I'm trying to make sense of allowing venues to open until 2am, but not later.
I know it's an old chestnut but does covid wake up early?

Was there a request by the consulate to view a flight ticket belonging to you too?(applying for a non O)
Or just the other fella? (Presumably applying for a tourist visa)

I've worn a mask(a buff, actually, but it serves the same purpose) constantly for the last 3 years, never below the nose, always properly, simply because I respected the Thais' wishes for us to wear one, but now I just can't, it's too hot.
I'll keep the buff around my neck so whenever I'm in the market/7eleven/mall etc, and even when I'm near someone in public I can pull it up, but I refuse to wear one walking the dog on empty streets at 5am, riding my bikes on open roads, walking to the shops or post office, it's just completely pointless, and as someone said in a recent thread - nobody ever gets punished for not wearing a mask!
I have noticed so many Thais not wearing them too, I don't feel like the odd one out, so that's it, I'm done(unless indoors in a public place).
I think the 'rulers' have kept the mandate in place to keep the people happy, I honestly belive a majority of Thais are fine continuing to wear masks. Keeping the mandate was a political move. The people in charge are not at stupid as we think.

But this is not a more developed country but it is Thailand and long may it stay this way.
My Mum visited from the UK recently, she was impressed with how we could pay for almost everything with a quick & simple scan, she said it's nothing like that back in blighty(I've no idea, thankfully I haven't needed to go back for years)
So whomever is taking ages in the queue to pay for their goods is to blame - not the technology, the technology is just fine(and quick & simple).

Actually, you are right ... I just read it again and it is well presented, it's just the pointing is a bit over the top don't you think ? as we all know what a toilet looks like as well as a table and chairs.
You never know, maybe somebody out there doesn't know what a toilet and table & chairs looks like, this bloke is just covering all the bases.

I've only spent 2 nights in each of them, but from my subjective experience they are relatively similar, both are small cities.
Buriram gets more visitors though due to the "Chang circuit", so there are more hotel options.
Thanks, I think I'll go NR - Kalasin route on the way out as the road is bigger and hopefully less farm machinery..., and possibly the Surin or Buriram route on the way back.
-
Thanks for the suggestions.
I'm fine with big long highways as opposed to scenic routes, I realised there might not have been much to look at.
Phimai historical park looks interesting, so does Buriram. Surin is
just a bit too far off the main highways.Ignore that, Surin is an option too, I'm assuming Surin is a little bit more rural than Buriram? The route from Surin up to Muk looks a lot more rural, lots more dark green landscape...This route is looking the most likely, and perhaps I'll stop off at Khon Kaen and then Phimai on the return leg...

I'm thinking of riding my motorbike up to Mukdahan from Bangkok in a couple of weeks time, there's a couple of things I'd like to know;
Can anybody recommend somewhere to stay around half way there? I'd like to have a few beers and maybe play some pool, nothing too strenuous.
I've checked Google Maps and there seems to be some roadworks just past half way on one of the most direct routes, has anybody done this route on a bike recently? Which route would you take for quality of roads and scenery?

I have confirmed it via PM with Dave, 1 year multi-O, no funds proof needed, same as it was before covid.... ????
This is the best news I've read for 3 years!
If you wouldn't mind(& haven't done so elsewhere), could you tell us what you had to show to the consulate? I'm worried I'll arrive with everything I've read & been told I need, only to be refused on something minor.
Thanks in advance!

My scorpion ADX-1 has excellent venting which can be felt when in motion, when at the lights my head remains cool.
I bought this helmet because of the reviews regarding venting and I wasn't disappointed.
However, it's a narrow fitting helmet, something to consider before buying.

