing, Good on him/them, hope they have a happy life.

  8. I could understand it if the victim guy was playing with the GF's pussy cat.... But the girl playing with his dog... I don't get it...

"Would you like to play with my puppies?" <Example>

Something said in fun and misunderstood through language and alcohol mix is all that it takes for some to kick-off. We read what they write and listen to what they say, but unless we were there and have seen it from both sides we can never fairly judge (if it ever is our job to do so)

However, we can never condone premeditated murder

RIP my Kiwi friend, nobody deserves that............wai.gif

  9. "Citing investigation results, the officer said Od sae Phua had detected drug-dealing activities inside the prison on July 30 and had reported to his superiors on August 17 because other prison officials kept pleading with him to keep quiet or come to an agreement. He also reportedly refused to accept a Bt200,000 bribe for turning a blind eye to the smuggling.

"Od might have wavered a bit during this 17-day period but decided to report about it on August 17, and was shot dead the very next day," Ronnaphong said."

If the investigation has been concluded, where are the resulting arrests? If they have established someone offered him Bt200,000, then surely they must have a name?

Or is this another case of we have investigated, case closed? Hopefully there will be follow-up actions on this.

  10. So many men here trying to justify their sexual orientation. Too funny.

Coming to Thailand may not make you a bisexual, but as evidenced by this thread, it confuses you as to just what your sexual orientation is.

Getting back to basics, if a "person" has a Y chromosome, it's a male human. Doesn't matter if it's wearing a frock, has fake tits and has had it's junk removed, it's still a bloke.

So, if a male dresses up and acts like a female and so completely fools another "straight" guy that he gets the hots for the former, would you define the fooled guy as a homosexual just because he got attracted to a person with a Y chromosome ??

All this analysis misses the basic point that sexual orientation is all in the mind and the psyche. If a person is getting attracted by the feminine characteristics of the LB it is not a homosexual thing at all (not that being homosexual is a thing to be abhorred or be frightened of).

I will not pretend to understand different people's sexual proclivity or what games they play in their little heads to justify their behavior. All I am pointing out is that a man is a man is a man. No more, no less. If someone is attracted to a pipe fitter that has a 5 o'clock shadow, but is wearing a frock and tucks his junk away, then more power to them.

In your example, the "straight" guy was under the impression that he was indeed interested in a female based on the outward appearance. At the time he finds out that the she is actually a he, then that's where he has to do some soul searching to either move forward with a liaison or go to the bog and throw up...

I have noticed that an overwhelming number of LB patrons do tend to be the muscled-up farang with chips on their shoulders, which has always made me curious.

"Muscled up Falangs with chips on their shoulders"?

Where are you making you canny observations from? Walking Street? Bangla Road? Soi Nana? Manchester?

You are so far from having even the vaguest clue of what you are talking about.

I am not one to do the sex tourist thing, as stated in previous posts, I live in TH am in an LTR with a Ladyboy and have been for a long time.

However perhaps if you were to go to any of the 5 big ladyboy bars around Soi Nana on any night, you would find that ladyboy lovers tend to be in the middle aged and older bracket, a large smattering of Japanese and Koreans, and really the most average Joe Punters from around the world you ever expect to meet. I think you are thinking of gay culture, where there is for sure a "beautiful body" cachet.

As for your comment about "Someone being attracted to a Pipe-fitter with a 5 O'clock shadow"... again... you either have no concept of how truly beautiful some ladyboys are, or you are being extreme to try to make a point which is not particularly worth making.

f0xxee, thanks for the input; I think you are the first one to admit having a long term relationship with a LB.

As a matter of interest, what gender catagory would you describe yourself as? It might shed light on the differing opinions on this thread.

  11. As mentioned in the OP, it is sorting out fact from fiction. The source for the following examples is:

    http://hereisthecity...tness-gone-mad/

Here's 11 examples of political correctness gone mad.

    ...

So I take it, then, that you believe political correctness to be a good thing, but political correctness gone mad to be a bad thing.

A bit like the American National Rifle Association view on firearms; while politicial correctness is a good thing, and we should all be allowed to carry it, we should not tar all political correctness with the same brush because of the insane actions of a few that take it to ridiculous extremes through their own inability to see the woods for the trees.

    SC

I'm dead against it. I still believe a spade is a spade, unless its a shovel

  12. What do you mean by Political Correctness, then?

Do you mean refraining from calling black people black?

Do you mean referring to people as "hearing impaired"; "special needs"

Do you mean treating people equally, regardless of their colour, race and sexuality, despite your own personal antipthies?

Do you mean suppressing one's own religious fervour out of consideration for others and separating state and church, while allowing others their own freedom of faith?

You'll really need to explain what you mean by 'Political Correctness', but I suspect that most of our fellow posters will interpret it as a bandwagon on which to leap and excoriate the more liberal excesses of our own societies, while demonstrating their own prejudices

    SC

Good question SC, what is it and who decides what is right or wrong?

Looking at Wiki ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_correctness ) their definition is:

"The central uses of the term relate to particular issues of race, gender, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, culture and worldviews, and encompass both the language in which issues are discussed and the viewpoints that are expressed. Proponents of the view that differences in IQ test scores between blacks and whites are (primarily or largely) genetically determined state that criticism of these views is based on political correctness"

    Just about covers everything really!

