Here's another point. Hopefully Thai people will one day wake up to the fact that the people heading ministries (in this case the land transport ministry) who are totally incapable, have no insight whatever, never will have and are not interested.
The whole society revolves around corruption.
As such, there is no government or body that will ever take the necessary measures to reduce the road death toll or implement the kinds of changes you discuss in your post.

Good luck with the digital TV when none of the flat screen TVs sold in Thailand come with digital tuners.
Everyone will have to buy a digital set-top box regardless of what TV they have.
Compare that to the UK and Australia where all TV's sold have built in digital tuners.

A report on the Swedish website Svenska Dagbladet listed Thailand and Turkey as the two tourist destinations with the largest number of Swedish fatalities in both 2009 and 2010
So Thailand is now the most dangerous tourism destination for Swedes, as well as for Brits and Aussies.
The truth is slowly coming out.

Any citizen of any country is subject to Thailands laws, if they do something deemed offensive while in their home country, are put on a watch list, then visit Thailand. You can be arrested, tried, and jailed here. Be very careful of what you say.
That sounds like a threat.

This article is further proof, if any were needed, that the previous PM is a liar and a fraud, and is serving interests other than his party's.

I wonder if you would prefer that governments sue Twitter each time one of its users breaks the law.A sad day for Twitter allowing governments to dictate to them what is acceptable on their website.
I would prefer that governments don't dictate what I can or cannot look at on the internet.

There's little to no assurances even if you're a big business. Just ask that German firm who built the tollway system what happened. The German government had to step in and force the issue of payment after more than a decade of being ignored. Take a look at Carlsberg as well as the current issues over DTAC. If you want to look at smaller businesses who got cheated do a search on that guy who owned the Turkey farm. C.P. came in and basically forced him out. There have been several joint foreign/Thai agribusiness investors who got screwed too. Some of them recently like the joint Taiwanese owned plantation.
There are a lot more stories out there.
Not to mention they still owe Canada for the loan on the BTS in Bangkok.
I think you got your facts mixed up there.... The BTS is owned by a Japanese company... with no debts..
The BTS is still in over B40 billion to B80 Billion in debt depending on who you believe.

Former Prime Minister and businessman Police Lt. Col. Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra had a great way of dealing with drug dealers that was hugely popular and had varying levels of success.

Thai is fantastic for BKK-MEL and BKK-BNE. Newer planes and good service.

Most Thais on the lower end of the wages spectrum are not worth 300thb per day let alone 500thb.
A Burmese or Cambodian will work harder and longer for a third of that.

Several posts mentioning football hooliganism being a Western Cultural phenomenon while seemingly completely unaware of the regular violence and shootings that go on at Thai football grounds, including attacks on the referees and other officials in the Thai Premier League.

Very bad form to name the witness like that.
To be fair, it is just typical stupidity and the lazy, careless journalism we have come to expect.
Hope the noodle vendor does not get into trouble over this stupidity.

Sadly the people just don't have the will or ability to do anything about it. Thailand will end up like the Philippines or Indonesia. Mark my words.
End up like?

Moneyed Thai in immoral, dubious and possibly corrupt dealings overseas non-shock.
Nauseating people.

The Cabinet positions have nothing to do with ability and competence.
They never have.

I've been here 28 years and still import my sponge cake.

When I am back in Thailand I am off up to Nakhon Phanom for a bowl of dog-meat soup, it's a specialty there.
Has anyone visited Sakhon Nakhon to taste dog where it is a delicacy?
It amazes me how articles continue to admit these facts and try to accuse Vietnamese or other countries' demand as the problem for the dog-meat trade in Thailand.

One of, if not the prime reason for Thaksin and the 'red hordes' attaining power, and hanging on to it, is the crass ignorance and gullibility of the up country electorate.
The main reason for the Democrat's unpopularity in that region of the country is down to their bitter medicine policies under Chuan in the late 90's.
The 'up country electorate' are not so stupid or gullible than you may think. There are actual reasons why they tend to vote the way they do that go beyond low intellect or being paid to vote.

Agree, Korn is in the very small group of Thais who have shown that they could change Thailand for the better.
Shown what exactly?
The last government he was part of failed miserably. He failed miserably. A finance minister that presided over record levels of inflation, failed fiscal policy, poor economic performance and a budget that saw the poor cheated while the Army spent billions on divining rods, hot air balloons and rusty subs.
Or were his financial skills channeled into enriching Democrat MPs' personal wealth, which grew by an astonishing B4.3 Billion during his tenure?
