Three car (carriage) trains are long outmoded here. New York carries many more passengers but mainline trains there are mostly eight and ten car lengths. Instead of just lining the pockets of the various contract holders, cars should be added to both the MRT and BTS in order to serve the present and potential passenger loads. Before someone tries to correct me, I know that most, if not all, station platforms can only accommodate six train cars. More room = more passengers, passengers squeezed together and having to wait for three or four trains in order to board = more people in their cars and more traffic jams.
And PLEASE, no more of those awful Chinese built trains which on the BTS seem to be constantly trying to test your balance abilities when coming to a stop.

Most Thais are skinny until they marrie.....
Guess you haven't ridden the BTS or MRT lately - they will have to reduce the seven seats across each section to five pretty soon. So many fat kids coming from school they will need special cars for them and lucky if you can see beyond the girl (or boy) in front of you when walking down the footpaths - one butt blocks the view!

RCA?? what RCA? the Radio Corporation of Amerika? in Bangkok?
I'm sorry, I don't live in Bangkok, always those abbreviations, is it the laziness or too much trouble?
Not meaning to be disparaging, this is the ThaiVisa forum and it is assumed members know a bit about Thailand. RCA is a very popular entertainment area for younger folks in Bangkok. I would think most large cities in many countries have similar names for these types of areas.

Yes, it is ridiculous but unfortunately, it is true, mostly because of the age of 80 or over! BTW, if you still know of the company that gave you the quote, please advise - Thanks!

You can get insurance at that age and while hopefully less than your pension it will be costly - for someone in their mid 80's, about US 700 a month
Yes - you can. AND, at this price, the deductible will be US$5000.. with a maximum payout of $2000 dollars. So in reality, you can save the 2000 dollars with three months premiums and have the same coverage. Makes no sense.

And also, watching the video, you can see where the policeman with the helmet cam was out in the road waving his flashlight whilst the motorcycle was still far enough away to stop, had he been driving properly. Clearly the motorcycle drivers fault.

He wasn't in front of it. He was well to one side. The motorbike swerved into him to avoid the idiot with the camera who was standing directly in his way, as I pointed out. It's quite clear on the video.
Judging by the camera angles, this appears to be a type of helmet camera that another policeman was wearing. You can see in the video, that the wearer was using his flashlight to stop the oncoming motorcycle who then veered into the second policeman.
As for those TVB members complaining about leaving the others on the side of the road, if it was your comrade, family or whatever, that was struck down like that, I am sure you would attend to those closest to you first. Drunk drivers need to be punished severely, but then the jails here would be overflowing more than they already are.

I suspect it was staged,
1. Not one of the remaining "students" moved a muscle
2. In a brief moment a couple of the "students" looked older than elementry or HS age.
3. The person attempting to intervene was not wearing a student uniform, seemed a co worker.
4. At the end I saw an apparent adult male that was present the entire time walk right by the camera to the front of the classroom, (stage).
You might have a point, Grumpy - I just sent this to a Thai friend of mine who is a teacher and he thinks it is not in Thailand. It does look a bit fishy when the students are just sitting there watching with no seeming reactions.

Travel insurance (or, for longer term residents, healht insurance) is essential.
And when you get into the 8th or 9th decade of your life here in Thailand, pray tell where you can get health insurance that will not cost you your monthly pension (or more)!

Unfortunately, you sound like Trump with his remarks to the mother of the US serviceman that got killed!
IMHO people that are genuinely trying to better things should be lauded and not with an "it serves you right"' thought.

Been using Grab Taxi for several years now and never a problem, always courteous and if they get stuck in a traffic jam on the way to pick you up, they will call and ask if you want them to keep coming or cancel because of the delay.
Trying to get a taxi on Silom or Suriwongse during the evening without a rip-off price is almost impossible ,so I wander off to RAMA IV where I seldom have problems.
Kudos to the policeman - need more like him!!

Heavy wind gusts here in Saphan Kwai area since around 0230 this morning - no rain.

