Surly calling it "OA" is the right terminology.
You have to be over 50 years og age, but you do not have to be retirerede.
It is possible to have your income from your home country, without retirement.
But you are "Retired in Thailand" in the eyes of the Thais.
I.E. not working here, not earning income here, lounging on the beach here, year after year.

You quite clearly entered on a Non Imm O-A Visa.
That is clearly stated as the type of Visa.
Have you ever bothered to actually read it.
Nowhere does it state Retirement............that is a figment of your imagination.
I cannot understand those who continually criticise others who choose to use the correct terminology.
So please list all the reasons (other than Retirement) which satisfy the Reasons for the Thais to issue an OA Visa.

Retired year after year yes, but not on a Retirement Visa.
Yes but that's what I entered on and was stamped in (annotated OA) for two years.
And please stop confabulating Mr NES - I never called an Extension a Visa.
When in Thailand ...

So you still think the Thais are wrong 55555!

An extension isn't a Visa, and you can't extend a Visa.
Doh!
That's what the Thais call an Extension you get after 2 years on a Retirement OA Visa.
They didn't paint "Extension for over 50" or "Extension for Long stay Aliens" on the Immi Office window.
But of course "they're wrong" - get over your Falang view on this.

It may well be the wording they use, but it is incorrect as I am sure you will realise, there is no requirement to be retired, over 50 years old however.......................
If you're living here year after year without working you reckon you're not "retired" ?

Australia is the only Thai Embassy website to my knowledge that refers to an O-A Visa as a Retirement Visa.
All other Embassy websites refer to the O-A Visa as a 'Long Stay Visa'
Well that's where I got several OA Retirement Visas.
Thai Visas issued by Thais.
You as a Farang can call it what you like - won't impress the Thais.
Retirement Extensions is even painted on the window of the Phuket Immi office.
Being "over 50" is only one of many requirements.

You mean based on being over 50 years of age?
No!
I mean a Retirement Visa as described in the nomenclature of The Royal Thai Embassy Canberra.
Visa for Passport Holder of Australia

Covered parking for 50+ cars right outside the Immi office.
There is a security checkpoint on the road in - probably closed road at night.

Or the photo copy shop beside Immigration will sort it for a fee.....I used a agent in Soi Post Office, haggled the price to 18000, as the first one is a pain as getting the O Visa outside your home country is not officially allowed, after that I do the renewal's myself easy.....
Really!?
It's perfectly legal to get a Non-Immi O visa at a neighbouring (to Thailand) Consulate or Embassy.
Thousands have done it for far cheaper than 18,000 baht.

Oh! Wow! And, this is what makes me mad. There is a law, it is abused openly, and no one does anything about it. Wow! No wonder we get kicked to the ground.
Has anyone ever broached this topic with higher ups, like the Minister of Immigration (if there is such a thing) or the PM? Do Expats in Thailand have any national advocacy group? If not, is there anyone interested? Of course, one could remove the law the next time around as a result, but when there are clear violations of laws, if expats had lawyers, an advocacy group to challenge some of the decisions, it could help. Of course, you would need to have someone with an immaculate record, an untouchable, as it were.
You'll die early if you can't adjust to the way Thais do things - this ain't Kansas Dorothy.
Besides just as the border Immi officers have the right to admit or refuse entry so do some Immi officers believe they have a similar right.
I don't like it sometimes but they will win in any case where the interpretation is up to them or their superiors.
They are going on the Thai Order, not its (sometimes ambiguous) translation.

You seem to be worried about the taxi cost for waiting time.
Where are you coming from?
Why not hire the taxi for the day?

As posted above tell your brother to stop being so obdurate and start with a Non-Immi O Visa as the original gazetted Police Order requires.
He wont win this particular battle!
Not all Immi offices or Immi officers want to do the conversion from other than a Non-Immi O visa.
Also advise him to not to "shout the odds"!

Thai Immigration is situated at the start of the Andaman pier to the boats (about 100m walk or take the golf cart).

Please put one on right now and do us all a favour. Anybody who wears crocs publicly has lost the will to live or the right to respect.
Can you loan me one?
As posted I gave all mine away.
And I can't find a store on Phuket that sells them as there is no demand for them.

The Andaman club route is an armchair ride compared to clambering over 10+ longtails to get yours to Kawthung.

I guess you're a Pom who wears wellies and longjohns to the beach.

The only thing you need is the letter from the Embassy that is valid for 6 months.
Until you're asked at Immi to prove it.
It's happening ...

You can get copy Crocs in plain colours to match your outfit.
This is the Tropics - I don't wear anything else, anywhere.
I'd rather die than have to wear a tie.

When I moved to Phuket I gave away all my ties and suits as I knew I was moving to a seaside resort.
You seldom see any Thais here wearing a tie - when in Rome ...

The irony here is that in Phuket many of the Immi officers wear official golf shirts with tracksuit pants and thongs (flip flops) (underneath the desks).
So that blows the respect theory to smithereens.
They have taken down their dress code signs.

Rather than send a SMS overseas my bank issued a random OTP generator token which changes every minute.
But I come from a small country down under.

Bangkok bank daily cash rate.
So if you use the tt rate in your calculations Immi will be lower.
-
Another common nomenclature stuff up - asking for an OA Visa when an O Visa based on retirement will do as a requirement for a one year Extension based on retirement, from within Thailand.
