For "fixed" read "fits perfectly"...........................

I'm sure we're all very grateful for that "clarification" from the esteemed General...................we could so easily have believed all those misleading reports in the British press that the Thai Charge d'Affaires had been summoned by the British Foreign Office.............................

Another Thai farce....................left hand, right hand etc.

Thailand Post?......................same old, same old............nothing new here, move on please.............

I don't think the Thai powers will like this move by the UK.
They sure as hell won't like it but the unspoken threat by the UK is that unless this investigation/prosecution is conducted in an acceptable manner there will be further negative travel advisories issued to potential UK tourists to Thailand with the inevitable serious impact upon the Thai tourist economy.
Knowing that money is God in this land, I suspect this may cause some deep reflection among those in power..................

Can't always be good news, it seems.........................

Shouldn't this headline read :-
"Thais need to build credibility and be accountable"?
-
"If you look at developed countries, people do not accept bribes or commit corruption because they uphold and value personal integrity. That hasn't been the case in our country, and it's something we should try to foster in our society."
Every Thai policeman and Government official should read the above line 10 times per day. Than maybe after a couple of years the country can move up to be a Developing country, now it's going backward, its not even developing.
100% Right.
It came as quite a shock to learn that there is actually a Thai word for "integrity"..................

Swiwara said "the campaign violated the people's rights"..................is he saying "the right to bribe is inviolable"?
Wouldn't surprise me in the least................

"I have asked the other inmates to monitor the two burmese". What a laughable and ridiculous statement.
Then, when the inevitable happens it will be "well, we did everything in our power to prevent this, but it was fate after all".
Quite disgusting behaviour by these sham "officials".

"Today we're following democracy".............................but at quite a distance, it seems!

....................because the R.T.P. really do need special treatment, poor souls that they are....................

Hey guys.............a bribe is a bribe is a bribe..................get it?

First deal with the deep-rooted xenophobia and racism in Thailand then Thais will have half a chance of understanding their neighbours..............
-
................and I understand that they actually pay these people to come up with such harebrained schemes!

They just don't get it do they?

Note the careful use of the phrase "resolving the Koh Tao Murder case"..........................a world of difference from "solving the Koh Tao murder case".
Not just sloppy phrasing, I suspect....................
-
Have they found someone to give false evidence in exchange for money?
It's not at all uncommon throughout this whole region for not only witnesses to be bought, but also a paid patsy to be found who is willing to "confess" to a crime he did not commit in exchange for a suitable consideration to take care of his dependents.
I believe that this is the most likely scenario for a "successful" outcome to this charade of an investigation........
-
"No mafia on Koh Tao............" - the classic use of semantics to cover a lie.
Someone should explain to the esteemed D.P. the meaning of the phrase "A rose by any other name................etc".

I'm sure it will be a great comfort to the devastated friends and relations of the murdered couple to hear that "the general atmosphere on Koh Tao remains vibrant and healthy"...................
-
Every aspect of this sham investigation has been a world-class disgrace and "Thainess" is exposed for what it really is.
-
"case solved" or "case closed" ?....................I'm pretty sure I know which one it will be.

I think they are describing this person as a "key witness" BECAUSE he says that a "foreigner" killed the two British tourists.
Now the investigation just has to be "adjusted" to fit the ID....................

I really wouldn't care if they decided to build more coal/wood/almostanything-fired power stations just as long as Thais are NEVER given the chance to build any nuclear powered generators!

Thailand agrees to British police help over murders

I'm thinking that we are witnessing the final showdown between the military and the police in their power struggle.
Other posters have also alluded to this - Prayuth, in his new "international" role has been rudely awakened to the fact that Thailand is not the perfect, superior, isolated paradise and does have to answer to world opinion - like it or not.
He must be acutely aware that, in the eyes of the rest of the world, the disgraceful actions of the R.T.P. have caused Thailand and therefore he, as it's representative, severe embarrassment and, being that this man is far from stupid, he might just have decided to throw them to the wolves in an attempt to regain international credibility.
If I'm right, and time will tell, he will have made a very shrewd move.
He will have cemented his status as a true statesman whilst also salvaging the reputation of Thailand, ensuring that the Thai military are firmly in control of events and allowing the first real shakeup of the worthless R.T.P.
I'm only speculating, of course, but it would indeed be a fascinating scenario if it turns out to be true.........................
