Can I have that monitor lizard please? Plenty of his favorite food around my place and dogs too, I wouldn't mind a quiet night for a change.

I understand very well what you're saying...

But I would prefer a flying monitor lizard, who might reduce the noise of the doves

    and pigeons too.

I am a few provinces down and it's been raining heavily every day for a week. The overall air quality of Northern Thailand is now comparable to Bangkok and that's a huge improvement. It's been a long time since you could say that.

    You're lucky, Mr canopy.

But you can't speak for the whole Northern Thailand, sorry.

It's only a question of time till thunderstorms and rain will arrive north of Uttaradit etc.

Until then we see/hear a lot of lightning and thunder, but feel no rain.

Here is a nice picture of this situation:

This of course adversely affects the profit margins of Chinese herbicide/pesticide manufacturers, their distributors and supply chains, as well as directly affecting Bayer and Dow Agro Sciences.
Two years and these chemicals will be banned, or will they be allowed for another two years?  :ermm:

I think, they will be allowed forever, because the Thai farmers

will be educated in the meantime.

Profit margins? Manus manum lavat. - One hand washes the other one.
In Thailand not to forget Syngenta, the main producer of paraquat.

There is a lot of money and Power involved.

  5. Thanks, Mr vivid,

' normal folks would not think of getting such a PM2.5 meter '.

    But this is very important.

In our provincial capital Phrae we had 160 PM2.5 today.

20 km north of Phrae 'only' about 50-60, inside and outside the house.

So, if you can check this yourself, I think it's much better than watch

    any numbers from somewhere.

Btw, we use two different meters. One is called UNI-T, the other Xiaomi.

Both are always +/- 10 points. - This seems correct for me.

    (prices 1.5/2.4 k Baht)

Read that there are some thunderstorms in NE and N Thailand due to interaction with a high pressure air mass from China, will last till Wed.

    Hope that'll help the situation.

Extended brown/purple conditions are really too much for the poor kids, elderly, sick....... unless they spend their lives totally in an air purifier filtered + AC environment and N95 masks when they are going out.

I hope in the CM-area it's better now.

Here in Phrae much better than before:

But I'm afraid, these thunderstorms will not travel too much north:

So it's all China's fault. How convenient. ...

    Yes, right.

Of course not only China's fault. As an old hand you will know the other sources.

But for many members it might be too difficult to learn all these different reasons for

    smog in our area.

This video might be a good start, especially for some only Thai understanding/speaking people.

And if anyone might change the situation,  I would think it's only the Thais.

Here are more links, some already well-known:

  10. Excellent statement, mrmillersr.

And it's not only Chiang Mai. Depending on the time of the year and the wind directions

the entire north is concerned, or the northeast or Greater Bangkok.

When Indonesia is burning then the south of Thailand is in big trouble too.

So, also speaking to Mr Gweiloman, there is not so much green on this map

  11. Yesterday morning north of Phrae we 'had' inside 275, outside 334.

    Today only 120/130. - PM2.5 - Wonderful to breathe.

    Healthy <100?

I'm very happy now at 9.30 PM with 56.

    The OP:

'PM2.5 – airborne particulates 2.5 microns or less in diameter – reached 102 micrograms per cubic metre of air in Phrae Monday morning and the Air Quality Index (AQI) level was 212, while PM10 hit 132 micrograms, according to the Pollution Control Department (PCD).

The safe limits set in Thailand are 100 for AQI, 50 micrograms for PM2.5 and 100 micrograms for PM10. '

This nonsense has got much more readers:

Poll: Thais want better living standards

Big Joke: Swedes arrested after quarter of a billion baht money laundering operation

So what, if you don't have good air to breathe you'll have to die, sooner or later.

    Good Luck.

  12. Dear Mr/Mrs brommers,

' 120\130 is hardly good. It is in fact rated unhealthy for sensitive groups. "

    D'accord.

But if the alternative would be ' inside 275, outside 334' I would prefer

    an 120 reading.

This night here north of Phrae 'only' 46 with the air purifier working, and

    now outside 67 !

    Wonderful.

    Breathing is possible again.

If the Pm2.5 numbers will rise again we might meet at Mae Moh entrance to discuss

    the situation with?

the Guards?/the Security?/the CEO?. - Or what would you suggest?

Btw, I don't need any numbers froem US, China, RU or where ever.

I have my nose, my eyes and an PM2.5-meter to check it out.

And today is quite good, especially in comparison with the last days.

    You guys finally got me.

Today is the worst air I have ever seen any place in this country since I moved to Thailand five years ago.

I actually can feel it when I take a deep breathe.

May I ask where you are?

  15. Temperamental Member - 'It's a lot worse now.'

    Any idea why? - Thanks.

    Burning/Clearing forests?

    Slash and Burn?

    Is it farmers fault?

    Is it traffic?

Or could this perhaps be a lignite power plant?

The EGAT-People in Mae Moh said today to my wife, there is forest-clearing

in Amphoe Long (and for that we have continuous smog in and around Phrae...).

    OK?

    Thanks for the link.

Just another observation. Last Tuesday I drove from Rongkwang to Chiang Mai.

On the '103' there was 'fog' till Ngao. Then on the '1' there was thick fog again

till Lampang. But about 30 km behind Lampang '11' the skies became blue.

    This was in the morning.

On the way back on Wednesday afternoon almost exactly the opposite. Blue skies

from Chiang Mai till Long in Phrae Province on the '1023' and then fog, haze, smog.

Only around Lampang we noticed smoke on two places in the forests.

Following a screenshot from yesterday. And today is's worse.
