  1. PS I'm also getting a problem on the browser route, with it not accepting the combination of my username (Route21) and my password, despite having deliberately reset my password via the app route. Will follow up with separate post.

Found a cure for this one also.

Found that it only gave problems if I had "remember me" ticked. So, in the browser settings, I deleted all saved passwords (a real pain). Tried logging in again and, even with "remember me" ticked, no further problems.

Again, hope this helps anyone with similar problems.

  2. PS I can't tell whether it's the app or the browser version that's triggering off the notifications; and I've no idea where to turn off notifications in the (android) browser version.

Eventualy found a "notifications" item in the Android Task manager/apps info section. Don't really need email notifications as I access the app often enough. Turned it off. Problem solved.

    Hope this helps others.

  3. Not to forget:

Is there something wrong with the Ipad application for Thai visa, things are missing, unable to report posts or edit profile settings?

Interesting to hear of your problem with profile settings. I have no problem on my android system with changing the settings.

The problem I have is that, being overwhelmed by emails every time one of my "favourites" received a reply, I turned off "notifications".

I am still getting deluged with individual favorite upddated emails, with no way left to turn them off (as the system says they are already turned off)!

Firing up the browser version doesn't help either.

  4. Yes. It's still happening.

I get the menu, from which I select "edit", I get a message "receiving from server" which then changes to "processing". It never makes it to the edit mode. If I touch the screen whilst it's in "processing" mode, it drops me back out of the editing cycle.

The "processing" screenshot was done 1st, but I thought you might want the "receiving" one also, so I had to repeat the exercise to get one (hence the reverse sequence of the shots).

  6. Don't know what this is or where to find it!

The clipboard is a temporary storage location. What you have "copied to the clipboard" can be pasted somewhere else by selecting the location where you want to paste it and keeping your finger/pen on the screen till the "paste" command pops up. Copying anything else will overwrite what's currently on the clipboard.

    Hope this helps.

  7. "It causes cancer."

Not sure where you got your info about coffee vs cancer but, according to Wiki:

    "Health benefits

Coffee consumption has generally been shown to have little or no impact on cancer development.

Other studies suggest coffee consumption reduces the risk of prostate cancer, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, Parkinson's disease, heart disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, cirrhosis and gout."

    See http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee

Also, here in Thailand, I believe many "fruit juices" contain significant amounts of salt and/or sugar. Check the labels to see how much (it's regularly written in Thai).

Me? I prefer jasmine-flavoured green tea (no milk/sugar). Works out at about 1฿/pint!

  8. Just a quick follow up to this, we can arrange an on site demo for serious customers. Just let us know when and where, and we'll be at your pool with a demo unit.

    Gil

I might be a serious customer if I had a ball park idea of the price of the unit, as we are in Phetchabun, which would involve around a 600 kms round trip from Bangkok if a demo were involved.

  9. Try the vitamin B12 trick. Its good for mozzies and most things that sting. You need to take 2 a day. Takes about 2wks to start.  It gives out a smell that we can't detect but the insects can.

2 x B12's/day for keeping the mozzies away? What size? I'm interested in trying it out. Not keen on using DEET - and it smells terrible!

  10. Thank you for your reply, Quickmill and Route21. I wish, we have coffee together.

I think I'll have to pass on the invitation to drink any coffee beans that have been "meticulously selected" from the droppings of wild civet cats!

Reminds me of the dung beetles that some Thais eat. I was once passing by a house up country and heard an intermittent screeching. I asked what was going on and was told it was grandma cleaning the dung beetles. As she grabs each one, she stares it in the eye and screams. It scares the xxxx out of them!

  11. Turkish coffee it's particular because they use the finest grade of coffee ground

Just for clarification, by "finest" grade I believe that you mean that it is ground to the "finest" powder rather than that they use only the "best" quality/grade of beans (which could be a subjective judgement)? ;-)

  12. Is this true that Turkish and Arabic "coffees"  also very different from western coffees???

They're also very different from each other.

The Turkish coffee I'm used to is very strong and brewed on a stove in a pot that resembles a ladle. The resulting mix is poured, grounds and all, into an "espresso"-sized cup. It's thick and opaque due to the grounds, which settle to the bottom of the cup. I've ended up with painful kidney stones on two occasions after drinking such strong coffee in quantity.

The Arabic (Saudi - "Al-Qahwa") coffee that I've had is totally different - it's really delicious. It's lightly roasted and seasoned with cardamom. It's transparent and served in small handle-less cups - see (full-size) second photo. It's traditionally brewed in a specially shaped pot or "dallah" over a bed of charcoal and regularly served on ceremonial occasions by a specially dressed waiter.

For more details of both see the following wiki references:

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_coffee

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_coffee

I've also attached a photo of miniatures of the two different coffee pots. The one on the left is the Turkish "Cezve"; the one on the right a traditional Arabic "dallah".

  13.

An easy question, difficult to answer. In very simple terms: it depends. I know, not much help, but I can give you the numbers for our coffee drinking habits.

    Equipment we use:

    - Moccamaster filter machine/perculator http://www.technivorm.com/products/brewers_for_home-use/kbgt_741_polished_silver/ (BTW, an excellent perculator that will probably last a lifetime)

    - Hario Mini Mill MSS-1B

We normally drink our coffee in mugs (~200ml each). For 2 mugs of coffee, I use between 40 and 60 grams of fresh beans, ground medium-fine. It depends on the beans, roast, etc.

That's exactly what I was looking for.

Very many thanks for your quick reply.

  14.

yes nongs husband is german, the blends are expresso, classical taste, unique strong, and extra smooth.

    Just 2 quick questions:

    1. Roughly how many "cups" of coffee do you get from your 250 gm packet and

    2. Roughly what would you consider as a your typical "cup" volume of coffee ("caffes" that I've had in Italy were very strong and served in what I would consider to be more like a thimble!).

Turkish and Arabic "coffees" are also very different from western coffees.

    Many thanks
