  1. My BF and I talk alot about music - translating English orThai songs back & forth to our own language. It's a fun way learn new words for both of us.

We rented a car and there were some CDs left inside from the last people. One of the songs that came on was 'My Humps' by the Black Eyed Peas. He said he knew that one and I was kind of suprised. If you look up the lyrics it's pretty much all American slang, and it's basically about a woman's - you know - tits & ass.

Come to find out apparently it is a popular song here, but most Thai people think she's saying "Ma Hou - Ma Hou - Ma Hou - Ma Hou" - about a dog barking. Made me giggle. And he was suprised when I explained what humps were.

  2. How about preventing unwanted pregnancies in the first case? Contraceptives of all kinds have been available for many decades - educate people to use them :realangry:

    Indeed.

And blaming worries about money as a reason for abortion is despicable. That is committing murder for monetary gain/prevention of loss. Nothing noble or right about that. What is next, it is ok if a woman commits infanticide if the husband/bf leaves her in the first 2 years of the child's life?

Until both genders can carry a child there can never be equality as the man has *NO* rights whatsoever until the child is born. Only responsibilities. Gender equality, eh?

Are you suggesting that a country like the UK, which has legal abortions, has legalised a form of murder, in the guise of abortion? Catholic are you? Maybe if you're lucky you'll come to your senses as you mature.

    Thanks, SamJaiDee. I'm with you.

I also believe that having worries about money is certainly not despicable. Here in Thailand there is no safety net. There is no medicaid to pay for doctor visits or the delivery. There is no welfare system to make sure mother or baby would have food in their bellies or a place to live. There are no free wellness visits for the baby to make sure they get the right vaccinations or doctor's visits if they get sick. There is no system in place to help mom find and pay for a good babysitter so she can go back to work, or job training so she can actually find a job that will pay her a sustainable wage.

Obviously using contraceptives in the first place to prevent a pregnancy is ideal. But beyond that point a woman's choices are limited. Considering whether you have enough money to have a baby is called being RESPONSIBLE.

  3. Haha no problem JingThing. :D I actually have not been to Turkey or Istanbul *yet* (would like to someday). I'm not saying it was authentic anything but it was fresh and delicious! For me, it was worth it. FYI - t's a sit down restaurant, everything brand new and very clean. I think she said they've only been open two weeks or so.

They had a whole menu of food and so maybe there's something authenitally Turkish on there for you. The falafel jumped out at me because I haven't had one in so long. OP wanted a good falafel, so thought I'd recommend it.

    Kind regards,

  4. Hello Deejah,

Just this week I happened into a new restaurant in The Avenue (on the first floor behind Starbucks) called "Istanbul". I haven't had a falafel in over a year and it was FANTASTIC! Not bargain priced I will say that but I watched the man make everything from scratch, including rolling out fresh pita bread. He also made homemade french fries served with a tatziki-like dip to go with them. Really delicious and I will be going back soon!

The meal I had with the fries and a drink was around B300 and well worth it to me anyway. But you could get the falafel alone for less money (I don't remember how much).

They also gave a frequent diner card - if you buy 8 you'll get one free. Check it out and hope you like it!

    Kind regards,

    WaatWang

  5. I have to say, as a NY-er who ate pizza when in the US on almost a weekly basis, that the NY Pizza House's white garlic pizza is about 80% as good as home. Very very good! But likely better for me because it was not as greasy as the ones I used to eat in NY. :D

I don't work there or know the owner or have any manner of affiliation with them, just my .02. Will definitely be going back again soon!

    Kind regards,

  6. Hi SBK ~

Just a suggestion for you - especially since you're in the US. When I moved here almost a year ago I brought with me two packs of these:

Fruit of the Loom - 3-Pack Strappy Sport Bras, Style 9036

You can buy them at Wal-Mart and they are very inexpensive.

But they are still "holding up" (haha I couldn't resist) after 10 months of washing and wear. Best sport bras I've ever had. You'd think with spaghetti straps they'd weaken over time but they are just as good as when I bought them. When my friend came to visit last month she brought me two more packs so I have extras now.

    Kind regards,

  7. Hi Dean,

Last year I ate at the Mata Hari on Thappraya Road. While the food there is always excellent, the thing that impressed me about eating there on Christmas was they had a REAL evergreen tree. It was so nice to be able to actually smell the pine, was like being back home eating Christmas dinner. It was the only one I saw in all of Pattaya last year. Hope you & your wife enjoy your first Christmas dinner out together.

    Kind regards,

    WaatWang

  8. Just goes to show there really is nothing important going on in Pattaya. If the rags dropped all the SIN CITY stores they would be back to only publishing on a weekly bases.

Of course, this is a story about yellow journalism needing sensationalistic content to feed on. Nothing else. I am convinced the reality on the ground is not even close to being as bad as reading the local crime press would have you think.

