  1. My wife and I are planning to go to Thailand late September. Our nationalities are Norwegian and Indonesian.
We are planning to buy roundtrip tickets from Vancouver to Chiang Mai via Hong Kong, and will both apply for a single entry visa which allows us two months plus the possibility of a one month extension. After our stay in Thailand, we will go to Bali for two weeks, then come back to Thailand for a few days before we fly back to Vancouver from Chiang Mai via Hong-Kong. Should there be any issue in being permitted the visa on arrival when we get back from Bali (we are both of eligible nationalities) given that we two weeks earlier left after a stay of approximately 2 months? I believe not, but wanted to check as I understand that immigration has gotten more strict recently and that back-on-back visas is no longer permitted.
My passport also shows that I stayed in Thailand almost continuously from the 30th of April 2013 to the 30th of October 2013 (on a triple entry tourist visa) and that I then stayed almost continuously in Indonesia for two years after that. Should this have any bearing whatsoever on the above?

    Any input appreciated.

  2. I have some used batteries and a few small electronic devices which I would like to get rid of. I prefer not to throw it in the garbage as it is not good for the environment. In many european countries they have stations where such things can be left, and it will be taken care of in a more environmentally friendly manner. Is there any place in CM where such items can be left?

  3. I am looking for beginners 1on1 lessons in muay thai or other forms of martial arts. I want to give it a try, with the intention of letting off some steam and perhaps learning some basic self-defense. I live near Kad Suan Kaew (central shopping mall), so the location should be somewhere I can reach with a song thaew without too much problem. The instructor should be able to speak a minimum level of English. The price should be affordable. Can anyone recommend me a school?

  4. What is generally the cheapest international flight (roundtrip) from CM? Each 3 months I need to re-enter the country, so I am just looking for a cheap direct-flight option. In the past I did the visa run with mini van, but as they often drive into the opposite lane on occasions where they cannot possibly know if they will be facing oncoming traffic or not, I find it too risky. That kind of driving is simply too stupid for me to accept.

The cheapest price for CM KL roundtrip that I have come across, is around 4.700. But it is hard to find, usually it is more like 7-8.000 baht. I assume there must be cheaper options for other destinations?

  5. I previously bought at Baan Suan Pak store. But now they only sell organic pork, no chicken or anything else.

I know that at Rimping near the airport, they sell some grassfed beefs from New Zealand, and they sell some whole organic local chicken (including its feet with nails, its head etc). This seems a bit overkill for me to handle - I am not used to buy the whole animal, and it might also be a bit too much work cooking it and separating the meat from the bones after cooking, I prefer fillets.

I am aware of Hamza Farm, having an outlet near Chiang Mai Land, but have not been there. They do sell fillet of goat and some other animals, right?

Are there any other good sources for organic meat in CM at the moment, especially for fillets?

  6. can anyone recommend a travel agency in CM who can get me a tourist visa for Laos? As I will travel soon it should not take more than 2-3 days. What would typically be the total price? I understood that it is also an option to get a tourist visa in Laos after arrival at the airport. I believe this costs 1.500 baht. Any input regarding which option is preferable?

  7. PP takes about 4 days and most travel agents do not even want to chance using them from what I have seen reported as they never know how long it will take and customers get very upset when they do not get there passport back when expected.

Ok, so 4 days... Given my prior visas, do you think I would have any problem getting a new Tourist Visa in PP, if using an agent?

  8. I have stayed in thailand (most of the time) for slightly over a year, first on a triple entry tourist visa, then I did a border run and got two more weeks, then I had a 3 month educational visa when doing a course, and now I am on another tourist visa, soon to expire.

Thus, I had two tourist visas in my passport last year (but one was triple entry, issued the year prior)

I now need to get a new tourist visa. There was a little bit hassle in Vientiana when I got my previous tourist visa. I am thinking Phom Penh could be an option, using a travel agent service. Is it true that then it will only take one day to obtain the visa? Will the travel agent need anything such as bank statement, confirmed hotel booking in Thailand, Flight ticket out of Thailand etc? Or can all that be bypassed when using a travel agent?

Any other options that are recommendable?

  9. Why are you limiting yourself to Chiang Mai ??

Because I live in Chiang Mai and it is easier to follow up on the work if I can meet the designer in person as the work progresses.

Well Ok I was just trying to help you out wai.gif and I live in Chiang Mai also but would not waste my time when there is a perfectly easier way than looking for a needle in a haystack (AS YOU ARE FINDING OUT) and then when you do find someone you have to go and meet them and realize the communication thing is a real issue and you find yourself starting all over again.

Good luck with that, and while you are looking for worker in Chiang Mai, you could have 50 SUPERB graphic designers fighting over your job and the the work could of already been completed communicating using Skype, email, etc you certainly don't have to meet anyone in person.

