I need a couple of 2 inch x 2 inch photos. Does anyone know a shop near Nimmanhaemin or Kad Suan Geow that does this? There must be several places but I don't recall seeing any.
-
Well, just heard back from him again and it looks like he's pulling my leg.
-
Against my best advice he purchased a townhouse after being in the country less than 24 hours. I suspect he will make out OK on the deal. Not great. Maybe OK.
-
Naam, "up the ante" is slang for "put in more cash."
-
rwdrwdrwd, I have just spoken with my buddy and he agrees with you. The first time he and I both bought significant amounts of foreign real estate was when the Thai baht was in turmoil in 1997. Argentina went through the same thing in 2002 or thereabouts and it is happening again. $10,000 is not enough to do much. He needs to decide to up the ante or forget about it. THANK YOU for your comments.

What if he decides to up the ante and buy a townhouse? Good idea or not?
Your mate doesn't know and he asks you, who admit you do not know (and are presumably in Thailand) and you ask the question on a Thai forum.....................................about Argentina..................
Agreed, it is funny. But you never know where a good idea might come from...
-
Excellent. Thanks for that.

Well, he's not expecting miracles. Isn't there something he could buy down there and re-sell in the USA. Leather jackets, maybe? How about gold?

I believe it's true that every drop of water on the planet has been used over and over again, passing through many types of creatures. As long as it's clean, no problem.
And what about those showers on first class flights? They use the same water over and over again, but, according to the airlines, due to the filtering process the water gets cleaner and cleaner every time it passes through the filters, so the last guy showering is actually using cleaner water than the first : )

I'm the OP. Thanks for all of the interesting feedback. Regarding the comment that your skin is the largest organ in your body, and that it can somehow absorb "bad" water when taking a shower, I'm not sure of the science behind this.
For work reasons in 2003 I had to move to Mexico City for eight months. Let me tell you, if you did not keep your mouth clamped shut while taking a shower, you would suffer the consequences. But if you kept your mouth clamped shut, no problem. Thus I am suspect that your skin is somehow absorbing water similar to drinking a glass of water.
In CM I don't have to worry clamping my mouth shut while showering. While I do drink bottled water, I always rinse with normal tap water after brushing my teeth.

If this sort of stuff really happened we would be hearing about it all the time.

A buddy is headed to Argentina next week from the US, where the official exchange rate and blue market exchange rates are far apart. He'd like to take US$ 10,000 with him and try to make a few bucks. Any idea how he might do this? He's asked for my advice and I'm clueless on this stuff.

This article, while not Chiang Mai specific, says that tap water in Thailand is safe to drink. If this is true, then why all the water trucks delivering bottled water?
Do you drink Chiang Mai tap water? Is there a way to "test" the quality of the water?

I think you are a troll but others may want to know. If money is no object, go to Bangkok. All of the dental work I have had done in Chiang Mai has needed to be re-done in less than two years. This outfit in Bangkok has done top notch work for me: http://www.bangkokdentalcenter.com

A guy I know is in the same line of work. I believe he sells exclusively online.

Can you tell me more precisely where you are located? I walk around there sometimes and I need a new billfold. I accidentally put mine through the wash a few weeks ago.

I guess I don't cook much. My gas bottles have never lasted less than a year.

My friend recently sold a CM studio condo for almost double the price he paid in 2008. He tried to get triple the price and it sat on the market for months. Once he found the right price point, it sold within 24 hours.

In case anyone is interested, my phone plan is with AIS and I have a contract for the minimum number of talk minutes and messages (unless they have a new plan that I am unaware of.)
My monthly bill is always 286 baht deducted automatically from my bank account. My friends overseas can't believe I have a cell phone bill of less than $10/month.

Northern John, I seem to use the same link as you but I get a different start page: (edit: this link seems to have suddenly stopped working.) http://www.sfcinemacity.com/index.php/en/cinema/location/SFX
I've never seen anyone walk in during the anthem. Wouldn't any standing person just stop in their tracks?
People walking in after the film has started? I guess I've seen that happen, but it's pretty rare and indeed rude.
-
So if you're running a bit late, you'll still probably catch the start of the film.
And annoy everyone else by barging across them when the film has already started.
Which quite a lot of people do for this exact reason.
They deserve it for sitting through all that crap.
They deserve it because maybe they want to watch the previews, and aren't disrespectful enough to either the King or other moviegoers to just wander in they want and make a nuisance of themselves?
Yeah right. I'll be tripping up the next MF that does it.
There is nothing disrespectful about skipping the ads and previews and going 20 minutes late to the cinema. Thais and foreigners do it all the time and I have never seen anyone have an issue with it. There's also nothing wrong with getting up in the middle of the film if you need to tka e leak.

The Maya Mall cinema is fantastic. It's brought Hubby and me back to almost weekly movie-going. They just need a decent restaurant in the mall to make it a really nice evening out. (Dave, can you feel our pain?)
Give the seafood set at Fuji a try. The beef set is also OK if you don't mind tough(ish) Thai beef. The more expensive raw fish sets are extremely good if you have a taste for that sort of thing. Personally I love it.

Nancy, I may be wrong but I gather he is from CA and his wife is Irish. There is a rather well known man in town who, I believe is from CA, but I can't mention his name without permission. If the OP would message me I could try to arrange a meeting between them.
Passport photo shop near Nimmenhaemin

DaamNaam, at the corner of Nimman and Suthep, will I be able to see that Fuji shop? If not, do I walk east towards town or west towards the mountain? Thanks!
