That'a a VERY expensive fuel-dump. 12 hours of avgas needing to be dumped to reach a safe landing weight..holy cow. Anyone knows what happens to the fuel at altitude after it's dumped? Just out of interest.
Let's hope they didn't load avgas into a jet.
You took the words right out of my mouth. For the uninformed, Avgas is petrol, used by piston engined aircraft like small private Cessna's. All jets use a kerosene type fuel known as Jet A-1 of Avtur if your a military type. Dumped fuel evaporates and disperses in the atmosphere so don't worry, it's not going to contaminate your Goldfish pond.
Good idea the AirAsia jet returned to Bangkok. Safety first. - MOONLOVER, you wrote: 'Dumped fuel evaporates and disperses in the atmosphere so don't worry, it's not going to contaminate your Goldfish pond...' - But maybe, I don't like that smell and I have noticed it quite often in the past.
Have a Happy New Year.

not sure if village wedding is even on the cards, I think my GF is expecting a bit of a swanky bash unfortunately, she is Thai Chinese so not sure if that makes a difference at all,
Yes, that does make a difference.
So hotel wedding it is. And they will not want to force all guests to go all the way to Chiang Mai.
So it'll be a hotel or resort in/near Phrae.
Really they will have ideas on this already. You could try for a resort a little out of town, if you can find one.
Winnie said it: 'Really they will have ideas on this already.' - Just ask your Mrs...
I think this would be the most important point.
Btw MaeYom Palace: 'Best of what Phrae has to offer, proper sleepy town that it is..'
There are some other hotels too. Have a search.
And sleepy town? It's after midnight and some people aren't sleeping.
There are some 'farangs' in and around Phrae too, so might be a good Idea to let us
know here on TV or via PM how / if we could help.
Good luck.
P.S. You might read 'jaapfries' personal post again, concerning a village wedding.
But it seems Mrs Ourmanflint likes the hotel action best. Sure, there are advantages. OK.

Why don't use a big bamboo? No joke.
And to erect it you might find a lot of good advice
at www.youtube.com 'maibaumaufstellen' .
Maybe your neighbour will need some strong
locals and a lot of beer for this action...

OP: ‘ but even in Pattaya, Hua Hin etc.., I see a disproportionate farang smokers ’
I think because it’s Pattaya, Hua Hin etc… - Or do you doubt about it?
You told us about e-cigarettes. I don’t have any experience and I do not want any experience
with that too. Already post #2 asked: Advertising? – What’s the OP’s answer?
Post #12 ‘Thai females also smoke in Thailand i have noticed, and long may it continue…’
That’s really upsetting. Maybe you’re not talking about cigarettes but it’s strange in any case.
And just one more sentence to Ace of Pop, #66: Not all non smokers (as you) are Control Freaks.
I deprecate such a statement for myself and all the people I know.
And I could ask nisakiman: ‘What stuff are you smoking?’ - but better not.
I feel free to ignore your post # 71. Just ignore.
Have a good evening, with or without smoke.
Some info ‘smoke and PM10 and fires’:
http://aqicn.org/map/thailand/

I have not smoked for over 40 years end of subject only idiots smoke
I have smoked for over 42 years end of subject only idiots smoke
Back to the OP: I noticed that over the years most of the Thai people
in my environment have stopped smoking. - No opinion concerning
Farang smokers in Thailand. - Don't know/meet enough people to judge.
Those people I meet are non-smokers with only one exception.
-
Be careful my farang friend. Notwithsanding your well-intended rescue, it may be seen by "observers" as Farang aggression against a Thai man, and you find out suddenly out of nowhere 5 or 6 of his friends commence giving you a beating.
Well said. Happened to me 10 years ago. Consequence 11 days hospital. - Take off your hands. All the same. Women or men, Farang or Thai.
-
Departing Thailand on a British Passport with no entry stamp shouldn't be a problem as the above already said.
Years ago in a similar situation I felt a lot of understanding from the Thai officers. - Just to be sure your wife might
give the immigration a friendly phone call what they would be thinking about it...
Btw why not apply for a Thai passport at a consulate/embassy in the UK (if you have all the paperwork with you) ?
---Good luck for you and your family.---