But hey good luck with your search, like i was saying just trying to help

    DK

Maybe you are right. I´ll send you a pm

  10. There are many printing companies in Chiang Mai who have designers working for them, and many art galleries etc.

However, in case of the former, I can imagine they will often treat the work as a routine job.

What are the best ways to find designers with an artistic vision, who speak a decent level of English, and who are familiar with the technicalities of preparing print ready materials? It could be both digital drawing and traditional art.

I visited a few printing companies, without much success. Now I am thinking of visiting some art galleries. Any recommendations?

Any general tips on how to find good graphic designers who speak decent english, have artistic vision and are reasonably priced?

  11. I am looking for a good company in Bangkok to print a music album (using the replication method), with 24 page booklet. Expected order would be 2.000 copies. Can anyone recommend a company offering high quality at competitive prices?

Before the actual printing, making the artwork for the booklet still needs to be done. I believe many such companies also have designers available. However, the music is progressive death metal so the designer should be able to think in new and creative ways, it would not be a standard job.

  12. I have written one piano-based song (containing some fairly fast runs) and a few piano parts for another song, both in midi. I am not a pianist and I do not know how to edit the midi files in order to make it sound more organic and natural - the way it would sound if played by a human. I am looking for someone to either edit the files using midi software, or to learn the songs/parts and record them using a midi keyboard. The tracks will be included on my upcoming progressive death metal cd.

If you stay in or around Chiang Mai, that would be the best, as then I could be physically present when you do the work.

Send me PM if you are interested or if you know anyone who can do this.

    Payment to be negotiated.

  13. I need a designer to create the full artwork for the second release of my progressive death metal band Okular. The band is based in Norway, but I am now staying in Chiang Mai. Preferably, the designer is from Chiang Mai or the surrounding area, so that we can easily meet physically to discuss the work as it progresses. (but do not hesitate to contact me if you live elsewhere)

Our debut album, "Probiotic", became "album of the month" (the communal review with highest average score) in the Norwegian Scream Magazine, and has received 9.5/10 on four webzines.

    The job:

24 page booklet, including one individual illustration for each of the 13 songs.

    Doublesided inlay card and cd-print.

It is very much preferable that you can make print-ready files and have prior experience making artwork for cds.

I have written a description in English for all the artwork, including a page by page description for the booklet. You should have a decent understanding of the English language so that you can easily get a sense of what I have in mind.

Deadline for the work would be around mid-July.

What kind of design style am I looking for?

This is flexible, it could be digital drawing with some photomanipulation, traditional painting or a combination of both. What I do not want is "cartoonish" styles, or very abstract styles.

The lyrical concepts are philosophical yet using "down to earth"-imagery. People with interest in the interface between cutting edge psychology and spirituality, or people who live their lives in an "artistic" way, might feel resonance with the themes. The concepts are provocative but beauty is as much emphasised as ugliness. A central theme is the will to live an authentic life, despite all the internal and external conformity, deceit and falseness. White will be a dominant color throughout the artwork.

If you are interested in contributing your talent to an album which will showcase technical, innovative metal, with unusual design concepts, please send me a personal message with your email and some info about yourself and your previous works.

    Fee is to be negotiated.

  14. Dont over-think this. Play out your tourist visa until it is finished (optionally, you can do one extension for 30 days after your last entry....60 days + 30 days extension on day 59 or 60 for 1900 baht). During your last entry, then start lining up options for either another tourist visa or ed or whatever visa. Take it one visa at a time..

The only reason I was thinking to get the educational visa now, rather than using the last entry of my triple entry tourist visa, is because I perhaps cannot get an educational visa later. In early april I will be doing a course which makes me elligible for educational visa. There might however be ways to get educational visa later, but this is a definitive chance. So that´s why I though maybe it would be good now, so I do for sure have one educational visa inbetween two tourist visas.

  15. What you do is wait for your current visa to finish, then either get another tourist visa or non-imm visa. But it is good that you are doing research early to find out the basic requirements. Start buckling down after you do your last extension of tourist visa.

Thanks for reply. I am thinking to stay in Thailand for the next few years, and eventually hopefully find some better visa option than Tourist Visa - I believe in example that by doing some work (a few hours) once a week at a university (in Chiang Mai where I stay), one can get a certain kind of visa on that basis. But for now, I will continue with Tourist visa a little longer.

I wonder if there is a limit to how many tourist visas one can have in the passport in a row - especially when staying in Thailand almost continously for many months, even a few years. Would I be better off to get the Educational visa for the course in the beginning of april, rather than using the last entry on my tourist visa? Just for the reason that when I get more tourist visas after the course, to continue my stay, maybe it would be beneficial in the long run that I do not only have old tourist visas in the passport, but also an educational visa?
