thanks the info - do you know why xanax is off limits? my consulatant back in the uk prescribes 0.25mg twice a day when the ring gets bad - i actually suffer from a acoustic neuroma (a tumour in the ear). its worth a try if you suffer as bad a i do

sorry to sound a bit thick but where is the rat-u-tit rd?

    jason

In Patong Rat-u tit rd is the big road which parallels the beach rd. It's also know as song roi pee rd(200 pee)

If you can't get what you need there go to the Bangkok Phuket hospital. They have a wider array of imported pharmaceuticals.

Thanks for the info on the tinitus.

  2. can anyone recommend a good pharmacy on the island?

and is it possible to get prescription drugs without a prescription? as i need

to buy some xanax for my tinitus - they guy in the local pharmacy said that

i would need a prescription, but then offered to sell me valium!!

i'm currently staying at surin beach, but plan to move to kata beach next

week....so any advice would be great.

    jason

Try all the pharmacies along rat-u-tit rd. Though I seem to remember xanax being off limits for a while.

I never tried xanax, I've got pretty bad tinitus too.

You could also just go to the bangkok phuket hospital and consult with a doc and get a prescription.

Is xanax normally prescribed for tinitus?

Don't bother with the private clinics in Patong. They are horrible rip offs. They try to gouge you for 4000baht a consultation.

The bankok phuket hospital charges 500 baht a consultation!

  3. Forgive my ignorance as well, I didnt understand what you were asking!!!!

Perhaps he was Gay and fancied you and was pissed cause you bought your wife.. :o

I've eaten at the red onion quite a few times and in fact one of the waiters is gay.

    The food is good.

    ZHALKAU: get over it!

  4. I've been considering buying a body suit to swim in because of the sea nettles. The jet-skis chop them up and you often feel these tiny little skin irritations which don't leave any marks.

I've seen the little fleas things in some place. They are more rare.

The nettles can be quite long and if you get stung on the lip can be painful.

When scuba diving note that nearly all the instructors and dive masters wear full suits.

I wear a full 1mm suit for scuba diving and just tough it out swimming.

But I think another body suit is in my future.

  5. 24/7 is the word for Patong. Lot's of conveniences are available all day long.

I live in the Patong Tower which is in the center of it all. Rent here is a little expensive but it's just a 2 minute walk to the beach.

    10 minutes to Karon

    15 minutes to Kata

    25 minutes to Nai harn

    25 minutes to Chalong

    20 minutes to Phuket town.

    40 minutes to the Airport.

    There are now 2 Starbucks

    Jungleceylon is opening now.

BTW ThaiVisa is not the best Thailand forum for expats. PM me if you want addresses.

If I posted them here I would be banned for life. They ban people here for burping too loud!

  6. Taxi fare from Patong to Chalong is 350-400. The 500 the tuktuk cnuts charge is a pure ripoff.

It's 500-600 for a taxi to the airport!

Check around some of the hotels find the independent taxi guys. They are much more reasonable.

collect a few phone numbers. The Patong resort, Montana hotel and many others

  7. If you enjoy the modern conveniences and want to close to a wide variety of beaches, nightlife, restaurants, deli, and many housing options, Patong Beach offers much. The town itself is busy and noisy but there are many quiet neighborhoods to live in.

Driving between Kamala and Patong is dark and dangerous at night. Many people have been hurt. Low season surf in that area makes the beaches dangerous. At least one person drowns every year.

  8. The freshest tyres should always go on the front.

I buy my tyres from dealers who offer free tire rotation as part of the deal.

Rotating your tyres every 5-10K km will nearly double the life of the tyres.

Proper inflation is also key to making your tyres last.

If you're driving on tyres that are already showing "cord" you are an accident waiting to happen!

  9. As a young corner worker at a race track in West Virginia at the end of a Porsche club event, I got a ride in a 934 race car. We were hitting 300kph before braking for the first turn. The g-forces were amazing! My shoulders hurt from hitting the harness so hard during the braking g's.

Driving real fast here in Thailand isn't too smart. I've had a motorcycle here up to 150kph which about max safe speed here for any of the roads here.

In the US I've opened up an FJ1200 to 250kph.

  10. Not knowing the nature of your biz, I suspect there would be other ways to to get name recognition for significantly less money.(and not ruin the ride of your truck)

The 100K you're talking about could go a long way in stickers, brochures, big lighted signs ect.

I wonder how much that big billboard in front of central rents for? Now that would be some exposure!