  13. As mentioned in the OP, it is sorting out fact from fiction. The source for the following examples is:

    http://hereisthecity.com/2011/10/07/11-cases-of-political-correctness-gone-mad/

Here's 11 examples of political correctness gone mad.

    1. The BBC has dropped the use of the terms Before Christ (BC) and Anno Domini (AD) on one of their programmes and decided that the terms 'Before Common Era' / 'Common Era' are more appropriate

    2. The European Parliament introduced proposals to outlaw titles stating marital status such as 'Miss' and 'Mrs' so as not to cause offence. It also meant that 'Madame' and 'Mademoiselle', 'Frau' and 'Fraulein' and 'Senora' and 'Senorita' would be banned.

    3. Throughout several US councils and organisations, any terms using the word 'man' as a prefix or suffix have been ruled as not being politically correct. 'Manhole' is now referred to as a 'utility' or 'maintenance' hole.

    4. Loveable cartoon rogue Dennis the Menace has been given a politically correct make over. BBC chiefs decided to take away his edge in the remake. Gone are his bombs, catapult, water pistol and pea shooter - and in their place is a simple boyish grin.

    5. Spotted Dick - a classic English dessert has been renamed to avoid embarrassment. The traditional pud Spotted Dick has been given the title Spotted Richard, after UK council bosses feared the original name might cause offence.

    6. A school in Seattle renamed its Easter eggs 'spring spheres' to avoid causing offence to people who did not celebrate Easter.

    7. A UK council has banned the term 'brainstorming' and replaced it with 'thought showers', as local lawmakers thought the term may offend epileptics.

    8. A UK recruiter was stunned when her job advert for 'reliable' and 'hard-working' applicants was rejected by the job centre as it could be offensive to unreliable and lazy people.

    9. Gillingham fans had begun to fondly offer celery to their goalkeeper, ‘Big Fat’ Jim Stannard. The club, however, decided that celery could result in health and safety issues inside the ground. As a result, fans were subjected to celery searches with the ultimate sanction for possession of celery allegedly being a life ban.’

    10. In 2007, Santa Clauses in Sydney, Australia, were banned from saying 'Ho Ho Ho'. Their employer, the recruitment firm Westaff (that supplies hundreds of Santas across Australia), allegedly told all trainees that 'ho ho ho' could frighten children, and be derogatory to women. Why ? Because 'Ho Ho Ho' is too close to the American (not Australian, mind you) slang for prostitute.

    11. Some US schools now have a 'holiday tree' every at Christmas, rather than a Christmas tree.

  14. An Englishman, Irishman, Scotsman and a Norwegian were sat in a pub............... sounds like the start of a bad joke! But we were in the pub on Saturday watching the start of the premiership. During the small talk, the subject of Rio Ferdinand being fined the equivalent of $71,000 for answering a Tweet from another user that had used the term 'Chocice' that concerned Ashley Cole (another footbal player).

This is one coloured gentleman talking about another coloured gentleman and the word Chocice was deemed racist! Chocice apparently means Black on the outside and white on the inside.

I reckon if he used the term Magnum Classic, he could have got an advertising contract for it and made money instead of losing it.

  15. I would like to pose the question, Does political correctness work or does it cause more problems and resentment since it's 'modern' usage from the late 80's/early 90's?

Who dictates to the global population what should be said and what shouldn't, and how can this authority change dictionaries on a whim?

Personally I think it is a crock and does cause problems, the most common cause being able to tell what is true and what is false.

The reason I posted in The Pub is that it is not Thai specific, but I would like to hear about political correctness affecting life over here.

    Cheers

    C

  16. As a lifelong practicing hetrosexual, might I make a suggestion for your classification of ladyboy lovers/stalkers?

If they can't be classed as homo/hetro/bi-sexual, why not call them Tri-sexual? That should cover it!

I think that is very apt for the 3rd gender, would you not agree? It also has a better ring to it than that of deviant............rolleyes.gif

Further, TV could patent the name (you have my permission) and all that I ask is to be included in some kind of protection programme and a change of my TV username.....................biggrin.png

  17. I really doubt those girls were tricked into what they were doing.

I agree they were not tricked into it, they were forced into it.

99.95% of the white or black women you see in Thailand hooking are forced into it, for them its not a choice.

One of the reasons Thailand is popular as a sex destination is that the vast majority of Thai women involved in the business is they do it voluntarily and most reasonably guys do care about the trafficked women.

You do realise that 99.95 is a pretty big percentage? Love to know where you source that......................ermm.gif

  18. My deepest condolences to K. Aod's family after this terrible act, truely.

For me, it is worrying to read the comments from the majority of posters here so far praising the integrity of this prison guard. The fact that he was simply doing his job seperates him from the rest of the prison guards who in the eyes of most, are themselves corrupt within a corrupt system. I am certain he was not alone.

The authorities should be making a conserted effort bringing the people responsible for this to justice, no stone left unturned. The psychological message something like this carries to the rest of the prison guards is massive and the longer it is left unsolved, the greater the strength of the message.
