  1. Thank you Lucky and Marstons!

Have to check out homes on Soi SCC then...how far up do the baht buses go? As far as the Lake or to around what Soi, do you happen to know?

I am not familiar with Pong, but there was one home in Nongprue that I saw. I'll put that one on the short list to check out!

    Many thanks,

    WaatWang

  2. Hello,

We have unexpectedly found ourselves in need of a new home with little notice. I started looking online and it seems like the greatest value (and multitude!) of homes are in the Khao Tao Lo / Khao Noi area. Unfortunately, we don't have a car, and I can't drive a motorbike to save my life. Could anyone tell me if either of these streets are regular routes for sorng thaews (aka baht buses - B10 / fare)? Otherwise, I think I'll have a hard time maintaining my social life. giggle.gif

Any experience using these on the dark side? If they even exist, how often do they run? (Like maybe similar to S. Pattaya Rd between 2nd Rd & Sukhumvit, where there are a few and they start one place & wait for them to fill up then run up & back - ?) Have you found service is unavailable at certain times of the day, or on certain days of the week?

Many thanks in advance for your replies! wai.gif

    Kind regards,

    WaatWang

  3. I Googled '2012 Pattaya Dog Show' - none of them showed the 2012 dates - all were for 2011. Only show I see listed for 2012 is a livestock show.

Pattaya Parent, maybe you are using a different Google than the rest of us. If indeed it's somehow smarter, it sure would be nice if you'd just pass along the information the OP requested. Going to a dog show this weekend sounds like fun, but you are apparently the only one who can figure out where it is.clap2.gif

  4. 1. What are the pet food brands that you buy for your lovely pets ? Royal Canin, Cesar

    2. Normally, where you buy pet food and accessories for your kids? Pet specialty shop at our local night market

    3. Have you ever order pet food and accessories from Thai online shop? Can you tell, what are those website? And how much you spend in each time? No and lived here 2.5 years, didn't know there were any

    4. How much you spend for you pets per month? Around B1,000 not including vet visits

    5. What do want to buy and can't find in the supermarket or any pet shop around you? Good quality imported toys such as Kong or BusyBuddy. DentaGreen and Pig Ear treats. I would also love a real 'Flexi' brand expandable leash - the local brands either fall apart or begin to lose their ability to wind back up after a while. I know another respondant stated 'at local prices' but I personally would expect to pay more for them since they're an import. Quality is more important than cost - otherwise you're constantly replacing cheap products and end up paying more anyway.

    6. If possible, what can make you trust Thai online pet shop, real shop, the registered logo from Department of Business Development? Recommendations from others who have used it, descriptions in English, and a date on the website that says when the site was last updated. Otherwise, hard to tell if the compay is still even in business. I am not familiar with the logo from the Dept you mentioned.

Best of luck with your new venture! thumbsup.gif

  5. In December we had to make this difficult decision as well. We had tried everything to help our dog get better, but he was very old. Towards the end, we were going to visit the vet once or twice a week to try different medicines and treatments.

I just knew in my heart the day I had dreaded had come. We brought him back to the vet and asked about it. He requested that we do some bloodwork just to see if anything else could be done for him, but indeed it showed his liver was starting to shut down. The vet agreed to do the euthanasia, and we were surrounded by other kind, supportive staff as well. Everyone knew our dog since we had been there so often.

Sorry for you loss - I know how difficult it can be. I am glad you were able to find someone to help him cross over and end his suffering.

  6. I received a Christmas card from the US about a week ago.

Also, for the last couple of months, my Internet bill (which comes from Bangkok) has been arriving the week *after* its due date. The first time it happened they told me it was because of the flooding in Bangkok, but it's been arriving late ever since.

Perhaps they're sitll playing catch-up? huh.png Who knows...

  7. I had the opposite happen once. I was in line behind a motorbike taxi guy at Tesco Lotus Suhkumvit (paying for our purchases) and asked if he was working. Figured it was easier for him to drive me home instead of lugging my stuff to the taxi stand alllllll the way out on Suk Rd. He agreed and drove me home. As I was unpacking my stuff I found one bag of stuff that was not mine! He came back to pick it up shortly after. giggle.gif

  8. Well... since I live in Thailand I occasionally lie about my age.

Thais never ask my age, but (single) white males do. And then I add 10 years to get rid of them :-)

    biggrin.png That's different!!