  11. I'm after either 20" or 22" full set with tyres.

The design is called "spinner" i beleive , to describe.. the fixed alloy has an independant "spinner" attatched.

    One problem i see so far is cost, 22" 140,000 Baht and 20" 98,000 ! a set.

This was from the goodyear place on the way to Phuket town from Thalang.

Anyone other suggestions on where to go ?

    Thx

:D Who are you trying to impress with such a ridiculous addition to your truck.

You're just going to ruin the ride with the low profile tyres. All show an no go. Good way to look stupid spending money like that. IMHO! :o

But what the hey it's your truck go for it!

I buy my tyres from that goodyear place. They provide good after sale service.

  12. perhaps just being a farang with more money than them?

That's probably a big reason the fuses are so short sometimes.

But a lot of the farang tourists act like complete tits too sometimes.

I've seen a couple of drunken brawls between some brits or aussies. (probably started as disagreement over the number of dimples a certain football player has!)

The veneer of the Land of Smiles is very thin sometimes.

With the amount of amphetamine and alcohol consumed it's a wonder more incidents don't happen.

  13. Especially as Chalong circle is just a stones throw away from the police station. If he was able to get a moto taxi home it probably wasn't that late either so there would still be a fair amount of people and activity around there.

Have you ever been past Chalong Circle after about 9-10pm? It may only be about 50mtrs to the Police station but theres no one on the circle excpet for a few motobike taxi's. You seriously think the motobike taxi riders would interfere if a group of Thais are kicking the sh1t out of some farang for not being able to pay a fare?

I've seen all kinds of stuff going on at the circle, after 10pm, and the cops are no where to be seen. If anything being that close to the police station offers them some kind of protection (the old adage about the safest place to speed is near the police station cos they wont stop you in case your one of them!)

Well I'm just agreeing that there is more than meets the eye here.

I've tangled it up once with a gang of thai guys. I would have ended up in the hospital too(actually I did got to the hospital to get some glass removed from my ear, I had the windows of my car smashed in while I was in it) had it not been early in the evening and plenty of people around and the police showed up quick.

I was a bit drunk and provoked the altercation.

And around 9-10 pm there are still quite a few people around Chalong circle. There's the restaurant, the little market and kareoke crowd.

This unfortunate guy was drunk and pushed the wrong buttons.

These thai tuktuk jerks are <deleted> but you have to do something to set them off.

  14. There has got to be more to this story.

Especially as Chalong circle is just a stones throw away from the police station. If he was able to get a moto taxi home it probably wasn't that late either so there would still be a fair amount of people and activity around there.

  15. . At least labor is cheaper here than in the West.

You can get major modifications done here pretty reasonably.

I've got a highly modified old Land Rover and I wanted to put in a locker and rear dics.

I had a set of nissan axles under it.

I ended up buying a set of axles from a Lancruiser Prado. The axles came with a locker in the rear, dics and all the coil springs. So I'll end up with coil springs too. All for under 100K including parts and labor.

  16. There is no real law here. Now I come from the USA and there is no real law there either, but it is at least a bit more consistent. Where else can one go to get police help and also get robbed, than at a thai police station?

Actually your legal rights here are about the same as the USA. In both cases you need a lawyer to walk you though it. It's just a little cheaper to get out of trouble here. A good lawyer here costs around 3000baht an hour as opposed to five times that in the USA.

  17. Check with your local 4x4 modifiers. You should be able to do it.

You might be able just to bolt up the rear disc brakes from a land cruiser prado onto your rear axle. You can shop for the parts at a salvage yard.

You could also check to make sure the proportioning valve is functioning properly on your drum brakes.

And you could change the automatic proportioning valve for a manual proportioning adjuster.

Also the self adjusters might not be working correctly.

  18. A long shot -- If anyone knows of a cancellation or possibility of a room in Patong from 28/12 - 3/1 ( 7 nights ) please let me know. Up to B4,000 / night is ok.

Any help would be appreciated -- thanks

This is almost certainly those <deleted> that are sending E-mails out that we read about last week.

There is a report on TV about the scam. Something to do with dodgy visa cards it said.

4000 baht! CASH and you can have my room.

strolling has been very civil within my PMs to him

say what you will, the jury is still out.

  19. You can also try in Chalong Immigration Office. Not as hectic as Phuket Town Office and "full" Immigration Office (unlike Patong, which is actually Tourist Police).

Really where are they? It would be very nice not to have to deal with the Phuket Town immigration.

I've been here three years and this is the first time I've heard about it!