Geordie, are you still there?
The range of this bird, the Asian Koel, does not extend into most of Isaan. So move to Roi Et and you will get the aural relief you crave.
Briggsy, the ranges in Isan given in Lekagul and Round are out=of-date, and were anyway mostly guesswork. In Buriram we have masses of Koels (I somehow don't think that's the right collective noun!), and I doubt whether they are any rarer in Roi Et.
Aristide, I lived in Chiangmai for 15 years before moving to Buriram, so I think I can (while not being Thai) reasonably claim to speak for both. I was staying in a village near Omkoi once, and asked my host why were no birds, and his answer was, "Karen kin mot".... but then he was Karen.
Many years ago, I worked in a factory in Ayutthaya.
The staff came from all over Thailand. The ones from deep Isaan had no idea of the koel sound. The others from south, north and central did.
Robson which is more recent than Lekagul and Round still has koels absent from a large chunk of Isaan.
Buri Ram gets load of species that are vacant from the stony and deforested lands in Yasothon, Roi Et, Mahasarakham, eastern Khon Kaen, etc.
I have never seen or heard a koel in this "poor soil" region.
I am fairly confident koel relief can be had in Roi Et for the OP.
'Buri Ram gets load of species that are vacant from the stony and deforested lands in Yasothon, Roi Et,
Mahasarakham, eastern Khon Kaen, etc' - Really?
'I have never seen or heard a koel in this "poor soil" region.' - Might be the same area wherefrom we got
the smoke over the last weeks here in Phrae province...
In our garden we also have this nice bird and over the years many different birds decided to live there.
Don't know if this community is always peaceful. But at least, they know there is nobody shooting them.
It's a good feeling.
Btw, there is another thread on Koels
http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/703418-to-kill-a-koel-bird/page-3#entry7504639
not out-of-date.

OP - Mr Hammer, how are You today? - This might be no help, but at our place the GowWow is only one bird amongst
many others. And so the sound is easily to endure. It all depends: not too frequent, not too loud.
Btw, many good ideas posted here, some relly funny, crazy. OK.
Just to comfort you: in my village people breed more and more roosters that croak, scream, shrill as heck.
No chance to get rid of them by normal means. Of course I could press some wax in my ears, close every window
and every door, at day, at night, only live airconditioned or wear a shooting mask drawn above my head. No.
'And They're coming to take me away Ha Ha
They're coming to take me away ho ho he he ha ha
to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time, and I'll be happy to see those nice young men
in their clean white coats
and they're coming to take me away ha ha...To the happy home with trees and flowers and chirping birds...
Really bad, I think I'll have to move in the near future.
Take care, MrHammer.
(and wolfmuc too.)

Maybe to can help you put in a new battery at Amorn.
.
Thanks for this, terminatorCM, found the address. ChiangMai, Branch50 CarreFour. Next time I'll visit CM
I'll try it out. Have a similar problem like/as 'davidstipek'. - Sometimes it's really strange. Modern Times.
And David, don't forget ‘Boil it Cook it, Peel it or Forget it’.

Somebody need to get other countries involved as Thailand is a contributor to this but are not the major cause of it.
Real Time Photo. Red is Fires.
I'm actually wondering if it is fully established that local (Thailand/Burma) fires are the major factor? We see it change for the worse almost from one day to the next with a change in weather / prevailing wind directions in Feb/March. Seeing that China is having incredible smog issues the same time, I'm wondering if it isn't a case of all that crap moving South due to weather patterns in March and worsening local burning conditions.
On he other hand we see places like Lampang being hit before Chiang Mai gets hit so that might point to causes more close to the region, not China.
I have the same thoughts about smog drifting from China. Would be nice to ask a specialist. -
And yes, there will be many reasons for our situation, even if it might be completely different in
CR, CM, Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Phayao, Nan or Phrae.
Over the last weeks I noticed not only an huge amount of Cambodian fires, but there were a lot of
places in Isaan too where people started burning as usual. Very bad.
And some more thoughts @kwaibah:
'This is not a new development but on going history.' -
You're absolutely right concerning the fact there is slash and burn and so on all the time.
But obviously the current situation is a quantity problem. A big one.
'...some photos from the 1970's of this time of year with the same air quality' -
Can't believe we might recognice the air quality through any photo. (?)
Btw, in our little village and surroundings north of Phrae this burning is 'forbidden'.
I don't know who had the idea but it seems to work. In the last weeks I only once
noticed smoke far away. - But the horizon all around is grey, especially in the east.
-
-
I feel sorry for you, boomerangutang, really. - I have a 'similar' problem with crowing faucets/loud roosters. Makes me crazy. Sometimes. Each night. -
Don't know if offering money to the abbot would solve the problem. You should try it nevertheless. -
Better might be to move, at least sometimes. If possible. - Take a trip to the sea or visit friends. Or sleep in a house in the garden, far away from the village...
If you would like to visit our place just send me an PM. Don't be afraid, I / We later would love to hear your wat's music/prayers personally...

It is the same as in the NE and the north also, The farmers are getting greedy. And then there is no water.
The OP said: '...water levels in small canals and irrigation canals have been declining...' . If you think that's because the farmers are too greedy, that's just funny. In the village in the North I'm living in there is a schedule to channel off the water.
The last period ended on Feb 8th and the next one will start at Feb 23rd. The farmers accept it even if they don't like it...
You might be interested to have a look at country life. Send me a PM, I would appreciate your visit, whenever you're
available. (North 18.2/East 100.2)
You might also read 'slapout' - very clear, and 'SOTIRIOS' to this subject.

