  1. Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the few films where viewing in 3D is recommended by most reviewers.  That's a pity since Maya only shows the 3D version in Thai.  Might have to make the trip to Airport Plaza to see it.

  2. I suppose they can tell a Burmese with a quick look then. I had a cab over take me, then saw it at the next checkpoint pulled over with 4 cops checking out the boot, few minutes later overtakes me again then at the next checkpoint the same cab pulled over with the same boot inspection in process, guess the poor driver was Burmese or they dont like cab drivers? biggrin.png lol

I was told that certain license plates also arouse their suspicions, those plates issued far, far away from Mae Sai.

  3. As an aside, it's for very good reason that building tall ugly condominiums is prohibited inside the moat.  It's what keeps our city looking nice!

I can't help but wander what Manhattan would be like if they had decided not to build tall buildings on the island.  Admittedly it is not as nice as Paris, but it is pretty darn nice : )

  4. Regulate? Of course. An e-cig is a drug-delivery system and it needs to be regulated. My point is that an e-cig is likely to be far, far better for you than a cigarette.

The important point/word in your reply is "likely" (to be better) no one knows and that is all I was pointing out. Anything would be better than smoking lethal tobacco cigs, but nobody knows what the permamnent side affects of e-cigs sre yet. Why take the risk.

Did you read the reference by the way? I am not being judgementive or anything just wondering if you did read it or not before replying.

I did not read the reference before replying but I read it just now. My fear is that big tobacco is behind the e-cig "smear campaign."

Why take the risk on e-cigs? I don't understand your comment. You state that "anything would be better than smoking lethal tobacco cigs" so you appear to be saying switching to e-cigs would be a better alternative. Anyway, neither of us are experts so I'm going to leave it at that.

  5. Aren't these E-Smoking devices just another way of the tobacco/commercial groups to get you off one addictive product and on to another (even less proven) chemical addiction!

What? I don't know where you get your information. An e-cig is most likely to be far better for you than a cigarette. Like Ulysses said, the nicotine in e-cigs is still terribly addictive.

  6. I rented my first 10 years here. Very sorry I did that. Bought in 2008. I plan to be here at least 10 more years. By 2024, I will easily be able to sell and get my money back. And for all of those 16 years I will not have paid a dime in rent.

  7. If he is staying a few months and needs fast net connections, it is my impression that most of these rooms allow the renters to install their own internet line. Having a dedicated line is very important for some people who use the net to work.

  8. I have a friend from the US turning 50 tomorrow and he wants to apply for what is commonly referred to as a retirement visa. He wants to go the whole nine years and pay someone to do all the work for him (as much as possible) so he doesn't have to go to Immigration in person (I think that is possible but I am not sure.)

He is aware he will need to go to the US Consulate for the income statement.

Can anyone recommend a visa assistance service in the Nimmen area? I think there is someone on Nimmen Soi 13 or 15 but I have not read any reports about them.

  9. Your question seemed so odd, I didn't think for a second that you were serious.

You have the choice of a large supermarket, a local market (where flies will be all over your pork) or a small chain store like Lotus Tesco. All will have the price per/kg clearly marked, except for the local market where you will need to ask.

I didn't think you were that new around here.

  10. By the way, is it really cheaper to have one of those phones without a contract where you buy minutes at 7/11 or other shops?

My situation: I rarely make or receive calls or messages, but I need to have a phone just in case. I have a contract with AIS (least possible talk minutes and least possible number of messages) and usually pay about 270 baht per month, automatically deducted from my bank account so I never have to do anything.

  11. I feel sorry for anyone having to listen to that ding/dong constantly ringing, hour after hour. I bet the staff there hear it in their sleep. I know I would.

My local 7/11 recently expanded in size and now offers a range of products they didn't have room for previously. I like their triple-blade disposable razors (one can last me about 2 weeks) and the fact that the 7/11 branded water is 1 baht cheaper than the other brands helps me get more our of my budget : )
