In London you rarely see black girls with white men.
Same in the USA. Plenty of white/Asian couples though - the model minority.

Coke from Mexico uses real sugar. In the USA it is high fructose corn syrup instead - definitely a different taste.

Why?
They're your employees, yet again a sign of weakness.
You gonna buy them fireworks at NY as well?
Nothing wrong with treating employees well. However, make sure they deserve and appreciate it.

One thing I do not understand though is how everything is more expensive there in general, yet they have a weaker and poor economy / people. Rent, food, and general living seems to be more pricyLaos has to import a lot of things from Thailand. They do not produce much themselves.

Thai Visa Poster of the Year Nancy L. and her husband pretty much fit the bill, although they could be a little younger. They might not bother with a car though. I think they have a local driver.

I went a few years ago and it was good, but very out of the way. To me, Salsa Kitchen is in no way authentic, but still tastes good and reminiscent of American- style Mexican. Miguel's is my favorite In Chiang Mai and as good as many little neighborhood places in Southern California.

Ran a business in Thailand for about 15 years with 17 employees - had very few problems during that time. They were loyal, came on time and did a good job. Probably due to having a excellent female Thai manager. I almost only hired women and paid well.

Are you proud of that?
Certainly doesn't bother me - not a prude. Ian and I had a lot to talk about when we met.

I'm looking forward to a time when someone posts a photo of his beloved, only to have her recognized by multiple TV members.
Can't remember his last name, but a bald guy named Ian from Canada used to post pictures of his tilacs on TV. I knew ever single one - intimately. ?

There are only two things better about living in California than Thailand: the weather and inexpensive Hass avacodos. ?

It is not derogatory unless a derogatory term is added to modify it. Claims otherwise are nonsense.

Swensen's has something resembling a milk shake, but it may not satisfy your yearning for the ones you remember.
On the positive side, no other franchise has cuter waitresses - Fact!
(IMHO)
SWENSON'S vanilla milk shakes are excellent - real ice cream would be the only difference one might notice.

I have a Thai friend who visits the US about once a year. She says there are good Thai restaurants in America, but they are far and few between. She loves one in particular in San Francisco, but I am not going to pay a fortune to eat Thai food her, so I've never asked the name. I like some Thai food OK, but have never been crazy about it.

I have not done it for a few years, but when I missed mine, I had to start over based on my latest arrival date.

When people complain about the driving in Thailand, I always think they haven't actually travelled that much.
Been in the middle east for six years, and inshallah another six more, but I'm always pleasantly surprised by how nice it is to drive in Thailand. The lack of horns, people let you in, slower speeds, greater politeness, I could go on....
Anyways, if you can't handle dining driving in Thailand, stay away from Egypt or Saudi, LOL.
It is WAY worse in Vietnam too - at least it was 20 years ago when I lived there.

Been here for over 20 years, when i 1st got here immigration was never a hassle, fees were low, didn't have to do 90 day reporting, and many things have changed for the worse. Paid 35 baht for a kilo of moo etc. The price of food is now basically comparable to the U.S. so no saving there.
Immigration was a hassle long before that and - if one eats in Thai restaurants - food is MUCH cheaper in Thailand.

Way back when, Songkran in Pattaya started later than everywhere else and the people who hated it would go there during that time and return home when it was over where they came from . However, eventually, it started earlier and earlier in Pattaya, until it was 10 days instead of three. That is how it became the monstrosity it is today.

I attended a number of Songkrans in Pattaya in the mid to late 90s and I never saw ice being used till the last one I was in, after which I avoided them. I don't remember the exact year though as the memory is not what it used to be.
Chiang Mai was much bigger back then and they were using ice in the 1980s. The ice man would deliver it to people with big buckets all along Thapae and Moon Muang Roads.

My first Songkran was in the 90s, and it's probably been going on long before that. Most of the Thais involved in it probably weren't even alive when it became as it is today. I don't think it could be worse now than it was in the 90s as it was full on then.
The only difference, and the reason I don't participate now is the ice.
As for speakers, in the early 90s I was extremely annoyed by a van selling fruit with a very loud speaker that kept pace with me as I walked along Jomptien Beach Rd.
I'm more disturbed by unmuffled m'bikes and longtails, though.
There was ice being thrown in the 1980s. I can't say before that. This photo was taken in Chiang Mai in the 1950s. The water war has been around for a long time.

Strangers talking on baht buses in these "interesting" times

I'm pretty sure I was on a baht bus with Jingthing one time, but I will never know for sure