I would do it like soidog2. - Then, buy a new mango tree.
And don't forget:
'protect from full sun for a while' , for a long while. - Good luck.

On this subject there has been a load of real good advice.Speaking from someone with 40 years custody experience, walk away you will save grief for you and your child if the child survives he will find you when of age, forget any form of legals. If you don't you will be destroyed
But I think Netease has brought it to the point.Thank you for that.
And for you, emibel1, if you're not a troll, my best wishes.
Take care not being destroyed.

Where can I buy chlordane? Is there a brand name?
It's been banned in the US since 1983, probably available at your local farm outlet
Since we started keeping chickens and guinea fowl we've seen a significant reduction in the creepy-crawly population, nice eggs too
Chickens are the best, if you use poison you are a pussy and should live in a condo, I call BS on the poster that said that dogs were killed by them unless the dogs were seriously unhealthy to start with.
It's banned because of its toxicity and persistence of the manufacture, sale and use of chlordane (since 1971 in Germany
and since 1981 in the European Union too). I'm sure not without reason. - These centipedes or scolopendra prefer wet and filthy places.
So tidying up might be a good idea?
They are active predators taking prey as large as rodents and even bats.[3] Their bites are very painful, but are rarely fatal in humans.[4]
The venom is delivered through the animal's forcipules, which lie just behind the mandibles. The venoms of Scolopendra species
contain compounds such as serotonin, haemolytic phospholipase A, a cardiotoxic protein and a cytolysin.[5] - (Wiki)

Thanks everyone for all your help. I don't know the lady in question, she is a friend of my respected Thai colleague, and my researching of the matter is a favor to him.
This might also help your colleague:

Same same, but different.
Economy usually 23 kg, have a look at their website. But it's not so easy:
Three elderly Thai ladies left BKK on May 18 with TG924 in economy class
and their baggage was 27, 29 and 32 kg. Everything ok.
They returned from Munich June 16, TG925 and had to unpack many things
until they came down to 23 kg each of them.
Good luck.

We have a few new members who haven’t posted on this thread. What do you say, where do you live?
May be one of them it's me? - OK, I am 240 km south of Chiang Rai - A.
We are living in a village north of Phrae - B.
And I'll have to do a lot of interesting work to read these 100 posts.
Nice to meet you.
Wolfgang
Nice to meet you Wolfmuc. We have been hearing more from the outlying provinces recently. A lot of interest in Phayao lately for example. Thanks for the map and do you get up to Chiang Rai from time to time?
Thanks for the friendly welcome, 'villagefarang in a valley with a view' and 'Aftrmidnyt in Rim Kok', too. - Years ago I went to Mae Sai very
often, then I had to go to Nan. But I think visiting Chiang Rai would be a very good idea. And on the way up north we will stop at Lake Phayao,
a beautiful place too.
I'll attach 2 pictures, shot near our village. Most part of Phrae province is a wide valley with mountain ranges in the east and in the west.
So we have a very special climate, e.g. we had only 2 or 3 rain showers in the last months. But yesterday the rainy season started.
I'm sure.

Sure life is good in Thailand but the Thai apologists should take off their glasses once in a while and also see how it could improve! By saying CR suffers from 'a little smoke' is a bit silly, for around 3mnths every year there is a blanket of carcinogenic smoke covering CR and the surrounding area which affects each and every person living there with thousands needing medication!
From the OP:
There are a few months from March to about June when it is way too smoky and hot as hell.Is Chiang Rai perfect? Of course not and there will always be farangs who can find something to whine about. But overall I continue to think that it is a hidden gem.Not sure I am a "thai apologist"....whatever that is suppose to be. Rather I do get very weary of reading the constant bashing and prefer to focus more on the positives than on the negatives. Nobody is suggesting that the smoke is desirable but it is certainly not limited to the north of Thailand....check out the pics of Singapore TODAY......Last week - June 19, 2013 in the morning

Train derailed and overturned but doesn't mention details of passengers, if any.
Inaccurate reporting if there were injuries to any passengers.
Why post it?
Have a look http://www.channelne...video/index.php

and overturned in Malaysia on 26 January'

Better try to find a dermatology-clinic or a hospital in your area. All hospitals have ER and usually
are very helpful. And not expensive too.
And do it today! - On Saturday clinics often are working from 9 to 12 a.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m.
Posting a picture might be helpful(?). In which part of TH do you live?
Good luck and get well soon. And don't forget: do it today...
Clinic and hospital not same, same.
