  1. The foriegn embassies in thailand are not bloody governed by thai's and thai's have no duristiction in them.

Except that they work there and are thus given power of authority by Australian officials?

do you have any idea what an australian public servant is. What bloody power of authority. To treat aussies like shit. Pull you head in and crap on your own embassy and people dickwit. Do some research sorry I bet you cant read.

Yes, yes, a public servant, one whose job it is to serve you, in this case, serving you being, letting you know whether you are or are not allowed to do so and so, or whether you have provided enough whatever to do whatever. Sort of like the way a bouncer serves you at the entrance of a club by deciding whether you get in or not. When he tells you to get lost, he is doing so in the interest of his boss (The Australian government).

This poor girl spends all day listening to loud, Australian accented hooligans with their you know what behind them in a tank top. Give her a break. Realize that if you are rude and act like an idiot you won't get anywhere quickly, just as OP did not.

  2. I had a really bad experience today which really got to me. The wife and I went to meet one of her friends in Khao San road, not a place I particularly like going to, when three American tourists thought it would be amusing to point us and say "Sex tourist and bar girl". Now let me start by saying that my wife are quite young (She is 23 and I am 28). I snapped and told them to f***k off back to where they came from, at which point they quickly turned around and mingled with the crowd.

My wife didn't understand why I snapped and when I explained to her she wanted to go find them and confront them about it too. Apparently the waitress, at the restaurant where it happened, told us they were saying it to every mixed couple that walked past.

I've gotten past most of the annoyances of living in Thailand, dual pricing, visa regulations etc. But this really got on my nerves.

Not sure how I would react - probably say something derogatory to them but in Thai to make wife/waitress/other Thais laugh at them..

ie.. kwais - go chak wai - something like that....

they would have faked a laugh.

  3. You are a better man than I am, I would have gotten out and kicked the crap out of the male memebers of the party.

Thanks for the support guys, I know I am venting. All three were male and I really wanted to confront them but they dissapeared pretty quickly.

    lol

  5. You see... Le Raffine was supposed to be the alpha and the omega of the luxury condo market in central bangkok, blablabla.

It was supposed to be a bunker against any price drop, economic downturn, or whatever else.

It was the Light House of Serenity and Eternal Growth Because Bangkok Is So Different (LHSEGBBISD copyright myself).

Well... Le Raffine is nothing else than a building. And a building amid a full blown crisis.

The luxury condominium developer Le Raffine' 1989 Co Ltd plans to reduce the latest prices of condominium units at its Soi Sukhumvit 39 site by 15-20% and sell the remaining units at Soi Sukhumvit 31 that it adit kept for renting out.

Dr Pimpa Vajrabukka, the company's owner and managing director, said prices at Le Raffine' Jambu Dvipa on Soi Sukhumvit 39 would be cut to 160,000 baht per square metre from 200,000 baht due to an unfavourable market. (Bangkok Post)

I don't know why I think about the movie Apocalypse Now, with colonel Kurtz.... "The horror.... the horror"...

    Replace with "The suckers...".

    :)

Who told you that it "was supposed to the the bunker"? LOL

Le Raffine is ALL duplexes, every single one! (Talk about having all your eggs in one basket!). I am surprised to hear that they were trying to get 200,000 per square meter (the Sukhothai has a lot to answer for) but its not much of a surprise to learn that they didn't sell out 100%.

not surprising that the more expensive condos with only huge units are seeing bigger drops than smaller units in an economic crisis.

  7. Certain things that you can't say outright get spread through gossip. its in line with the whole, everyone knows whats going on, but pretend that they dont, everyone knows that everyone is pretending but pretends not to know.I love Thailand. for example, people talk about the lack of free speech, but nothing has to be written and printed to be spread through thai society. Its Kool.

  8. you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. she was wrong, sure. but guess what, the last 99 abrasive Australians with their terrible to listen to accents were wrong. its clear from your posts that you wanted to put a Thai in their place. i am sure you enjoyed the entire experience and were looking for conflict. if you just wanted to be served, you could have easily done it the thai way, stood there as long as it took, been extra polite etc.

the stuff about the Australian embassy not being thailand, and that she is the farang is just comical.

    :)

  9. Its funny on this forum how many middle aged men feel compelled to make fashion judgments and comments in general talking about women, as if they are actually part of the none working gal dating pool. Please, do you think any of these school girls actually care what some leering middle aged farang thinks about their outfit or hairstyle?

  10. Am I the only one on this forum that is depressed by the fact that most farang just seem obsessed by money and the fear that everyone in the world is trying to scam them from their money??