I subscribe to TVs SMS service and have received so many messages about bombs going off in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Issan... I for one am just happy that we don't have that going on here. After living here almost a year now I have never feared for my safety. So I agree with you JingThing, I think the amout of bad news being reported is out of proportion to other places. Sure there are prostitutes drugging tourists, Thai on Thai violence, blah blah blah but I am grateful that I haven't had to worry about possibly being blown apart the next time I need something at Big C.

  9. It's definitely not on every night, but it seems to be a few nights every few weeks.

During the Marathon they had stalls mostly catering to the sports crowd.

When the night market is on, if it's a quiet walk on the beach you're after, why not go to Jomtien beach? Just a suggestion...

  10. I want to thank you all for your help! After checking around my package was found at the new Post Office on Sukumvit Rd, near the Pattaya Floating Market. However I got charged a small fortune (even more than the equivalent of the declared value of the package's contents) because the package was heavy (at least this was the reason given).

Well, at least my package is now home safe and sound and not on its way back to the US. Thanks again!

    Kind regards,

  11. Hello,

I purchased something back on 15 June, but had not received it yet. I looked online with the Confirmation No. and it says "Delivery Attempted" last Thursday at 7:30 PM. However since then there is no activity on my package, and nobody has come to deliver it.

Does anyone know where my package might be (local main post office - ?) that I might inquire about it? It was sent US Postal Service to me in Pattaya.

    Thanks for any help.

  12. I have Sophon cable and so far not seen any Wimbledon coverage only the world cup on Astro Sports and Athletics and other stuff on Eurosport....

I currently have Sophon cable and I'm a tennis fan. The last few big matches - including Roland Garros - were on Sophon cable, and last year Wimbledon was on as well. They broadcast all the matches for two weeks straight, every day. I think the problem right now is that the World Cup is at the same time, and there aren't enough channels to show both. We'll probably have to wait for the US Open to see tennis again on Sophon, although at the very least they'll probably show re-runs of the Wimbledon finals for both men & women during the daytime.

I too went to look at the TV Listings for True and was sad that they have so much coverage of Wimbledon (because I don't have True!). I just decided not to splurge BHT 2,000 to have it installed and pay BHT 2,000 every month for it right now. Good to know the option is there though.

I was at Leo's Blues Bar on Saturday, and when the World Cup match ended around 11 they had Wimbledon on. So in between football games if you're in a bar you can probably ask to watch it if they have True cable. Good luck catching some matches!

  13. Can you say which TRUE service you have ( see link below ) and what were the installation costs, modem cost ( if any ), etc

Is TRUE delivered on a coax TV cable or a regular copper-pair phone line? ( Coax is much more reliable ).

Thanks again in advance for any comments

    Hi SurfRider,

I signed up for the 5MB Premium package so I could get the wireless router. The router was free with a one year contract, but if I want to end the contract early for some reason it's only a B1500 fee, which is the cost of the router. It was advertised as 'free installation' however when they came to install the new line they actually charged us B500. I don't know if this is just something the techs ask for to buy their lunches, but there were about five of them here to do the installation and were very helpful - they even set up the connection on both of our laptops which ToT didn't do, so it was worth it for me. It was installed on a regular phone line.

Really interesting to hear from other people with ToT that it goes down pretty regularly once a week. Mine, too would often go out on Sunday night and be down most of Monday. Same experience with the 1100 line, they respond to that pretty quickly but when it's down on Sunday there are no techs to send out to fix whatever it is they fix. Our ToT was down all day yesterday from Sunday night, and decided to start working again sometime between 6 & 8pm last night. I would have thought all the techs would be done at that hour so maybe it's just some weirdness going on that resolves on its own eventually - who knows? Frustrating, but now happy to have True. :)

    Kind regards,

  14. I have 3 internet connections in Jomtien. One down all down! TIT!

    Hi Arjay,

When you had the three different ones installed did you request a fresh line for each one? I think there is something wrong with the line that my ToT connection came in on. The line for this connection was already installed in the house when I moved here. It worked great for 3 months, then started going out for several hours a week about two months ago.

True was canvassing our neighborhood with a promotion, so I decided to sign up. They installed in a brand new line to my house for this connection. True has been up since it was installed, while ToT still goes out at least once a week for several hours if not overnight. As a matter of fact, it's out right now, went off last night at some point, and I reported the outage this morning. Really happy to have a backup connection now.

SurfRider my home is located about midway between Central Pattaya and Jomtien. I 'telecommute' so it's important to me to have a stable quality connection. The advertised package that I'm paying for is what has been delivered when I do a speed test. As I mentioned since True has been installed, I have not had any problems with the connection (please please please do not let this post jinx me!). Even with VOIP applications it has been rock solid, last week had a 4 hr conference call and not even a single blip. HTH and good luck with your own internet connection.