I guess it is not permitted to tell us what the eight areas mentioned in the original article, are.

so
Actually, it does not show what precipitated the whole thing - it looks as though the Aussie's windows had some damage, which may have caused him to get his weapon from the back of his car. Doubt anyone has film of the original incident and there will be a lot of 'he said - he said' until it is all sorted out. I still stand by my original statement that the Thai should have been in cuffs immediately after assaulting the man in front of the policeman. Then it could all be sorted out somehow - hopefully.
-
Most places, the Thai assaulted the other man with what is called a sucker punch, right in front of the policeman. In any other country, the Thai would have been arrested and put in manacles immediately - but- easier for police to have them settle it privately.

Of course ease off the throttle downhill in a manual (becoming rare), though in automatics that's useless unless the transmission has a rear as well as a front pump, also becoming rare. Costs...
Stationary in gear with clutch in wears the clutch release bearing, so neutral with clutch out's better. Riding the clutch on an incline is a sin.
(Sorry, this used to be my profession - transmission & suspension design).
Agree with you on this, Jack. Also, when I first started driving an intercity bus in the US some 60 years ago, we had a driver that was only about 5 foot 1 inch tall and could hardly reach the foot pedals, resulting in what someone here has referred to as 'modulating the throttle'. He was otherwise an excellent driver, however, my boss used to comment that if you were on his bus and you placed your hand properly, you could have a 'happy ending' with no effort on your own part. Most Thai taxi drivers can fulfill those wishes - save money!

Right on cue we see more Trump bashing. Like Pavlov's dog, Trump gets blamed for everything under the sun.
He gives a million dollars of his own money to Houston and what is his thanks?
That's all?
Un believable...
I won't believe that Trump gave anything of his own until I see a copy of the check, paid and endorsed by the bank to the receiving charity. And then it will probably be Trump's own charity!
People are people everywhere no matter their origin so bashing one or another here is just a way to up one's posts!

Saw something similar in NJ some years back. Father was walking with his kid, let the kid pee on the side of a car, then walked into the apartment building right next door. Hmm - maybe a hated neighbor???

Just hope they don't use the color ink on the sample - using black ink, it will be hard enough to read the small print

He wasn't riding like a dick, wasn't going fast, just filtering through traffic - what everyone does on bikes here.
Just like most of the d--k head motorcycle drivers here do. Empty brains!
Then punching and, of course, kicking the man when he was down. Surprised he didn't wait for his gang to show up, then they could all kick the man while he was down - favorite hobby here!

Hmmm.! Is that why the drivers of the BTS lines manage to slam the doors of their trains whilst people are halfway across the platform from a connecting train at Siam Station. IMHO the drivers actually enjoy watching everyone rushing to their half empty train, slamming the doors and then have to wait for the next train. And please do not tell me the fifteen seconds they might have to delay would really affect anything. Siam is the only connecting point and if it does affect the operating system, then the schedules are not properly set up. During rush hours I can understand them doing this, but not in off hours as happened again to me at 12:28 PM this afternoon.
BTW, spent 55 years in transportation so I do have a bit of a grasp on these things.

Don't see anything on the immigration site about reporting via the internet anymore
Also, a bit confusing: I notice that under 'Offices Accepting Notifications' is listed the
Chamchuri Square Building downtown. I thought this office was only for WP and
associated. It sure would be easier than going all the way to the Gov't complex since
I forgot to mail in time. (Still have 8 days so no problem).

One Stop Center for Visa and Work Permits located at Chamchuri Square Buliding , Floor 18, Phayathai Rd. Phatumwan, Bangkok (Only the specific law)
Services are provided only to foreigners who have already submitted an application for temporary stay in the kingdom ofthailand."
Can anyone clarify? Thanks
5Thanks, Joe, appreciate that.

I believe not. The issue here is related to the fact that it is a marine national park.
The Asians, in this case a Korean, have a better understanding of ways to resolve issues than foreigners from more rule-based societies. So, it is less likely there will be any book-throwing, more likely some grovelling and paying.
Emphasis on the 'paying'.
