  1. The migrant laborers here aren't petty criminals.

Actually there is very little petty crime here compared to the USA.

For the most part the migrant workers are just grateful to be here and have jobs. They aren't robbers and muggers.

If they were we'd be seeing a crime wave that would be unimaginable.

The BIB stomp them hard when they do.

Here we don't have every negro or mexican on a street corner with a video camera.

Who you have to watch for are the shady BGs and LBs late at night if you're drunk and wandering around. The chances of getting "rolled" are pretty good(why would I know that?). But that would be the same anywhere in the world!

Occasionally there will be a rash of burglaries in the Chalong area but again IMHE the BIB are on them like flies on you know what!

  2. I'm still renting but looking to buy a bike so could not get an insurance. What the rental shop offered was just something basic to cover theft and damages to the bike.

I did have a look at an insurance brooker and they offered insurance for bike owners, the coverage was:

Third party bodily injury or death: 200,000/person 10,000,000/accident

    Third party property damage: 400,000/occurance

    Personal accident driver: 10,000/person

    Medical expenses driver: 10,000/person

    Bail Bond: 200,000/occurence

    Deductable: 500/claim

Cost 3,105 to 3,317 per year depending size of bike.

The brooker I checked with was PCD Consultants in Pattaya, they represented Thai Zurich Insurance Co and QBE Insurance Co. Similar coverage and costs.

    email: [email protected]

    Ph: 038-422-825

Not sure if they have any offices outside Pattaya.

    Very useful info!

I've been wondering about what my current agent is selling.

I'd like to get 1st class insurance for my bigger bike.

  3. You are a complete joke yourself "Cat in the hen house"?

How about "Dead cat in slime full of money leech" or other way "Hen in the cat house"?

sorry, mate i been living in patong long enough and seen enough of them try playing their crappy

    games on naive tourists

"DUDE" man do you have chip on your shoulder.

Remember: "Where ever you go there you are"! :D

If you are constantly in "attack" mode you should be able to take a joke.

Right now you just make an easy target. :o:D

Have you checked the resorts in Egypt yet? I hear the Red Sea is absolutely fabulous. :D

  4. tough question.

If you don't have any money you will go to jail if you stop.

If you stop and the person is dead it will take about 500K to get out of it.

If you don't have the money and go to court you will serve a sentence for manslaughter in a Thai prison!

    Your insurance doesn't cover manslaughter.

If the person is injured and you stop you will pay medical expenses and lost wages for that person. If they are disabled by the accident...bigger doo doo!

1st class insurance will cover some.

    Drive carefully out there.

If you're smart along with insurance you should retain a Thai lawyer just in case.

  5. I've got a big BMW and just go ahead and ride on the freeways. When the policeman waves me down I look the other way pretending not to see him.

They won't chase you because it's a waste of time for them. And they couldn't catch a large bike with those little Phantoms anyway.

I don't do it a lot but I've talked with other BMW guys and this is what they do.

Riding in and out of Bangkok is a PITA even on the freeways.

I'm told things can be tricky on the toll roads. But even then if you are ready to pay the toll and bluff, it can be done.

Also if you do stop and get fined, the fine is 300 baht not the 2000 what they ask for!

Pretend to ignore the policeman, it's pretty common practice.

  6. A 5 year old truck probably needs new belts alternator power steering ect.. Check the tension of the belts but 5 years is about the life expectancy for belts even if it doesn't have many mile.

If the squealing gets worse when you turn on the light, wipers and A/C is a clue that the alternator belt is slipping.

Another trick is to take an aerosol can of WD40 type product and spray it on the belts. This is only a very temporary fix though.

  7. If your not pretty accepting of others ways of doing things maybe this isn't the right medium for you. Everyone has a right to their opinions even if they don't match MINE! :D

My point exactly that perhaps Thailand isn't the right country for the "DUDE"!

I think a nice tolerant country like Egypt would be more to his liking. :o

  8. ah, of course. Someone posts about coming to Thailand for three months so they must be looking for "chicks" :o

:D Either chicks, guys or ladyboys.

I agree with markg that no self respecting thai girl will want to be seen on a 9000 baht honda dream!

To impress the ladies you gotta have the Phantom! :D

  9. Thanks, was just asking as I though I had seen them at the airport.

Only Phuket Town? Would the Patong office be a possibility?

    Thank you for your help.

You can ask but to my knowledge the Patong office doesn't have much authority over non-immigrant visas which is what I'm assuming you have.

If it's a question of adding multiple entries to a tourist I don't know.

Patong mainly just gives tourist visa extensions and issues residence certifications.

If you're in Patong it's easy enough to ask them as they are pretty easygoing and not as hectic as the Phuket town office.

  10. The small office in Patong is the easiest an least crowded.(on beach road across from TMB)

Long lines lately at the Phuket office with people handling their non-immigrant visas.

You will need a passport picture and a photo copy of your passport and visa page and 2000 baht.

They will gladly do the copy and picture at the office too for an extra fee.

And the Phuket office has moved. It is now across the street while they renovate the old office.

  11. Not so unbelievable.. ever been to Hua Hin .. ?

    totster :o

Yea I used to stay at the Railway hotel on a regular basis 30 years ago.

I visited again last year and couldn't leave fast enough!

  12. This is a very touchy subject!

Trust me it is best to remain non confrontational with the tuktuk <deleted>.

Give them the 100 baht as necessary but you can refuse the 100 baht per person surcharge they've been trying on for size lately.

Personally I just smile say no thank you and do business with taxi drivers with cars and A/C! Or just mototaxis for 20 baht.

  13. I thought I'd heard it all until I heard about this!

Some half a$$ed tour company carts their customers out to some field near Phang Nga where they give them rides in little carts pulled by donkeys!

Donkey tours!!!! :o unbelievable but then again TIT! :D

  14. Hi,

I was wondering if it`s possible to get to visit Railay beach and Phra Nang from Phuket in a day trip?

    Thanks Di

No not unless you are masochistic. :o

If your are into masochism special trips can be arranged. In Phuket everything is possible! :D

  15. I have 2 decades of experience working both sides of the fence.

so you've got 5 yrs on me then :D

however, i did spend 8 yrs on a a couple of lots that did a 100 a week so have seen a few go by :D

And there is always something new to learn, n'est ce pas? :o

  16. It's really sad to hear of a 12 year old dying so early in life.

But the accident statistics here are staggering. Nearly one person dies every day from a motorbike accident. There are over 12000 motorbike accidents here every year.

    It's very scary out there.

Also it's seems like these kids are going faster and faster all the time. They're tuning up their machines to go as fast as possible. It's a significant side business tuning up scooters to go fast.

  17. 16.5K +7% tax= 17,700 Bhat. Even it's nice residence, still i need somewhere under 10K for 2 months stay. More recommandation thanks

I know of some Ladyboys in Patong looking for roomates! :o

There are also several housing units off Nanai road that rent mostly to BGs. You would be like the "cat in the hen house". :D

Prices range in the 4-5K a month. If you're on a tight budget it's doable.