I don't actually think that the theme of this thread is scamming.

I also think that it's not a case of Farang being obsessed with money, it's a question of fairness.

My money has not been easy to come by and I don't see why I should just give it away, without considering the circumstances.

If my gf's father was to get sick, none of the family has any money, so I would have to pay, if I am able.

But I do get pissed off with so many Thais attitude to money.

My gf's sister borrowed 10,000 Baht to help finish her house. Most of the money for the house has come from her father and he is now broke and retired. With no current income she still managed to gamble 800 Baht (borrowed) on the lottery 2 weeks ago. I have just found out that she has gambled 700 Baht on the lottery today. That 700 Baht came out of the money that I have lent her.

It's examples like this that gets up the nose of Farang and makes them reluctant to help people who will not help themselves. How can somebody with no current income gamble 1,500 Baht in 1 month? I feel sorry for her husband, he's such a decent hardworking man, lumbered with a lazy, gambling drunk for a wife.

From what I understand, this is very common in Thailand.

Its not just farang ATM. Its brother ATM, Uncle ATM, Aunty ATM, hot young sister who married a Wealthy Thai ATM, etc.

Thai families are large enough and there is enough guilt that they can team up on each other and extract money from those who are more successful than others. its probably even encouraged by many families, especially in Isaan. Ask any thai from middle or lower class if a friend has ever borrowed money and not paid it back...

  11. Its comical to hear people say, in other words obviously, but their point, whether they realize it consciously or not is, "I just want a girl half my age who wants me for me, not because of my bank account balance"... Its in the line of "Why won't the stock market just go up!"... When will the next Asian Tom Yung Goong Crisis start, I want to buy six homes and flip them fast?"... "If I keep playing the same lottery number, its bound to come up! I deserve it for crissakes!"

  12. the base price doesn't cover insurance and maintenance. better to just assume they are so rich that its like they are spending monopoly money. i can only speak for myself, but i would need something like 250m baht before i could rationalize spending 15m baht on an automobile, especially one i could buy for a 1/3rd of that in my home country.

Thankfully people do, so some people can buy these cars 10 - 15 years later for a fraction of the price..

The Audi A6 I bought last year....... 1st owner 2 year, next owner 9 years I bought it from him for 235k with 116,000 km and full service history, yet the new price when new was 2.6 million... for the same year and price I could have bought a basic 1.6 auto Toyota Corolla, which cost 620k when new..

So whats your point? That you got a good deal?

Good luck regardless. Maybe with a new paint job and some interior work you can trick some girls into thinking its a 2004 or something.

  13. Oh and lucky if you want to get to know some good girls just hang out around noon in business areas. There are lots of really nice girls who are easy going. Check the street food places in Silom for example and chat with some girls there. I also know nice office girls who in fact like older men. One of the best friends of my girlfriend has been with a 60 year old Thai guy from Los Angeles for some time (she didn't get any money or whatever but she likes "daddy" type of partners).

    daddy issues.

the key to old guys and chubby/big guys getting girls.

  15. thanks for info... but for 6.3 million i think i'll get a mitsu paj sport for 1.2 and a house and a pool up north for 5.1 !

Me too sick import duties on this SUV

i wonder if many rich Thais with connections don't have to pay the import duty. its one of the few laws here which is a huge disadvantage to the rich/upper middle class with few benefits because unlike places like singapore, there are still loads of shit boxes putting around on the same street.

  16. Had to drive to China Town in BKK yesterday afternoon, 1st time in 5 years....

Shocked at some of the cars being driven around.... + how many were on red plates..

Porsche Carrera 4S cost something like 18 nillion

Porsche Panaumera something like 28 million [1st time I have seen one] and with number plate 'ท 1' it was hopeless following it as it is far to big for these roads.

Bentley Arnage cost around 33 million

    Lamborghini Murcielago around 38 million

at least 10 new shape Mercedes 500 costs over 15 million most on red plates the others all with private numbers. [sorry don't like the look of these new ones]

+ loads of lower priced Mercedes, BMWs [1st time I had seen a BMW X6] Audi's, Volvo

There was as many what I call VERY high priced cars as there was everyday Toyota and Honda's on red plates.

As I have not been into BKK for some years is this normal all over BKK ? or just in China Town?

definitely not normal. perhaps there was a wedding.

the land in Chinatown is supposedly some of the most expensive in Thailand, why i don't know, I don't even think they are allowed to build skyscrapers there. you are more likely to see these vehicles (non bmw/benz) in the thong lo/ekamai/ratcha areas. and even then, its still not an every day of the week thing. there is a lambo g that spends alot of time parked in siam square though.