I can't believe Thais never ask your age, though. It's always the third question for me, right after my name and where I'm from.

  9. Hello ColinP and congrats on your new pup! It sounds like you're doing a great job housetraining as Adam says - she goes to the door to be let out, so understands what is expected of her. The trouble overnight is that - at 14 weeks - she is just not old enough to hold it for an entire six to eight hours while you sleep. A good estimate is that they can hold their bladder approximately one hour for each month of age. If your puppy is only three months old and you don't want accidents in the house, unfortunately you're going to have to get up to let her out on a regular basis for the next few months. It's incovenient, but consider it an investment in your home and your dog. Good luck, and hope you enjoy life with your new friend for many years to come.

  10. LOL Same as the ladies above. I explain that Americans don't like to talk about their age. But then my husband just tells them my age anyway. ermm.gif *sigh*

Ah it's the Thai way, we can't avoid it here. The hubby has been advised that when we go to the US, if he does that, we're going to have problems!! giggle.gif I'll respect the customs here, but he's got to respect mine on my home turf.

  11. Hello Mr. & Mrs. Razz,

I'm absolutely addicted to Coach bags. Being there's only one outlet in Bangkok for these and - because they're imports - the bags are even more expensive than buying them in the States. So I've simply been shopping on eBay. I can spend hours searching for the exact bag I want, and then have fun shopping for matching wallets, passport covers, sunglass cases, you name it! New, used, it's all there to choose from, and a lot cheaper. Only downside is that not all sellers will ship international. For me it's no problem, because I have someone in the States receive packages for me and then forward them on to me. cool.png Expensive habit, but I love it! Just wanted to mention that as an alternative. It's hard finding the accessories I want here otherwise.

  12. Whle I'd much prefer to shop local, it's often very frustrating and time consuming trying to find what I need. After living here a couple years, I've found that shopping online is my best bet. Sometimes, even when HomePro stocks something I'm looking for, it might not be in a style I like (for example, duvet covers), and they're sold just as expensively there as it would be for me to buy one online and have it shipped here.

With both dye and rolls of wallpaper borders, I think it would be quite cost effective to import, and you'll get exactly the color and style you have in mind. Good luck!

  13. That's where I'm confused. I'm assuming they're going to give me some kind of Non-O Immigrant Visa, not an extension. There is nothing to extend because my previous visa is now expired....

I originally came here as most people do, on a tourist visa. I went back & forth to the US a few times. When I decided to move here permanently, since I'm a couple decades short of retirement age, I got an education visa. I was a good girl and went to school, and I can even talk about fish eating other fish now. B)

I met my husband about halfway through my education visa. When he proposed, we picked a wedding date that was around the time my visa would run out so that eveything would just transition to a marriage visa.

Therefore, they can't extend the education visa - it's used up. I should get an entire new visa based on marriage, right? And if that's the case, how much will it cost?

    Thanks for your reply,

    WaatWang

  14. Hello,

I am sorry to start this new topic, but I have tried searching on here and also the consulate in NY, and I'm just getting more confused! I find lots of information about how to get married and how to apply for the extension of stay, but I cannot seem to find out how much the actual visa costs when we're approved.

A little background information: I am an American woman, and my husband is a Thai citizen. We currently live in Thailand. We paid the B1,900 for the two-month extension based on marriage, which runs out at the end of this month. We have a big folder full of pictures and copies of all the documents they requested. So when we go back at the end of this month, how much will we have to pay for the visa? I think this would be good to have in hand when I go to immigration. :) I can't imagine that we'd get it for free!

    Thanks for your help,

    WaatWang

  15. Hello,

I've tried searching the forum but nothing is coming back (except for where to go in Bangkok). We were hoping to get a translation done locally here in Pattaya. Can anyone recommend an establishment who does official translations of the affadavit of marriage document?

    Kind regards,

    WaatWang