Well I am one one that rather determines issues and statements based on facts and questions statements rather than believe in exaggerations to push your point. You will find that there are a lot more like me. especially when people make statements as you did, and I quote; "I always give a good push or pull on anything I'm about to risk my life on/near. ", and then when questioned on the factually of that statement you back paddle and attempt to blame the people who questioned you making such a gross exaggeration. But I suspect that everybody can see through such an exaggeration now that you have been called out about it and to which have back peddled upon stating you didn't really mean "anything". Would you have back peddled if not take to task I wonder ?
Don't take everything so literally, you'll make yourself unhealthy.

You mean always one that collapses ? So what do you do when you give a railing a good shake and it collapses ? Or how many ledges do you access to check their security ? isn't height a safety risk for you or do you wear a full harness, not secured to any railings obviously ? ????
Just in case you didn't understand - there's always one like you.

Tell me and I'm sure others would similarly be interested, how do you give " a good push or pull on anything I'm about to risk my life on/near" such as an airplane whilst boarding ? Do you skip off and away from the air bridge , avoiding security, to give the nose wheel a right tug or perhaps you nip to the back to grab the tale ? How about boats and trains ? come on tell us how you do it to ensure your safety and please pass on that knowledge to assist others here.
I obviously don't mean aircfraft noses and tails, I mean railings and ledges etc.
There's always one.

Another reason why I don't trust any structure built here.
Like I always say when something like this happens - I always give a good push or pull on anything I'm about to risk my life on/near.
Even our rented home - built to higher standards than most houses old and new here - was swaying from side to side when an excavator was pushing mud around 50 metres away ????

Sounds good. I am maybe out of date but isn't it difficult to stay long term/retirement there?
I'm not sure, sorry. But 1 year without the need to leave or report your existence, for 450 bucks is a bargain IMO.

I thought Vietnam was a no go area for expats now with their new visa requirements.
I just came back from HCMC, I had the offer of a 1 year visa there for $450, that alone was a tempting reason not to bother coming back to Thailand!
Wife, son, dog, cats, fish & plants all disagreed with me.

Having had a SS Standard - cooler only - for about a decade found it very reliable. But as bottles became heavy (or we got older) found the bottom storage type much better and have had for about 2 years now - plastic yes but black and seems to be holding up very well. Hot and Cold and very easy to change bottles. Both h/c can be switched on/off.
I do like this type, and I'm sort of sure my 17 year old son wouldn't fall into it giggling whilst smashing it to smithereens, but the stainless one is already on order now, so I'll give it a go, if I don't like it I'll relocate it to somewhere else in the house and try something like this.
What's the water flow like? maybe wrongly I assume the water flow is quite slow, correct me if I'm wrong.

We've have one made by Clarte.
It's about 10 years old now and so far has never had a problem.
Our one only chills the water, it basically works on the same principal as a refrigerator, switching it's on and off via a thermostat when the water temperature rises. It doesn't chill the water in the bottle, only what is in the reservoir within the machine. It has a control on the back which you can adjust to how cold you wish your water to be.
There is no pump to fail.
The water is dispensed purely by gravity from the 20 liter water bottle which is turned upside down on top of the machine.
Warning! Changing the bottle when the water is finished does take some practice!
We decided against buying on that heated the water.
A conventional kettle is perfectly adequate for that purpose.
Thanks for your helpful reply! Some good points there.
I'm going to have a look around my area for pricing and brands. So far I've seen Standard, Victor & Clarte, I can't see there being much difference between them though...
I assume that because they're gravity fed they're a little bit faster to dispense than the fridge-front-mounted dispensers?
Thanks for the heads-up regarding the bottle change too!

RIP.
Saw one today on Borrom, near Phutthamonthon Sai 3, 4 pickups rear ended each other, the pickup at the back was a write-off(you'd hope, but who knows?)
But anyhow, right there was a good reason to start monitoring and regulating(& enforcing regulation on) delivery vehicles, if not all commercial vehicles, then eventually private vehicles.
Sadly, we all know this won't happen.
(My visor is in the way because I've got my modular helmet up so I can get a breeze at slow speeds)
